Visual Studio 2008 - Show Alert Using Tooltip
Mar 24, 2011I have a small application in which I need to show alerts if a particular condition is met. I have an mdi form and several child forms. Now the best way to show an alert is to show a tooltip on the right side corner of my mdi form. Though this works, but the problem is I want user to close the tooltip once he has read. Now the tooltip that vb.net provide does not support click events. If I give a long time duration the tooltip would be open all the time and if I give a short duration then it will close quickly. What can I do ?

Apr 16, 2009I have a solution made up of several projects. Everything is properly referenced, the solution builds and runs. Now, when "view class diagram" for this class, it doesn't show any fields. It shows "dmxProgram" as a property, but it doesn't show any of the non-property private fields. Therefore I can't add associations to my class diagram for those fields that do not appear.

Jan 11, 2011Whenever I create a table adpater the wizard does not create and update command. It creates Select Insert and Delete but no Update command. I have a primary key in the data and have completely deleted my dataset and created connection and table adtaer from scratch with still no update command wizard says it will create it but does not.

.net - Interface Inheritance: Method Does Not Show Up
Feb 15, 2010I've got an interface inheritance issue that has been vexing me for some time. It doesn't seem to make any sense, and I can only conclude that I'm missing something fundamental.
Overview The code below is from part of a fluent interface for our ORM tool. It provides a SQL-like syntax for pulling data from the database. You don't have to completely grok all the interrelations to understand the problem -- the real issue is the EndClause method.
The EndClause Issue There's a method called EndClause that doesn't show up in one expected spot -- IOrderQueryRoot. As far as I know, it should show up because it inherits from two different interfaces that both have a method called EndClause, but when I consume an object that implements IOrderQueryRoot, EndClause does not pop up in intellisense.
There are some more implementation details below.First though, if you look at IOrderQueryRoot (which contains EndClause), you can see that it inherits IHasOrderLogicalOperators, and also IHasOrderFields (which also contains EndClause).

At this point, the interface is working fine -- if I were to remove this method, VS would scream that I have to implement both EndClause methods. The problem is one level down, when the "end developer" is trying to actually write code against the interface.

Jul 18, 2012I am programming an ordering site in VB.Net and ASP.Net.I start with the main ordering form and the idea is that the user will select a subject from the drop down list and then click a button to retrieve all modules associated with that subject in a second form (smaller than the main order form).I have created the second form (frm2) and added content to it.In the main form inside the method which represents the button being clicked, I have coded the following:

I then get an error that show has not been declared and so I create a method stub for it.I run the program and when I click on the button I get the following error:'method or operation is not implemented.'This points to the following line in the 2nd form:

Throw New NotImplementedException

what I need to put inside this method to make my second form load when the button is clicked?

Visual Studio Documentation Should Have Examples For Every Method, Function, Event And Operator?
Dec 17, 2009It is really too bad that Microsoft (who once had the best documentation in the business) has slipped so badly. Good documentation does not really require analysis, though, admittedly, it is a lot of work. To wit: for each and every single method, function, event and operator provide the following: a brief topical functional description including any parameters, a detailed description of how the object works, a workable example of the code needed to make this object do something useful and links to all possible associated objects (See Also).
I see pages upon pages of useless text and links to other pages full of links. This rapidly descends into a crevace of unbelievable complexity for the developer trying to find out something truly simple like filtering a DataGridView without changing the data connection. (As it turns out this is very simple to do but I could not find a single example of how to do it in the Visual Studio documentation.)

Feb 7, 2010I have a simple login field, which works fine with the exception of one quirk. The form is set up with the tab order to go to the UserID first and the Password text box second. This works fine when the form is used the first time, but when the form is used the second time the focus in placed in the Password field. If the form is used a third time, focus is moved the OK button, that is each time moves to the next tab order. I even tried to set the focus in the Load event as in Me.txtUserID.Focus(), but this doesn't change the behavior. Again, I should note that I close the form and not hide the form.

VS 2008 Visual Studio 2008 Randomly Crashing When Simply WRITING Code?
Oct 25, 2009i'm running Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition (latest service pack ... 9.0.30729.1 SP) on XP Pro SP3 with .Net Framework version 3.5 SP1 I have a rather large project I've imported from Visual Studio 2003 (Standard).The project compiles and runs just fine ... my compiled program itself never crashes.
But while I actually have the code up in the IDE, and simply adding/deleting code the whole IDE will randomly crash (usually without warning) and I loose my changes since last save.If/when I do get some hint of why it crashed, I get a window about illegal whitespace or something.... but that's rare ... usually it just crashes without warning and the whole IDE completely shuts down instantly. just deleting/adding a character is enough to trigger it maybe once every 30 minutes.
This is on a computer that is otherwise very rock solid .... no other program ever crashes, etc.

It configures VS for a while, then builds the project. This does not happen when I build the vb.net application itself, only the installation project in the same solution. This occurs on applications using the Leadtools library, but not others.

The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
