I am trying to query a MSI to get the ProductCode from the MSI so I can later populate a script with the proper ProductCode.During debugging it "looks" like the database is open for read, however if I look at the oDB object I see this "Error = No further information on this object could be discovered" When it tries to do the OpenView on the SQL statement it throws an exception "OpenView, Sql" I believe that is because the MSI really isn't open for read?I have added the reference to the Microsoft Windows Installer Object Library version 1.0.0.0
Here is the code: (I pass the fully qualified path + filename of the msi)
Private Sub GetMsiProperty(ByVal sMSIFilePath As String)
Const sReadMSIDataBaseErrorStr As String = "ERROR: Could not read MSI database!"
Const msiOpenDatabaseModeReadOnly = 0
I'm using SQLserver 2008 and I have a below mentioned Query working successfully, now my requirement is I want to execute the same code in vb.net (Visual Studio 2010) it is a update Table command so how to convert and run in vb.net
What I am trying to do basically is open an access query in a datagrid view and then be able to make changes to the datagrid and then save it back to the database. When I try to save:
I have some code which scans my Database for the table names and displays them in a listbox (ListBox1). Later on when the user selects the desired option(Table) in the listbox the code gets the text which the user has selected at loads that table into a Datatable.
DataDataTableAdapter = New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM " & ListBox1.Text, DataBaseConnection) However I recieve "Syntax error in from clause"
how do i simply query the database and return values to my textboxes etc? all i can fiqure out is the default views but that is not what im after, also how to add data as well (lets say i have a text box with data and i wish to add it to the database)im sure its simple but i cant figure it out, in vba i just used the current sheets or tables but this is beyond me. i will admit it.
I have a database in access and one of the fields is 'Is Quick'. I have a query that filters all of these out. How would I get the data from that query in Visual Studio 2010 (Express). VB code please.
I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets. Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.
I'm creating a database backup function into by program which will allow the user to locally backup a database to the selected folder. How do I go about doing this? I realise you cant copy an open database, but I cant think of any other way to do it.
I am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox
sql =
"Select * FROM Allview WHERE Info Like" & "*" & CStr(TextBox1.Text) & "*" The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned. The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.

Okay so here's the question how do I get the links that open in a new window to open in my main webbrowser control. The above code does some, but it's not fool proof.
I'm using Visual Basic Express 2010 and SQL Express 2008 in Windows XP. At first I couldn't add a datasource (the .mdf file for the database) because of a "Operating system error 32" which I seemed to have resolved by giving myself full permissions for .mdf file (by right clicking on the file and going into properties and then Security) and restarting the SQL SERVER (SQLEXPRESS) service. The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.
O/S WIndows 7 SQL Server : SQL Express 2008 R2 VB 2010 Express
SQL Server is located on the workstation so the code and the DB are on the same PC
Created a DB connection using the wizard. Tried this with Windows authentication and SQL authentication using sa
Created a Dataset and dragged the grid onto the form1.vb.
In SQL Sertver Management Studio I can update update tables using the same credentials as in the VB connection string
WHen I try to update a record in the VB Dataset it returns the error cannot update database because it is read-only
I have checked the files and folder attributes in SQL Data folder. Nothing is set to read only
I have checked SQL Server Database > Properties > Option > State > Databse Read only = false
I don't what I'm doing wrong here but I cannot get VB to update data via the dataset.
Inotice in SQL Server that the DBname now includes the full path "C:PROGRAM FILESMICROSOFT SQL SERVERMSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLDATAPAYABLES.MDF" and not just the DB name. Is this becuase VB Express requires you to point to the physical DB file?
[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?

I'm having a bit of a problem populating a collections class with the values from the database. Everytime I loop through a record in the WHILE DR.READ loop, the last record over writes all the other items in the collection. My returnVal collections has several of the same items despite the loop showing each individual record being added into returnVal.
I have loaded my database with one table under "Data Connections" in the "Server Explorer" pane. What is the standard / best-practices way to handle a simple query in a VB ASPX page?
My left <div> would be a set of form elements to filter rows, and when the button is clicked, the main <div> would show the columns I want for the rows returned.
Note: Answers in C# are okay too, I'll just translate.
I have connected a database query that I made using MS Access 2007 to my form in VB 2008. I know how to pull the fields onto the form and get the information to display on the form by clicking the binding navigator at the top of the form. My question is that is there a way that I could input the ID number in a textbox and click a button to display the rest of the field in some more textboxes
i have a table named item_details.i have some field named item_id,item_name,quantity,supplier_name etc.i want to see all details as per the item_id given in a textbox.i also want to see details as per the item_name is given.i can use 2 forms to view this type of query..one for item_id..and other to view from item_name.but..i want to use tabcontrol..in 1 tab i want go give the item_name...and want to get the details.and other tab i want to give the item_id...and want to get the details....and whenever i gave wrong information.an error message will be shown.
Is there any way to retrive data from Database with out writing any sql query . I mean i want to read data into my label fileds with out writing any query in sqlcommand. me how can i do this in c# or vb.netUpdate
PROBLEM: I want to only show specific database records based on serveral combo-box inputs from a user. I'm looking to query an Access database from within a form I've created for viewing simple Jpegs of CAD files and pointcloud data. I've never worked with table adapters, SQL statements, or much in the way of databases before and I'm lost.
Do I add a new query and do what I want from a configuration wizard somehow? That method gave me a toolstrip button with no combo-box.Should the combo-box be bound to the table or should it stand alone? Can this be done without the use of a wizard (purely in an event) I've been told what I'm looking to do is rather simple, I'm just unable to find syntax that has worked for me.
I have created a bookshop website with database, I need a search engine that will search the database records and present the user with results according to the keyword.I have created the page with the text search box and search button.[code]
i created an insert query to add data to my table.i am using SQL CE database. When i run it and insert it is showing an error which as follows.
[Code]....
I have searched everywhere to find a solution for this. I am a beginner and in a tutorial i have seen they did it with access DB without any problems. i did the same but for SQL CE DB, i probably did something wrong or missed some steps.
I have the code below, what i have is three volumes called vol2 vol 3 and QRH (these are parent nodes in a treeview), these nodes are named in my database in a volume column 2,3 and 4 respectively. what i want to do is run a query that populates a treeview with another column depending on which parent node is clicked.
A drawing Volume Parent node name (in treeview) child node 2 vol2 flightpath 3 vol3 takeoff 4 QRH landing 2 vol2 data
and there are more than one child node that has volume 2,3 or 4 what i want is if vol2 is clicked this is oppened
vol2 ---Flightpath ---Data etc etc
below is the code i am working on:
If tvwFCOM.SelectedNode.Text = "vol2" Then Dim Volume As String = "2" And Query = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("Select Title From " & cmbFamily.Text & " _Chapters Where Volume = '" & Volume & "'", AccessConn) End If
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room?
I am having a problem with the project I am working on. The project will have more than one query; however, I cannot get the simple one to work yet. I have a form with two text boxes and a button. I also have an Access database that I want to be able to connect and query to.
The database will have fields such as student name, address, test1 and test2. I want the form to allow a user to put in scores for test1 and test2 in TextBox1 and TextBox2, then query the database to say
