.net - Pass A String Variable Data From Form2 To Form1?

Nov 17, 2010

It's a program that reads student data from a text file and displys it in a listbox(Form1). From there on you can add a new student to the textfile by clicking on "Add" button that shows another form(Form2) and you input the new student data into the appropriate text boxes. Afterwards you can press "Add" button(Form2), but the Add Student(Form2) window comes up again with all the inputted data gone, and if I place the new student info into the text boxes again and click "Add", the program jumps back to the Form1 and a message box suppose to say what was added to the textfile, but nothing was added except for empty listbox items.

VS 2008 Passing Variable From Form1 To Form3 Via Form2?

Jan 10, 2010

IThere's a button on the toolstip that's always enabled for form2 so they are always able to search the database. When a user is on form1 and selects the link button. They are taken to form2 to select criteria to search. On Form3 they choose 1 item in the grid andcan select the Link It button on the form to link the 2 selected grid items (form1 and form3). Since form2 and form3 are available at anytime.my problem is knowing when the Link button on form1 has been chosen and after a successful link to not allow anymore links. Technically, they could pull form2 up via the toolstrip or an existing form2 window and Link as long as Form1 is on the screen but I do not want this. It's as though I need a global variable to set to True/False.

Forms :: Set A Boolean Variable To True?

Aug 18, 2010

I am trying to up a private sub routing based on the Text Changed Event for a listbox, inside of the event, I want to set a boolean variable to true. I have it set up, but for some reason it is not getting called.

Basically what I am doing is the user is being prompted to enter data in an input box. I am taking the data that is entered on the input box and populating it in a list box. I want to know if the text in the listbox has been changed, hence changing the blnIsChanged = True

Can I use text changed with a listbox???

Skip Form1 If Readvalue = True

Aug 12, 2011

Bin working on this for like 2 hours now and still don't get it proper to work.

I think its a small thing but I can't see it.

I got a project with 2 forms. Form1 is a register me form, so it shows a form with lets say a OK button. if you click the OK button it writes the figure lets say 989 in the register.

After that is done it opens Form2 and you can do your thing.

That part works.

after you click OK it shows form2 and hides form1.

Using Variables From Form1.vb To Form2.vb?

I thought using a Module would work but I can't get the function on the Module to "see" the formula and/or variables that I need on Form1.vb. I am using VB 2005.

Possible To Copy Form2 Three Times On Form1 With Different Variables In Text Boxes?

Oct 18, 2009

I recently bought a barcode scanner for God knows what reason, just to play around and now it seems that its easy to sort out everything at house with it (e.g. Disc Collection). So I decided that I need a special program for it to get sorted with the collection. I am new to Visual Basic, but used to do programs with Java 6 years ago, but it doesn't seem to be any similar to each other. Basically I have a Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 and here is what I want to do:I have Form1 which contains of a textbox and a button (which will be Enter further), a textbox for total amount spent (which has to be calculated from Form2 and a nice background. I also have a Form2 in the same project, which contains 3 textboxes (Title, Price and the barcode numbers)So my problems are: As I said there are just 3 textboxes in Form2. Is it possible to copy Form2 three times on Form1 with different variables in text boxes? For example Form2 1st copy will have one Title in textbox, Form2 2nd copy will have another Title in textbox and etc. The Titles are in excel (.xls) file. That is a problem further, but my problem for now is how to make barcode scanner working. The barcode scanner basically reads barcode and inputs numbers in a textfield and automatically presses enter. As I am new, I do not know how to make this work. When I launch the program the textbox has to be selected rightaway, so that I do not have to use mouse. As it is selected I read the barcode and the numbers are in the textbox right away and Enter key is pressed (but I did not assign OK button with a Enter key and I cannot output anything now). So how do I assign the button with Enter key and the textbox? Now as the button is pressed (OR ENTER KEY is pressed) The text in the textbox has to be selected again (so that I can input a new barcode) and Form2 has to be called on a certain place of the screen (e.g. 200x100px is the starting location).

Now when the Form2 was called it read the data from Excel spreadsheet and now the textfield in Form1 is ready to input new barcode. As new barcode was read the same situation is happening, but now the Form2 is copied into a new place with new parameters (e.g. 300x100px is the starting point).Same for the third time, but on 400x100px.For the fourth time the Form2 is not copied again. However the parameters of the third copy are getting the new data. Parameters of the third one are going to the second copy, second copy to the first one and the first one is stored in a text file or somewhere else to use further. (I wanted to use up and down buttons to search for what I have scanned)

Variable Naming Conventions To Illustrate Variable Type And Where Variables Are Declared

Aug 24, 2009

I am looking for a good resource on variable naming conventions to illustrate variable type and where variables are declared. So I will have public variables, Private variables, private or local variables. I also may want to declare variables with the same name in different class code (i.e. in the code behind different forms). I am assuming good coding would dicatate a prefix for declaration location.

