Cannot Terminate Application - Process Remains Active
Nov 6, 2009
I'm having troubles with terminating an application. When I close the main form everything disappears but the process remains active. I think I know the cause, a certain activeX component will not release properly. As soon as I create one, I can't close normally...
dim someActiveXcomponent = new X()
...
<formClosing>
someActiveXcomponent = nothing
GC.Collect()
GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers ' here it hangs
Probably a bug in that component, but the problem is that I don't have much of a choice, I'll have to use that component for now.
Calling
System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComO bject( myObject )
will kill the reference and now the application closes properly.
I have a simple GUI form to hide / show / minimize / terminate / force terminate Processes. i can do all well but for show and hide i need the MainWindowHandle to show or hide it
So here is hide process code:
Dim Proc As New Process = Process.GetProcessesById(List.SelectedRows(0).Cells(1)) Dim hwnd = Proc.MainWindowHandle ShowWindow(hwnd,0)
If i try the same with show code:
Dim Proc As New Process = Process.GetProcessesById(List.SelectedRows(0).Cells(1)) Dim hwnd = Proc.MainWindowHandle ShowWindow(hwnd,9)
The MainWindowHandle become 0 cuz its hidden is there is any other way to get the MainWindowHandle of Process ?
Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.Visible = False Me.ShowInTaskbar = False[code].....
Notice: I used "End", to terminate the process.What I want to do is when the last function is called (Delete_AutoReq_PracNo) it terminates the execution of the application.
Reason...I'll schedule this application to ran from MS SQL Server at night. So realistically, doing all the processes I would like it to stop...Is what am doing sufficient to stop the application from running or there is a more robust approach..
I have a DLL that copies an Access database, opens it, reads it, and then closes it. The second time through it is unable to copy the Access DB because the EXE has an open handle to it. The EXE does not reference the Access DB at all, it just has the open handle because it calls my DLL. After I close the DB, I would like to terminate the EXE's handle to the Acess DB. BTS - I wrote the DLL and it is my Access DB. Another company wrote the EXE and I can not make any changes to it.
I have a spreadsheet that contains details of change requests; one row per request. This information needs to be copied into a Word form for sending off to our customer who then completes the response section. To speed up this process I have written some code that utilises the mail merge feature of Word and merges the relevant info from the spreadsheet into a Word form. This runs from Excel when a button is pressed.The problem comes when I go to save the workbook and exit Excel; it stays running in the background as a process in task manager.

I'm fairly sure it has something to do with the merge code itself but my knowledge of VB is enough to grasp what is happening but not why it is happening. If I open the Word doc that has the merge fields in it, then open the spreadsheet that houses the info Excel says the workbook is already open.
I am working on a Windows Service project that is supposed to start automatically with Windows and it has a timer to check if a certain process is created (in this case "iexplorer") the service should terminate that process. In addition, the user should not be able to stop the windows service.
I was able to create the process and make start with Windows. I changed the property (CanStop) to False but that did not help because after a few tries the servise stops. I used a For-Next loop in the timer to check for the process to terminate but unfortunatly, it didn't work. The code I used is:
Dim theProcesses() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("Iexplore") For Each currentProcess As Process In theProcesses
I got exactly the same situation as the following link. I need to end the excel process after calling it in Visual Basic. But it did not and I have to use task manager to kill EXCEL process manually.

I have been trying the same solution mentioned in the above link but not successful. Can any body to take the code below to let me know what I am doing wrong?

