I have a project in VB .net 2008 and would like to communicate with a Sharepoint site on our companies SP server. Is it possible to interact with the SP site such as:
Create sub-folder
Upload and download files
Change authority levels on folders
I have an application in vb .net that I would like to have access to objects in a sharepoint site. Some of the things I would like to do from vb is create folders in my sharepoint site, have access to files that are on my sharepoint site. We have sharepoint servers at corporate so that is where my site resides.

View 1 RepliesI am building a client-server type applications and they are communicating over sockets. This is the first time I am doing such a program and I have been learning off a web example and thought I understood it all but it would appear I am missing something as it starts to work then errors. Here is what I have:

All of the above works and if I open up a telnet command window I can connect to my machine running this code on my specified port and in the command prompt window 'IDENTIFY' appears as it should from the above code. But it then gets to this block an errors on the second line:

Until I send something back from the client because then going on to the second line its trying to process something that isn't there yet.
The actual error I get is:

On the line:
netStream.Read(BytesFrom, 0, CInt(clientSocket.ReceiveBufferSize))

I use Visual Studio 2008 only . .with its built-in SQL Server (2005 Express) ... my database in App_Data is ASPNETDB.MDF ...I have created some of my tables also ....in ASPNETDB ..In my local PC the site was running fine ...But when I publish my site on production server it doesn't work and shows the following error

Using Office automation in Word 2007, I view the Document Information Panel, showing me properties of a document that resides in a SharePoint location. Using VS 2008, I interrogate the following in the Immediate Window:

but I don't see a corresponding change to the screen. I do however see that, on Advanced Properties/Custom Tab that a Custom Property by the name of "Process Name" has been recorded with the value "New Value"There seems to be some kind of one way mapping going on between "server" and "custom" properties, but the really strange part is:I can update SOME server properties, others I cannot.I don't know a darn thing about SharePoint, other than as a dumb user. And getting any help from a SharePoint admin in my company is probably a very long shot...I checked all of Word's Built-in Properties and Custom Properties, I decided that none of them can be used to update the "Process Name" "server" property.How can I update this stubborn property? Most of the server properties I can update, a few I cannot.I see some articles referring to using what looks like "SharePoint objects." Do I need to download an SDK just to populate these properties? So far I've used Office automation, because I am running locally on the user's PC and pre-filling documents using the Word object model. All that is left is to finish populating the last couple of server properties after I copied the doc to a Sharepoint folder.

View 1 RepliesI developed a site it works well at localhost (IIS) but the problem is that when I upload it to the server it works for some time, for some entries & gives the error and after this error, it appears to all pages. The errors are
1. "Unspecified error"
2. Error in web.config (attaching the error image) though I fix it.
I do not understand why it appears / displaying the error using the MS Access as database.

View 3 RepliesIve got an app that holds a list of site we have, At each site there are a few devices. The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with

When i publish my program i choose to let the application check for updates via a website and if their is one update automatically when the program starts. Is their a way were on the main user form i can make it so that the user can change the update site with out me building the program again with the new site. I want to do this becuase the site i use goes down alot so when i changed the update url no one was able to download the update for the new update server.

The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. FileNotFoundException:File Not found.My code behind the button is Shell("C:Program Files (x86)Internet Exploreriexplore.exe www,fidelity.com",AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
This works fine on the development computer. Do I need a way to code this as a relative path? If so,can you tell me how this is done?Throughout the app I have written relative paths to needed files using paths like (Open(Environment. GEtFolderPath (Environment. SpecialFoldder.Desktop) + "File Name). They all work fine when deployed.
I'm being asked to maintain several internal-only web apps for my company. For testing, after making my changes, I've created some staging sites which make use of separate databases. As such, if my users were to mistakenly use this site as if it were the production site, they may enter important data and wonder where it "disappeared" to thinking it was the production server.
I'd like to create a big banner of some sort across the top of the staging site (which ONLY appears on the staging site) to remind my users that they are on the test site. I'd like recommendations on the best way to do this, with the following considerations:

By communication I mean that I should be able to pass anything from on to another. note that although I'm not asking for code (that would beat my purpose, of course) I think some small snippets wouldn't hurt. View 2 RepliesI need to communicate between multiple applications (one server and multiple clients) in the LAN. While googling I came across 3 concepts (TCP/IP, Named Pipes and WCF). I also understand WCF needs lot of study for a starter like me. I need to have one (server) application running on one machine, the values generated by it should be displayed immediately on the other (client) application which will be running on multiple machines in a LAN. Also when the user pauses the process from the client application, it should pause the process on the server application.
View 2 RepliesI have an application which the user can open multiple instances on the same machine. However, a section of the app would have sync problems if more than 1 instance has control over it. This is where I thought of transferring control, or sharing, between them. What should I be looking into?
They would have to be able to identify which one of them has control and to send text information over. I thought IPC or Named Pipes could do the trick, but I'm unfamiliar with them and examples seem to indicate only a single server will work. Here, I have multiple instances of the same app and every one of them needs to be able to listen for that request for control.
I am communicating to a device using a USB to serial port (VCP). I am having a problem with the usb failing. When the usb fails my app will lock up and the com port is lost. I have seen a post about this but cannot find it.
View 3 RepliesI have a Delphi program that communicates with a vb.net dll that I created. The vb.net dll communicates with a Fluke scope meter via an RS232 connection. I have created a program that communicates correctly via RS232, giving me the anticipated value. Though, when I package this up as a dll and access the dll from my Delphi program I always receive a value of "1", rather than the value I was expecting (most cases a value in and around 240).I know that my delphi program is definitely communicating correctly with the dll and that my dll is definitely communicating with the scope meter