VS 2010 How To Prevent Fields Being Reset In Form1 & Form2 On Program Close

Nov 18, 2011

I am Matthew and I'm extremely new to coding and any sort of scripting language; yet I am highly interested in programming and want to learn lots about this subject. So to start myself off I am trying to create some applications which I could use in day-to-day life to just basically make life easier. So the first program I am trying to make I am already confused and not sure what the heck I have to do in order to get it functioning, I've looked on lots of videos on you tube for tutorials and they have all done a great job but some videos just don't answer my questions. When I click a button and "Form2.Show()" appears, how can I make it so that when I type text in a list box in form2, it doesn't disappear when I close it? Then once I have known done that, how can I make it so I can choose a random string of text in the list box on form2 to show up on the click of a button on form1? Then a final question is, How do I prevent fields being reset in form1 & form2 on program close? Also, is it ok for me to make a thread asking 1 simple question? or do I have to ask a handful each time to save threads or something?

Program Function - Says, "The Type For Variable [variable] Will Not Be Inferred Because It Is Bound To A Field

May 18, 2012

Public Class Form1
Dim x, c, number(0 To 19) As Integer
Dim s As Integer

[CODE]...

The variables in the brackets [example] do not actually have brackets in them in the original code. These are where the issues are. For both variables, it says, "The type for variable [variable] will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of [variable], or use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.[variable]' or 'MyBase.[variable]')." Now, I'm not entirely sure if this is a stupid question or not, as I'm used to VB '98 because that's what we use in my programming class at High School. let me know why this won't work.

-Note: The intention of this program is to continually loop the generation of numbers for this list until I tell it to stop. Button1 ends the program, Button2 generates the list one time only, Button3 is supposed to loop the generation of the list, and Button4 is supposed to end the loop, but not the program.

How To Make A Statement Run If All Conditions Are True From Multiple Condition Or If Statements

Mar 22, 2011

I have a form that contains multiple conditional or if statements on several defferent for controls.

Example: Radio Buttons, TextBoxes and CheckBoxes.

I am intending to create an order form(demo) where the user can select multiple products.

I have a default order number that changes by one everytime an order is successful.

An order is only successful if all the information on the form is entered correctly.

My question is where do I insert the code for the order number?

Basically for the order number I have a counter that count by increment of one if an order is successful.

Meaning when the user hit place order, and all the infromation is right, then the order numer goes to 1 from zero.

Where do I add the condition for the order number since all the fields must first be completed.

Do I have to create a whole line of if else statements?

Coin Toss Program - True For Heads And False For Tails

Jan 24, 2011

I've gotten this 75% completed but am now stuck on 2 separate, but seemingly "simple" fixes. I've written a coin tossing program that is supposed to give a "True" answer for heads and a "False" answer for tails as well as keep a running calculation of how many times heads and tails are shown. Additionally, there needs to be a picture that shows what side comes up. Right now, I have the "True/False" answers coming up correctly, but without any images. I've also verified that the images are in the Resource folder as well as verified that the "True/False" are correct by comparing it with the results in the heads and tails label that they show up in. I've tried to display an image(s) by embedding it as a resource in a project but it does not show up. The second problem is that the results in the labels show up as 1 & 0s, not a running tally as it should be.

Here's the code that I have:
Public Class Form1
Dim randomObject As New Random()
Private Sub tossButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tossButton.Click
Dim headscount As Integer
[Code] .....

I have also tested taking out the +1 on the If/EndIf statement, which then returns only 0's in the boxes with the "True/False" still working as it should.

Dereferencing Objects - Make CopiedCollection A True Copy (not A Reference) To The Listbox1.Items Collection?

Jun 30, 2010

Okay I've been wondering about this for a while now, but whenever you assign variable values to objects they tend to just become references to the original object

For example:

Dim copiedCollection As ListBox.ObjectCollection = ListBox1.Items
For Each L As String In copiedCollection
If L = "Goodbye" Then ListBox1.Items.Remove(L)
Next

As soon as it encounters the string "Goodbye" and removes the item from the listbox, the program will throw an error saying the the collection (copiedCollection) has been modified. How can I make copiedCollection a true copy (not a reference) to the Listbox1.Items collection?