my app currently has a process thats ongoing (even when I navigate back to the main screen of my app). Is there any code I can use to terminate all the processes on that page before it navigates back to the main screen. In other words the page should reset to its original form?
I have a standard Visual Studio 2008 VB.Net WinForm application, running on Vista Business. One of the forms has a timer that passes Me.Handle to FlashWindowEx. This works as intended as long as none of the windows that belong to this application are the Foreground window. If this program is running and another application's window is the Foreground window, then it flashes as intended. If, however, any of this application's windows are the Foreground window, then it doesn't flash.
When I install .net Frame work 2.0 I had this Error when the setup writing system register values RegSvcs.exe-Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b) click OK to terminate the application and i have running an blank application (blank forum) and i running it in the VS 2005 IDE iget this error: windowsapplicatin1.exe-Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b) click OK to terminate the application and i have a program in setup package that i made from 1 week . i have install this program and when i want to run it i had this problem
When i click on my installed VB.net application icon on the desktop,i receive the message : 'Application failed ti initialize property ox700000000000000 ..... click ok to terminate application'.
my application will remain open after closing every form. This is a recent issue in previous versions my application would close. I call dispose(true) on all form closing/closed events. (some forms require it on closing instead of close because of some custom made classes.)?
I'm currently practicing working on mobile application using vb .net 2008. So I have these 5 forms that I link together. The form # 2 is where my quit button was positioned. I want to quit the whole application but form # 2 was the only form that is terminated while the rest of the forms was not.
I want to terminate an application using the full file path via vb.net, so I am using this code snippet.
Public Sub forceCopy() Try 'Dim strDatabasePath As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.CombinePath(Application.UserAppDataPath, "LIC.mdf") Dim strdbLogPath As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.CombinePath(Application.UserAppDataPath, "LIC_log.ldf") [Code] .....
I get an exception "Access Is Denied". I get the error at this line : For Each m As ProcessModule In process.Modules
I wrote the following code to build a basic game that makes two cars race (randomgenerator) and let the user pick their bets on the end results. I've gone terribly wrong somewhere in that my cars only race halfway then get stuck behind the start line and the programme keeps repeating the beeping and the messsagebox.show and adding results to the 'incorrect' box.
The only way to terminate the application is to hit 'stop debugging'.

I'm having a problem with closing Acrobat. I'm using vb.net to sign a PDF file in running Acrobat. After I'm done I close Acrobat and try to delete the currently signed PDF file, but I get an error message telling me that file is being used by another process. I tried closing and setting to Nothing AcroApp, AcroAVDoc, AcroPDDoc JSO, but still that doesn't work. I tried releasing them with Marshal.ReleaseComObject(...) still no effect.[code]
I have just started a simple project in VB 2008 express (having previous experience (not much though) in VB6). At the moment I have only 1 form and when I click on the red x close button the form closes but the process is still running in task manager. I have the following code which I assumed would exit the program and terminate the process but it doesnt seem to work[code]...
i made a program and used a program called Advanced Installer to put all the files from the build folder into one big install exe file to send to people but one they've installed it and go to open it they get an error saying: "the application has failed to initialize properly (0xc000135). Click on OK to terminate the application" What does this mean? do i need to have the NET framework on the machine its being run on?
I want to terminate an application using the full file path via vb.net, yet I could not find it under Process. I was hoping for an easy Process.Stop(filepath), like with Process.Start,
The fact is I'm making an application, which users can install by using a Setup file...once installed the data in the database can be updated by a centralized server. To do this, they can insert a DVD/CD-ROM and export the necessary data towards it. I need to do it that way, because some of the users who really need this data will be using stand alone computers.The application gets it's data from a mdb-file and the connection remains open as long a person works with the application (maybe not the best way to do, but I know :-) )...when the user uses the application, he can perform an export...this exports the .ini-file and pictures (which works fine), but he also needs to export the mdb behind the application...I already tried connection.close() before and connection.open() after the System.IO.File.Copy...but that doesn't seems to work.
I need code, or some instructions how-to-do, app that can perform all, or just basic, assembly commands over some currently active process on PC if that is possible in VB.NET.
The user32.dll provides functions to get the process id from a process executable name, and I can also obtain the active or foreground window that the user is working.Can I determine what windows the targeted process has opened? Otherwise, can I find out what details about the process that opened the foreground/active window?
My code needs to run only when another specific process is running and the user is actively using that window, while that window is the top-most window on the desktop.
I was using the code below but it says it cannot find process XXXX but if i press continue it doesnt work as expected:
Me.Visible = False Dim ProcId As Integer ProcId = Shell("c:windowssystem32cmd.exe", AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
[Code]....
What im trying to do is execute cscript from the open command prompt and pass it a vbscript by typing into using sendkeys but it doesn't finish typing the keys. Can i use process.start also or does someone think that i have made an logic error in code above? Its in the form load event.
Note: code cannot be put in a button because this is an program that will run hidden and i need this vbscript to run just as a test but eventually i want the program to act like a service but except its really a hidden process and not a service. Also, for clarity its for my kinect project. The reason for hidden program is because end user should not see the program running because the end user is a kid or teacher and they might close down the program hence making it useless.

I am trying to create application that monitor application list, not process list, what i mean application list is application process that shown on taskbar (NOT System Tray),how I can retrieve all application list and add them into listbox?
In the code below, I open excel file, when I try to enter some values into excel cells, and close it afterwards. For some reasons excel process is still active in task manager. I am releasing objects, quiting application like for other excel files in my program, but in this specific example can't do this. The code below is written in Visual Studio 2010, windows 7.
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop Public Class Form1 Public MainPath As String = System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click [Code] .....
