I'm creating setup application, and I try to insert a serila number to the costumer information. I foud this: %%-###-%%% it's mean the erial number will be 77-000-777. How to creat another seril number I don't even this %%-###-%%% how it converted.

However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing.If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer.What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?

But after installed in Win 7, it doesn't work well (it show one file not found, but I saw the file in the right folder). Could it be the incompatibility of VS 2008 and Win 7? I'm a Visual Basic beginner. There are many things that I didn't know about Windows software development as I've been a Mac user for 20 years and just started developing Windows programs several days ago.
Anyway, using Visual Studio Installer (File > Add > New Project > Visual Studio Installer), I have two files inside the Release folder - setup.exe and Setup.msi. I've got some information about these files. So when you publish your software, what do you do with these two files? According to one web site, you can put them together into one with IExpress, which produces a file with an extension of CAB. Another web site suggests SFX Compiler. In the meantime, I downloaded a dozen applications at Download.com earlier. If I click on the download button, the final delivery extension is .exe on most of them. I know that you won't go anywhere by double-clicking on setup.exe from the Release folder without Setup.msi. Meanwhile, Setup.msi is a tand-alone application. But nobody uses this file alone to distribute their product.

Using the documentation provided by MSDN and the Forums I have managed to get data related to the Win32 Class (Computer Name, Physical Memory, IP Address, etc..) Now I would like to get the Serial number of the monitor. I believe I have to use the WmiMonitorID Class. However, I do not know the Syntax to access the property of the same. I breaked point the debuging and I found that the serial number column I added is fine and has it's values, but when I reach the line relations.add(the_relation) the serial number column loses it's values and turn into an empty column with no
numbers in it....why this is happening?
Note: I added another relations but the only relations that clear the serial number column are the relations that has a datatable that is a datasource to the datagridview that has the serial number column.
I have devices with unique serial number (string incremetation) ex : AS1002 and AS1003. I need to figure out an algorithm to produce a unique activation key for each serial number. What would be the best approach for this ?
