Why The Rowfilter Property Does Not Work If There Is An Apostrophe In Present In The String

why the rowfilter property does not work if there is an apostrophe in present in the string. For e.g. , tempdat.DefaultView.RowFilter = "Mystring = '" & st & "'" the above does not work if st="mystrings's" under the column header Mystring.

I have a datatable and I apply a filter to the defaultview.rowfilter property of that datatable. If I then loop through the rows collection of the datatable, will I only be able to see those rows that the filter applies to, or will it loop through all the rows?

I am having a problem trying to resolve an apostrophe related issue. I have searched SO,
My clientside javascript code is: var strUserText = uSettings.replace(/'/g, "'")
after the above line is executed, the form does a submit
document.form1.submit(); in code behind, a class retreives those values:
sUserSettings = request.form("strUserSettings ") the result is a semi-truncated string.Given the above code process flow, how can I save "John O'Brady's ASP Blog" in to a database?
I thought I was saving "John O'Brady's ASP Blog" but that isn't working.

Am just wondering if I'm doing something the long way round, so I thought I'd bounce it off the forum for opinion. I'm using the following code to write the contents of three text boxes into a table in an access database. [Code]
During testing I noticed that when an ' (apostrophe in words like can't) was used in the text boxes it would cause the app to halt. Figured that it was due to the ' being interpreted as a command so I could replace all of the ' in the text with a "unique" character before writing it to the database, so then when it is read back I could re-replace the "unique" character with the ' so the user sees what they have entered.
My question: is there a more efficient way of handling this ?

I just ran into what I consider a very strange issue in the execution of some code that I thought I had completely well-understood.
Basically, I was using this kind of notation:
If strOne.equals(strTwo) Then
rather than
If strOne = strTwo Then
I came from a c and java background, and using the '=' operator for comparison has always made me cringe, so I've used the .equals() comparison function thinking that it was equivalent. But just now some of my code broke. It encountered a string containing "Eagle's Nest: Dawn Patrol", used the .equals() to compare it to "Eagle's Nest: Dawn Patrol" and declared them not equal. I changed the code to use '=' rather than '.equals()' and it declared them equal. I also did this:
If strOne.Replace("'", "").Equals(strTwo.Replace("'", "")) Then
And again, it declared them equal.
This has me a little rattled because my code is filled with the use of .equals(), and I've used it assuming that it was no different than writing strOne = strTwo. I've scanned the interweb looking for information about this. I have not found any information about odd interactions between the apostrophe (or other) character(s) and .equals(). Microsoft's documentation does not hint at any subtle differences. how .equals() differs from '='

I have the following update code which works fine. However, it prompts an error when apostrophe (') is used in txtdesc.text. For example if you type name's , the error message will be..
Incorrect syntax near 's'
Unclosed quotation mark after the character string ".
query = "UPDATE dbo.TblProjects SET ProjectDesc ='" & _
txtProdesc.Text & "' where ProjectID='" & _
txtProjectID.Text & "'"
cmd = New SqlCommand(query, conn)

So I am trying to create a Win App to make copying files using Robocopy easier and eventually other tasks. Basically what I have so far is a Button that calls the Sub Robcopy_EXE. There is a tab on the form with 100 check boxes, one for each terminal, that will be designated by the user and a check box to determine if you want a detailed report or not from Robocopy. I also have a text box for the user to input the first 3 octets of the site IP Address. The check boxes and Input field are used to create string "Terminal_input" which is what runs Robocopy in CMD. Robocopy logs its progress to a text file that I have labeled "Status.txt". That is as far as I have gotten.

What I'm trying to do is to write a generic rss reader that I plug in any URL into without worry if the feed has all the common properties. For instance in my example below I'm looking for pubDate, however if no pubDate exists in the xml I'd like to return the current Date. I cannot seem to get the syntax right though.
Dim xmldoc As New XDocument
xmldoc = XDocument.Load(url)
Dim feeds = From feed In xmldoc.Descendants("item") Select New With { _

I need to set property values with WMI but it doesn't work. For example:
obj = New System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_OperatingSystem")
For Each objMgmt In obj.Get
objMgmt("description") = value
Next
That is supposed to set the computer description but it has no effects at all (and doesn't produce any exceptions). I can successfully retrieve value but I can't set it. The "description" property is supposed to be read and write, according to MS.

