I've got an Access 2007 table with names of people and the unique ID # of their sponsoring agencies. There is a second table in the accdb with the sponsoring agencies and their unique ID #. How do I display the actual agency name, and not the ID #, in a combobox?
What I want to see is this:
John Doe ABC Corporation (John Doe in textbox, ABC in combo)
The results I'm getting is this however:
John Doe 10
I'm using the code below to display the agency and name. I know this is not the right code but don't know what other code to use.

Combobox with bound rowsource, but I want to change the displaymember to a string returned by a procedure. In Access/VBA I would have a little function to build the string, then simply code the recordsource of the cbo as:

I have an editable ComboBox with a validation on the Text property to make sure manually entered info is valid.EDIT: All I want to do is populate the .Text property with the ValueMember of a selection rather than the DisplayMember I also have the .Items populated with valid entries having the DisplayMember and ValueMember set.My DisplayMember is a caption along with the data, and the ValueMember is the data itself.So Items might be:

I had a validation on the text which can also validate manual user input like "5ef6" The problem I'm having is that if the user selects an item from the combobox it populates the text field with the DisplayMember property (ex: "Foo - 1ab2") which will fail validation.I have tried to manually set the .Text property with the SelectedValue or the SelectedItem.Value on each of the three relevant combobox events to no avail.I would like that the .Text of the ComboBox get populated with the .ValueMember of the item when selected rather than the .DisplayMember
EDIT: I cannot validate by trying to extrapolate the value from the caption. I send the Text off to a service to be validated.

The user can manually enter something like "5ef6" which will pass validation.But when they select an item from the list, rather than manually entering it, the .Text property gets filled with the caption and not the value ... so it will contain "Foo - 1ab2" and that will fail validation. I cannot change the validation method to "infer" the value from the caption. I have no control over that service. I have a basic grid of Linq2Sql entities (frmList). I have a separate form for editing (frmEdit). frmEdit has its own DataContext (as that appears to be the recommended way). How can I tell when my detail form has saved changes?
I don't see a built-in method. I am considering raising an event on the detail form when I save the datacontex, but not sure how I consume this event on frmList, and I have a feeling these events are already created for me somewhere?

I have a LINQ to SQL DataContext with all my tables and all my stored procedures in it. Let me first start off by saying that we are upgrading our project from an access project to a WPF project. So in the Access project you could set a forms datasource to a stored procedure and edit and add new information. So in my WPF project on the page load I call my stored procedure to return an ISingleResult and then call a function to set the binding on every single textbox on the form. One is there an easier way to do this and two what if I want to add a new record since the textbox's are binded to an ISingleResult?

I have a Form and I have a DataGridView in this Form. My DataGridView does have a Combobox Column, when I am trying to Databind this DataGridView into my Datatable, it gives me an error: DataGridViewCombobox Cell Value is not valid. View 11 RepliesI'm having an issue with getting the errorprovider to work in a database application where I have put the error provider logic in a partial class and have a combobox value change.Either I set the bindings so that it works but any navigation in the binding navigator then updates the value of that combobox on every next previous etc or it never fires until the save. So there is no way to change the errorprovider setcolumnerror string to something new with out saving on every navigation move. After changing the selection in the combobox the row does shows dirty (rowstatus) so there is databinding but it doesn't fire the ColumnChanged event like textbox and other controls. Is there a way to keep all this in the business logic in a partial class?
