I have a lots of strings.So I will need to do some statistics.The problem is some strings are the same.So,I will need to know the numbers of the same strings.How to do this.Shold I hold the strings in a Array of a List?
View 5 RepliesI have a list of strings. For each string in that list, I want to prepend another string. I wrote a method to do it, but I was wondering if there was something already in .NET I could use to do this. It seems like something that could be built in, but I was not able to find anything.
Here is the method I wrote:
Private Function PrependToAllInList(ByRef inputList As List(Of String), ByRef prependString As String) As List(Of String)
Dim returnList As List(Of String) = New List(Of String)
For Each inputString As String In inputList
returnList.Add(String.Format("{0}{1}", prependString, inputString))
[code].....
It works, but I would rather use built in functions whenever possible.
How do I count the number of times that a string appears in another string. I know this code:
If odocument.ToString.Contains("window.alert") Then
pops = pops + 1
End If
But that will just see if the desired string contains "window.Alert" once, rather than how many times it does contain it.
Say I have a List(Of Tag) with Tag being an object. One member of Tag, Tag.Description, is a string, and I want to make a comma-separated concatenation of the Description members.Is there an easier way to do this than to read the Description members into a List(Of String) and then use the Join function?
View 2 RepliesI have a large piece of text in which there is something simular to this:!#_KT_#!COMMANDHERE!#_KT_#!I want, in VB.Net, to get the 'COMMANDHERE' part of the string, how would I go about doing this? I have this so far:
Dim temp As String = WebBrowser1.Document.Body.ToString
Dim startIndex As Integer = temp.IndexOf("!#__KT__#!") + 1
Dim endIndex As Integer = temp.IndexOf("!#__KT__#!", startIndex)

View 2 Repliesasked other questions before this and they no longer need attencion.I am having trouble counting only lines with text in a string, and i need to see if there is a match between one string and a line in another multiline string.
View 10 Repliesi have been working on a project that requires to count the lines from a string like this is my code :
' On The Top
dim readdata as string
' in the func
dim read as new system.io.StreamReader(readstr)
readdata = Read.ReadToEnd
then i want that from every line in that file it executes like Shell(Line)
I want to get the character count of a string so I can do:
If charactercount(newbutton.text)>27 Then
'also shorten/cut the string
shortenedstring & "..."
End If
I am trying to take one string that is too long for it's container, so it wraps, and break the string at the wrap into two strings. So say I have this string
"this is a
string"
I would like to make this into: "this is a" - "string", two different strings. But I will not know where the break is..
I must input a letter and a number in a text box.. say "A14", and them I want to cut the string into "A" and "14" and then use these, but I do not know how to code this as the next string could be "A1" or "C110" and these change... could I make an if for each one? like an if for when its 2 characters and just cut it in half and then an if when its 3 characters and cut between the 1st and second and so on?

How can I find a string between two known strings like:
name=login value=12345 />
Now I need to get the string/the numbers between name=login value= and />
It's from a webpage so it has multiple lines.
I have a string in which if the string "<error" appears (as part of a larger string which would look something like this
" <error code="200">Current security level not high enough.</error>"), it finds what the code equals (in this case 200) and the message which appears between the pointy brackets (in this case "Current security level not high enough.").[code]...
I am trying to take a value from an html file. I know what code will be around the value. So I want to split the html doc with these values so I can get the value between them.
For example:
<h4>Availability</h4>
<p>
<b>Availability</b>: VALUE IS HERE <br />
</p>

I have a string, and I want to search it for multiple strings, which I basically want to use for searching for urls in an HTML file that's been loaded into a string.
so get the value of everything between
href="http:// and the next " and return it (I want to check each one separately and do different things with them, so maybe add them to an array that I can loop through?)
preferably simple short code than highly functioning code

I've googled for a while now, but I can't seem to find it.
I'm looking for a way to determine how many times a character occures within a string.
Let's say for example I want all comma's to be counted in the following string:
'122,333,222,11,44,55'
How can I retrieve the number of comma's? in example 5.
QuoteWrite a Visual Basic Console Application which executes a Do-While loop repetitively. Each time the Do-While loop executes input a String value, count and display the number of occurrences of the letters a, b, c, d and e. Use at least one Select Case statement inside your Do-While loop. For example, suppose during one execution of the Do-While loop you input the following String value: My mother is a great lady!. Your program should input this value into a String variable, compute the number of times each of the letters a, b, c, d and e occurs and output the results: a 3, b 0, c 0, d 1, and e 2. Terminate your Do-While loop once a value of All Done! is entered for the String value.
Here is my code:
Dim s1 As String
Dim a, b, c, d, e, count As Integer
Do While (s1 <> "all done")
[Code].....
ExamplesIF the user enters a 00001 the count would be 4If the user enters a 0811 the count would be 1
View 2 RepliesMy problem is an error that states Variable 'count' hides a variable in an enclosing block. Here is my project and my code so far:
1. Write a Visual Basic Console Application which executes a Do-While loop repetitively. Each time the Do-While loop executes input a String value, count and display the number of occurrences of the letters a, b, c, d and e. Use at least one Select Case statement inside your Do-While loop. For example, suppose during one execution of the Do-While loop you input the following String value: My mother is a great lady!. Terminate your Do-While loop once a value of All Done! is entered for the String value.
2. In the same Visual Basic Console Application, following the Do-While loop described in step 1. above, enter another String value and modify it by replacing all occurrences of the word hi with hello; all occurrences of the word today with the word tomorrow; all occurrences of hate with love. Output both the original String value and the modified String value.
This is my code:
Module Module1
Sub Main()
Dim s1 As String
Dim a As Integer = 0
Dim b As Integer = 0

I have written a function to get a string between 2 other strings but at the moment it is still returning the first part of the string and simply removing anything after the EndSearch value:
Public Function GetStringBetween(ByVal Haystack As String, ByVal StartSearch As String, ByVal EndSearch As String) As String
If InStr(Haystack, StartSearch) < 1 Then Return False

I have two List(Of String).Both Lists contain duplicate strings. I want to pick out all the strings which are contained in both the Lists. For example:
List1 ={"10X100","10X100","10X100","50X100","50X100","100X100"}
List2 ={"10X100","10X100","20X100","50X100","50X100","100X100","200X100"}
So, the result should be: List3={"10X100","10X100","50X100","50X100","100X100"}.How to do this?
for example i have two strings 0000 and 0001 then
0000
0001

result= 000- here difference is indicated by - sign