I'm using the IsBusy property to determine when a backgroundworker has completed. In the RunWorkerCompleted event I assing the result of the RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs to a public variable within the module where the backgroundworker events reside. The trouble is, the IsBusy property occasionally becomes true before the public variable gets assigned the value of the RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs. I experimented with putting a Threading.Thread.Sleep(10) after the IsBusy property becomes true and it seems to fix the problem. But it really doesn't seem right that I should have to do this. What is wrong here? I have placed the backgroundworker events in a component that is instantiated from the windows form, instead of placing the background worker events within the code of the form itself.
Here is my code;
Function SendAndWait(ByVal IntegerArray() As Integer) As String
Component.BackgroundWorker.CancelAsync()
Do While Component.BackgroundWorker.IsBusy

I have a form created in VB.net. It is used to get some information form a user. The form is not bound to any data source.A combobox on this form is used to enter a cost. I want the value entered by the user to be displayed using currency format. I have used the Format String Dialog that opens from the ellipses button on the FormatString property of the combobox and selected Currency. This put C2 into the FormatString property.When I run my application, this format is not applied to the value entered into the combobox at the time the number is entered or when I leave the combobox.

I'm trying to filter a dataview for e.g dates with a year larger then 2005, or e.g items with a month+year larger then Oct 2005. The compared to value comes from a datatimepicker which depending upon users input has a custom format of either full date, month+year or year as its textproperty.
I know that rowfilter is very limited in its options, and that's where my problem lies.
The dates in my dataview are real dates, M/dd/yyyy, so no conversion needed. The date columns type is also DateTime as such. The problem though is that I'm not able to separate the year, or month+year from the date columns value to compare against the datetimpickers value.

So far I only see Property being used as a means of validation in my learning material. I think maybe that's because it might be an easy way to demonstrate its usage. But isn't validation done with some kind of vb validation or on change event? Or do we use property in those events? I want to duplicate those techniques where applicable so I can get better and be more on the same page as the more advanced programmers. I'm working on incorporating classes to my work style. I see that I'm doing lots of repetitive type coding in projects that I want to put in a class. So Property keeps popping up during the learning curve. But I don't want to code Property in a mis-used way just for the sake of using it.

Is it possible to select distinct in the rowfilter method?
I have something like:
VB
'Create a data view so we can get each items name
Dim dvwItemNames As New DataView(dtlItems)
dvwItemNames.RowFilter() = "SELECT DISTINCT Name"
This gives me a syntax error exception. I tried just "Distinct Name" but this had the same result. "Name" is the column name. I would rather do it this way then looping through the entire table and putting the name in an array list or something.

I can filter when I'm only checking with one textbox, but when i try to use multiple text box filters its does not work the way I want it to. I understand what is going on here but i don't know what to do to fix it. Basically I have my main form with the datagridview, there is a button on this form called filter. When the user will hit this button a small form will pop up with 5 text boxes, I want to give the user the ability to enter into any text box they wish and the datagrid view will update accordingly.The problem is when they enter into one text box it works fine, but when the try entering into a second test box the filter is only filtering from the original datatable and now the dataview.
Code:
Public Class Form2
Dim dvFilter As DataView

Does anyone know if it's possible to pad a column to the left using the RowFilter property in a DataView? My data comes from a third party via XML which I've converted to a DataSet. I'm inferring the XML schema to set the column datatype. I've converted the column in question to string in order to properly compare any text entered by the user. At the time I populate the data grid I format the column by padding it with zeros on the left side so that it is always 11 characters (Ex: 123456789 becomes 00123456789). This is for legal reasons and not optional. However when using the RowFilter property the zeros in front are obviously not accounted for because they don't exist in the DataSet.
This is what I'm doing currently:

I have a dataset that holds a few tables; Songs, Artists and SongArtists (relations between songs and artists). I want to bind a grid to a view of the songs so they are filtered by artist. A combo will provides the artistID. Is there a way to use a dataview.RowFilter to filter based on a table that the dataview is not "viewing"? Or is there a better way to do this type of thing?

Public Class MyClass
Property Prop1 As String
Property Prop2 As String[code].....
But, I also want to be able to access the variables something like this way....
Dim MyVar = New MyClass
MyVar.Items("Prop1") = "Prop1 Value"
MyVar.Items("Prop2") = "Prop2 Vaule"
How can I setup MyClass to work both ways?
