I need to write an application that works in background.I'm writing my application in vb .net, but I don't know how to intercept system hooks by using .net classes.I know that there are windows apis such as SetWindowsHookEx, etc, but I just wondering if there is a way to use .net classes or methods such as WndProc.I tried to use it, but it works only if the form has focus active. My application must work in background.

i've managed so far to get a global mousehook + i'm hoping to capture the selectedtext from anywhere system wide when the user left clicks.
i tried using the keybd_event api to send CTRL+C to copy any selectedtext to the clipboard but it has unexpected effects + seems to run before the text i've just selected becomes selected.

Is there an easy way for me to capture some system data when I except? Particular memory information. I have a service that has been running fine for years, but lately it keeps having System.OutOfMemory exceptions being thrown at random. I want to determine what memory the system is actually using then if possible to see if I am really out of memory.

View 5 RepliesIn a Windows XP Pro environment, my system uses a mainframe emulator in a window in which a scanning application is running. The data populating the mainframe app comes from various instruments, scales, barcode scanners, etc.. The data inputs are captured by a winwedge type RS232 data aquisition software.
When all the data is processed correctly, the mainframe application sends an "operation completed" message and creates an exclamation system event associated with a specific sound to inform the user.
My goal is to create a MS Access application that would use the Exclamation system event to validate writing the barcode that was just read to a database without further querying the mainframe, creating a local database. I only want to write the barcode when the mainframe application completed and therefore played the sound.
The port connection is successful but when it gets to receive data I get this timeout exception. Got no idea what to do...what to fix

It put me in baffled about this. I am able to capture Image(Printscreen function). To do this, I am using Hot key click. However, when I capture the image(wholescreen) I am not able to capture the notification balloon from the system tray.

I have used the "Mercurial.Net" Api, but the information in the Windows environment variables is a bit limited and returning error messages on the standard error channel does not appear to work. I guess I am doing something wrong.

I thing I am trying to accomplish is that when I press the key "a" I want windows to think I have pressed the key "b". But the problem I am facing is that when I press key "a" it produces "ab". View 2 RepliesTo make this short and simple, I'm developing a program that goes full screen but cannot allow the user to close or Alt-Tab out of it. The program is responsible for giving out tests that teachers create for various students and, to deter cheating, I was going to have the program block attempts to close it (I have that figured out already) and stop Alt-Tabbing out of it.
I looked up SetWindowsHookEx, but I was never good with PInvoke's and my attempts to get it to work have resulted in nothing.

I'm developing an VB.NET application which utilizes a webbrowser control. The browser control needs to navigate to a simple page which prompts the user for their user name and password. However, this prompt is not simply a web form, but it is a completely new dialog window. I need a way to automate filling in the username and password in this dialog by using locally stored credentials, so that there is no interruption in the webbrowser control's navigation. The only information that I have been able find so far that might be useful in solving this problem, involves using windows hooks in the user32.dll to intercept and negotiate with these windows at a low level.

I found some examples that show tracking a certain color, but that wont work because the qr codes have different colors. some are red, blue, purple, black, and green. I am using the touchless sdk to capture the video. How would I go about tracking the person's hand holding a 1"x1" cube? I am trying to reduce the "background noise" that the scanner has to try to read through.
View 1 RepliesI need to write a program that will capture a twain scan, then let the user input a file name and append a date and time stamp to the file. Afterwards, it should upload the file to a ftp share on our network. As a bonus, I would like it to log the transaction to a SQL server so we can verify the file was uploaded. The catch is, I have almost no programming experience. I have written a small program here and there, but never something that I had to call an outside source for besides SQL. We do have an in-house VB programmer, but he is to busy to do something like this. I wanted to give it a try myself before hiring someone else to do it since it sounds like such a simple program. I know how to layout the basic forms and I can probably figure out how to log the transaction, but I am looking for examples on twain scans and saving to ftp.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to make a rs232 serial data logging program, that accepts a 12 bit hex RFID tagID from an RFID module. My end objective is to save this RFID tagID into a database and assigned to a person for a personnel management system.I had to use button3 to add the value of the variable 'msg' into textbox1 because I was getting the following error "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'TextBox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on". It is a temporary workaround.When I do press button3, I get the incomplete hex number, instead of "4C00A2C82A0C", I get "A2C82A0C", and sometimes I get random digits like 1,A,C etc etc.

I am wanting to find out how to use the Win32 hooks to allow me to add extra save locations to the save and open dialog box so as to allow as an option for files to be saved directly to a database rather than a file system.I have tried looking online but can't find anything remotely usable for this, the only data on hooks that I can find involves Window operation hooks, mouse, leyboard, and shell hooks, nothing to do with files.
View 2 RepliesSo I am hacking together an app which listens to traffic using SharpPcap library, it reconstructs the packets from sessions using the code from TpcRcon.
Listening and reconstructing part work on their own . What I want is on each packet arrival main window gets an event so it can display the packet , and when session is reconstructed display a complete packet (I am interested in HTTP ones) . -That is where it breaks with weird symptoms: for example right now it does not stop on invoking stop listening method - the sharppcap library function hangs there forever waiting on this line of code : m_pcapThreadEvent.WaitOne();//wait for the 'stopped' signal from thread
I also had it not working and crashing in sharppcap function because I had omitted one parameter in form delegate- which makes no sense, because form delegate does not deal with packet capture at all and only reacts on "New Packet" event from my "Listener" class (which is only there to notify main form)

I wanted to make a screen recorder (not screen capture) program, but I am not entirely sure how to get it started. I have seen many videos and things on how to make one, but all of these just take multiple pictures and then don't compile them into a movie file, and I don't want to take many pictures (unless that is the only way possible.) I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I have looked at the Windows Media Encoder, but I can't seem to figure out how to use/implement it (yes, I have downloaded and installed it.) Maybe I can use some kind of ActiveX control?

I get an "Could not find file 'System.Byte[]'." error.
I am trying to launch a program using System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:Program FilesFrets on FireFretsOnFire.exe") but the program always fails - the program generates an error log - so its obviously trying to start - ive included the log text but i doubt it will be useful.
