I'm using vb 2010, lets say i have a TextBox1.Text and i want that the information entered there converts to hex so im talking about converting string to hex, i know for integers u can use hex() but not for string, im just trying to convert text to hex, now in python i would use textbox1.text.encode("hex"), im new in the programation world and i started with python so i dont know how to do this in vb2010,lets just say im making a hex to text conv and textbox1.text is where i'm gonna type the text,

View 4 RepliesI have a few small apps developed with VB2005 and Crystal Reports(that comes with VB2005) and installed at my clients. If I convert them to VB2010 and set the app to work with .Net Framework 2.0 like my VB2005 apps did, will I have to do any installation process at the clients or can I just copy to new VB2010 app to clients machine?
I ask this because when they want minor changes, I usually just install the updated exe over the internet.

I created a windows form in VB 2010 and I am trying to view it in 2008, but I get the error message "The selected file is a solution file, but was created by a newer version of this application and cannot be opened".
Is there anyway I can re-save the 2010 project(similar to Microsoft word) in order to be able to open in older version?

The form itself is not frozen as an elapsed time is going fine on it. when I "F8" thru the code the I see the controls contain the correct values and if I do a messagebox display of the control contents it displays the correct value. but the controls themselves do not change on the form. for example: label1.text will still show blank even though thru code it contains "test". what am I missing here?

I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.

View 2 RepliesMy problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.

Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.

This table is read when the application first loads. How can I convert the form string (Form1, Form2, Form3...) to a form name where I can do something like:

I get a number of something like 4.44444444444444E+24. How do I do to convert it to it normal form as 4444444444444444444444444. (I have to compare these to return true value if it's equal )
