WPF project is not accepting this property definition when starting a thread. Anybody knows the equivalent of the following in WPF?
Control.CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls = False

why the rowfilter property does not work if there is an apostrophe in present in the string. For e.g. , tempdat.DefaultView.RowFilter = "Mystring = '" & st & "'" the above does not work if st="mystrings's" under the column header Mystring.

I have an MDI window with multiple child forms. The user can hide or display child windows by checking/unchecking in a View menu on the main form, calling on either the Show or Hide methods for that form. Each time I call the show method do I also have to specify myForm.MdiParent = Me, or do I only have to specify that once, ie does vb remember that the form will always be a child? Is there way of specifying this at design time?... it doesnt appear to be a form property any more (from vb6).If I have created a form at design time, is it more efficient to create an instance of that form using New, or simply show the form as it is by just loading it. What are the pros or cons, memory and speed wise? In my case I will never need more than one copy of that form to appear, I'm using VB2005.

i just recently completed a simple windows project with security authentication that used SqlMembershipProvider and SqlRolesProvider. btw, the application connects to the db via Sql Server authentication. that means all user uses the same connectionstring to access the db.are there loop holes? is these style the least desirable? is these "hackable"?how would this type of implementation would fare compared to windows-based authentication, passport authentication, or a webapp that used same approach above?

i had to get the reference of an object/Control(for e.x a textbox) which is open in another .net application. I was able to retrieve the handle of that .net applcation form. but i was not able to obtain the reference of that form. I tried to using control.FromHandle(handle) function. but it returns a null for the handle i passed since the handle is not associated to the application I am running.I also tried to add the handle to my application with the following code.
Dim nw As New NativeWindow nw.AssignHandle(&H100300A) '&H100300A is a valid windows handle for an application which is open Dim c As Control = Control.FromHandle(nw.Handle)but c returned nothing.Is there any way using which i can get the reference of an object in another .net appliction from my application.

I have an Entity Data Model with two entities in it "Roles" and "Users". There is a navigation property from I have a EntityDataSource and a GridView. The EntityDataSource points to the Users entity and has an Include="Roles" parameter.I've added a BoundField in the GridView that points to RoleName, a property of the entity Roles. However, when I execute the code I get the above error.I have used very similar code successfully in another application. Any ideas why this isn't working?
Here is my EntityDataSource:
<asp:EntityDataSource ID="EntityDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="name=pbu_checklistEntities"
DefaultContainerName="pbu_checklistEntities" EnableDelete="True"
EnableFlattening="False" EnableUpdate="True" EntitySetName="Users" Include="Role">
</asp:EntityDataSource>
And here is the BoundField:
<asp:BoundField DataField="RoleName" HeaderText="Role" SortExpression="RoleName" />

I have a GridView that is tied to an EntityDataSource. Most columns are normal bound columns, but two are itemtemplates. When I attempt a delete on one of the rows I receive the following message:
"A property named 'Building1.building_name' was not found on the entity during an insert, update, or delete operation. Check to ensure that properties specified as binding expressions are available to the data source."
I'm not sure how it is possible that this isn't available, since it displays the element just fine when I'm just viewing - it just throws the error when I attempt deleting a row?

I had a program that was working, then the underlying access database was changed and a few of the field types were changed from double to Decime. I went to the table adapter and tried to reconfigure the the table and adapters, but the underlying code that is generated by VB did not changed and cept the fields ad doubles and I was getting a null error.
I then deleated the table and added the table again using the same sql statements
I now can not view the desing view of the form and get the following error.
"DataMember property 'Specification_SPCUrethane' cannot be found on the DataSource."
How do I remove the binding sourse and detaset from the form so that it will display so I can fix the problem?

I just started with Visual Studio 08 Professional. After compiling my project, my virus scanner gives me the message that the virus TR/Dropper.Gen is in my project. I tracked it down to the picturebox control. If I delete this control, everything looks fine.However in an new project, which only consists out of a form and a picture box with a jpg image I get the same message (This project doesn't have any code). The picture doesn't matter. Even with the standard wall papers, I get the same message.

