SQL Query Failing A DataTable?

Aug 19, 2009

I have a function (GetData) that parses a SQL string, makes a connection to a SQL Server and dumps the result to a DataTable. It works perfectly on a series of SQL calls I have. I have new query I have added and now the function balks at the adapter.Fill(table) call. I do not understand why the call fails. The SQL portion works fine when run directly against the SQL database (Management Studio). I am thinking the fuctions not capable of dealing with the subquery somehow, just not sure why.

Bindingsource4.DataSource = GetData("SELECT QTY,ITEM_NUMBER,DESCRIPTION,(Select STATUS_TEXT From ITEM_STATUS_LIST Where STATUS_VALUE = Line_Items.Status) FROM(LINE_ITEMS) JOIN PURCHASE_ORDERS ON

Show Valid Com Ports And Display Error If User Tries To Open Invalid Com Port?

I was wondering if its possible for VB to display all available COM ports that are open. he reason that I ask this is because this program will be run on various computers where the COM port will not always be the same. I have a text box now that the user can choose which com number he/she wants but if the wrong one is entered, the program crashes rather than displaying an error message. It would also be nice for the system to show which available com numbers there are

Sql - Update Query Syntax Error In Asp.net Application?

Jul 14, 2011

process is user selects a gridview item it redirects them to the update page and using a datareader, fills the text boxes and check boxes based on the id passed in the url the user can then make their changes to the text boxes/ check boxes and then press the update button which runs the update query. what i have found is happening is that although a user might change the text, when they submit the changes, the update query is still using whatever was loaded into that text box by the data reader on the page load. Here is the code below:

Protected Sub SubmitBTN_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles UpdateBTN.Click

Updatable Query Error When Trying To Update Excel?

Apr 9, 2012

I know I've banged heads with this error before, but before the reason was because of my IMEX setting. This is the reason why I made two connections to the spreadsheet, one that uses IMEX=1 for the SELECT query and one with that option removed for the UPDATE / INSERT queries. So now I'm stumped why this is breaking in the following [code].....

Is there an issue with trying to open the same spreadsheet with two connections (I thought I had done this before)? Or some other issue that is causing this error to be thrown? BTW, I'm using this in a vb.net program so I don't think the issue is related to the security issues that asp users usually face with this error... On the other hand, I'm also on Win 7 and I know that its security is much tighter than on XP where I've used other programs that also update an Excel spreadsheet. I wouldn't think so, but would I have to run this in administrator mode in order to update the spreadsheet?

Asp.net - Crystal Reports Viewer: Failed To Open The Connection Error

Jun 19, 2012

Currently I'm working on a piece of code that involves using the Crystal Reports Viewer to export .RPT files to PDF. My problem is that the code works on literally everything except the website I'm planning to eventually put it on.

When placed on the website it throws back the error "Failed to open the connection." which I believe is connected to the SQL Server connection that's formed in order to read data for the report itself.

The code itself is solid and works when used in a separate console application I built to test it whether said code is run on my local machine or on the server itself. It even runs when I test the website in Visual Studio's virtual host.

I've narrowed it down to being some sort of permissions issue, but I am not knowledgeable enough in the various permissions settings to figure out which ones specifically apply to this situation. It's worth mentioning that other pages on the website are directly connecting to the same database, but they are doing so directly through Linq instead of going through the Crystal Report Viewer.

So does anybody know which settings I need to modify in order to fix the connection error. An added note: One of the other suggestions is to make sure there's an ODBC DNS in place that matches the one being used by the code. I have created such a DNS already.

SQL Update Query Returns Error Message Saying Not All The Parameters Have Been Set?

Jul 8, 2010

I'm trying to update an Access database by using an OLE connection, retrieving the information from textboxes where the user enters the new information. All the fields in my Access table are required fields, so I have validated that some info is entered in each one of the textboxes and that is the correct data type. But when I run the update query I get an error message saying something like values haven't been entered for some required parameters (my Visual Studio is the Spanish version, so I can't give the exact error message in English). The bit of code where the error occurs is inside the procedure called by my "Ok" button:

Dim campo1, campo2, campo3, campo4, campo5 As String
Dim campo6, campo7, campo8 As Double
Dim campo9, campo10 As Integer

[code]....

(I didn't post the whole code inside the procedure, but of course I'm creating the connection and everything)

The table has 10 fields, and the data is read from the textboxes and stored in variables (campo1, campo2, campo3, etc.), which I'm then using in the "set" query command.

"id" is the first field from the selected row in the datagrid, which I'm sending as a parameter to the procedure called by the "OK" button. The error message shows at runtime, so I'm guessing it's something in the query. Am I writing it correctly?

VS 2008 Recursion Failing With Command/DataReader Objects Already Open

Jun 26, 2009

I'm trying to put together a quick example for another thread about treeviews, and I'm getting a problem when I have a recursive routine, getting the message.

Quote:

There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first.

I'm a tad confused as I am explicitly creating a new command every time through the loop, so I'm not sure (unless its something ADO is doing behind the scenes) how the datareaders higher up the tree are interfering.

Here's my code :

Private Sub SetupChildren(ByVal ParentID As Integer, ByRef ParentNode As TreeNode)
Dim MyCommand As New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Groups WHERE ParentGroup=@ParentGroup", m_myConnection)

[Code]...

Obviously I could close the data reader down before calling the next level of recursion but it would prevent the code continuing the loop at the current level when it had finished processing children.

Excel DataSet Error: GetOleDbSchema Table Require An Open And Available Connection

Jun 29, 2011

I'm creating a tool that will query Excel and intialize the default settings for the site's Cad Software.I want 2-20 users to be able to simultaneously query excel. Currently I have the spreadsheet open on one computer and the other test machine gives me this error.

GetOleDbSchema Table Require an open and available connection. The connections state is closed.

I could use some help on the code design. Should I use Datareader instead....Does that have less permissions issues? Or do I need to open up the oledbconnection in a different manner?

Private Const cPrinterData = "PrinterData"
Private Const cSupportData = "SupportData"