I am working on a project previously started by someone else. He has put a tag on some of the controls called 0003_ready.txt When I run the program and that control loads, I get the error message "0003_ready.txt Not Found". As far as I can see this file is in the folder with the program, so I don't know where the program is trying to find it. There are tags to many other files, and they all work fine. Does anyone know how I could find out the location where the program is looking to find this file?

I found a custom ListBox that, strangely doesn't have an InsertAt method and I would like to add one. The custom ListBox uses an object instead of just a list of strings like a normal ListBox. I was curious what the logic behind inserting a new item at a particular index would be.The only thing I could come up with was add the new ListBoxItem at the end, then using the specified index, I could either keep moving ListBoxItem objects to the bottom, with the Add() method, from that index till the ListBoxItem at that index equals the one added, or I could use that index number in a "calculation" till I know I've moved the correct number of objects.

I would like to be able to set Control visual properties such as color, boarder, flat style, etc. on the base class of the control so that as I add new instances of the control, each instance inherits the visual properties of the base. I have tried using Application Settings but it appears as though I need to reference an application setting manually each time I add the control to a form. This is a Windows Form question.

i frequently have troubles with the dock property. it seems that either the order of creation or adding to the parent control determines whether or not a control's dock property supersedes another's. e.g. a control with the dockstyle fill will overlap with another docked control on the same parent. does anyone know what the rules are to determine how docking will behave; particularly in dynamically created GUIs?

Is there a way to bind the text property of a control to an expression? I have a user control that I add to a FlowLayoutPanel. You can see I have 4 controls in the FlowLayoutPanel below. The first control is a LinkLabel and the other three are my user controls which are numbered 1, 2, & 3. I'd like to bind the label that shows the 1, 2, or 3 to the user controls index within the FlowLayoutPanel.
If I happen to remove the 2nd user control I want the 3rd user control to now display 2. I could use the FlowLayoutPanel ControlAdded or ControlRemoved events, but wanted to see if I could do some binding first.

If I need access to the value of a user control's property BEFORE PreRender, would I need to base the custom control off of one of the preexisting data controls (repeater, listview,etc.)?One of my user controls features a gridview control that is configured based on the user control's properties on which it resides. Several of the key properties alter the SQL Statement for the underlying recordsource. I'm now in a situation where the property that sets the WHERE statement for the SQL Statement needs to tied to a value in the user control's parent FormView. Think of the formview as displaying a customer detail record. The user control takes the customer's account number and then displays data from a related table such as Customer Contact Names. Since the gridview is created before the control's prerender event, working within the prerender event doesn't seem efficient.

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim DatePriceList As New List(Of DateAndPrice)
DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/1/2000"), 10.12))

I have a composite drop down calendar user control that consists of a textbox and and calendar image and a validation control. I expose a property called "TextBox" on the usercontrol which returns a reference to the textbox used within the control. This is the textbox that the user enters the date into.
In the ASPX page, I have an instance of this usercontrol: [Code]
In my code behind, I want to detect when a user has tabbed off of the textbox and, using an UpdatePanel, refresh an appropriate message depending on the date that was specified. [Code]
OK, When I move athe calendar usercontrol into the Update panel, I get this error: A control with ID 'txtDate' could not be found for the trigger in UpdatePanel 'upIntendedStay'. It's apparently having an issue finding the embedded control even though it's within the update panel, but it has no problem finding a plain textbox that is not embedded within a usercontrol!

I have created a custom class, which contains a panel and a label on it. I added to this class a pcaption property, which holds the label text. This property is browsable and I can change its value.But when I drag the custom control to the form and change the pcaption property, it has no effect. Even the <Defaultvalue> has no effect. Why?
Here is the class code:
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class mypanel
Inherits Windows.Forms.Panel
Private panelcaption As String
[code]....
Color values are unimportant, you can change it.

I have a number of pages which implement the same interface:[code]The function doSomethingToTextBox takes a textBox item as a parameter and performs some action on it.I know the textBox is contained on every page which implements my interface, and that it has the same name on each page.My question is: how can I declare the textBox as an interface property? This will remove the need to pass the textBox as a parameter to doSomethingToTextBox()I must also add that I'm currently accessing the TextBox using get/set methods defined as part of the interface - I don't want to have to implement these methods for each page as they are exactly the same on each page.
