And i saved as 32-bit resource file (*.res) So i have a question, how can i use these files inside of resource file in my apps? i know how to add icons in to my app.. Me.Icon = New Icon(C:/icon.ico)
View 6 RepliesI deleted 3 old pictures from my resource folder. When building compiler alerted me to missing resources. Stupidly i manually edited the file and all my Toolbar icons are gone. Interesting enough the menu strip text all vanished and so did my status strip text. I managed to add back the deleted lines but still the same. If i delete the toolstrip all its buttons remain. Manually deleting each control, rewriting we are talking hours and hours of work.

I need to create high quality icons for my current project in vb.net
This is my code so far,
Private Sub CreateIcon(ByVal bitmapName As String)
Try
Dim fi As New System.IO.FileInfo(bitmapName)
[Code].....
But the problem is it only gives me a very low quality icon at the end. how to make a higher quality image?
I want to be able to create a custom shape that holds icons. Lets say for simplicity that it is a sqaure. I need the ability to load up to X amount of icons in the square. Lets say I need up to 6 icons. These icons will always be the same. However not all custom shapes will need them. I am assuming that I have to create a custom shape object class. I also want the icons to automatically adjust in size when I change the size of the shape. I am guessing that one way to do this would be to drop a TableLayoutPanel into the shape and then dock it to the shape. Then set the dock property of the icon to the cell that it resides into within the TableLayoutPanel in the shape. The number of rows/columns of the TableLayoutPanel would be predicated on the number of icons needed.
View 16 RepliesI've always had to use a program that does this stuff for me, but I'd like to just make my own program that does this. I've already got the individual bitmap images of the 3 sizes (16x16, 32x32 and 48x48) for the icon file and I usually find use some shareware program to create the icon file from the multiple bitmap images for me but I'm wondering if it's possible in .Net to create an icon file (*.ico) that contains multiple physical icons in it.
View 12 RepliesTortoiseSVN and Dropbox both have Windows shell extensions that make file icons within Windows Explorer show a small icon beside the main one, showing the file's status - has it been synced, etc How can I make my application show icons beside files like that using the Windows API? Or is there some file attribute to do that?
View 1 RepliesHow can i make it so when my application has been compiled, a user can press a button, and then save a file within the exe its self (thus, a resource). Or text in a text document (not a setting, because when the exe changes places on a user computer, it will loose its settings. The main need for this is so that the exe can change locations / computers, but still retain the origional data (or text) stored in it.
View 2 RepliesI would like to make a image in the form representing the icon and a label below it to represent name but is there a easy way to do this.
View 2 RepliesI need to refer to some strings using an "indirect string" in the registry. It should be in this form:
@filename,resource
MSDN: "If the resource value is zero or greater, the number becomes the index of the string in the binary file. If the number is negative, it becomes a resource ID."How can I find out either of these numbers for my resources that only have names in VB? I also need the ID/index for the exe's icon.
I have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.
View 8 RepliesI understand this is possible but I am not sure where to start. I want to either buy or create an application that captures a resource from another application so that I can fire off another application. In other words, I want to start an application (which I did not write) that is database driven so the form has a number of text boxes. When someone keys something into that field I want to be able to validate the value, outside of the original application. For instance, if the program asks for a zipcode and it doesn't validate the zipcode, I'd like to trap for that and write something that would validate it. At this point I don't think I'd have to send anything back to the textbox/resource.

View 2 RepliesI have a project where i want to add 5 picture boxes and run them .I have tried making a resource folder and putting the icons in there and using like MyImages(0) = My.Resources.FACE03 to retrieve it but i guess i don't have the picture files in the right place and even tried putting icons into the Resourse.resx and won't work. View 1 RepliesIs there a way in VB .Net to add specific icons to a desktop like "Computer", "Network",Recycle bin", and "User" files? I want to be ablse to use it for XP and Vista, but Vista as a main priority. In vista you can Right Click the desktop select "Properties", click "Change Desktop Items" in the left hand corner, and then select the icons you want. I thought that maybe there is a way to do it by calling that, or maybe a way to do it in the registry.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to add to my application some icons via the code. When i run my executable from debug / release compilation folder it works good. But when I move my executable files to other folders it tells me that it doesn't find the icon files.Any idea how/where I should tell the compiler to add those files to my final executable version ,that they will be visible.[code]
View 2 RepliesI have an icon in my resource and I call it using
Dim
MyIcon As Icon = My.Resources.Myiconname
but I would like to display this icon into the form and I can't find the way to do it.
i'm developing an application that extracts all the icons of a .exe file or a .ico file. the ExtractAssociatedIcon in System.Drawing.Icon only do this for the first icon which is 16x16. I would be able to extract the other formats like 64x64 or 128x128. I know that there is a Windows API that may help me, but i don't know how to call its methods or even how to use that.
View 2 RepliesThis may seem like a silly question, but where do you find the icons that you use for your programs? I know there are tons of resources online that can be used but it seems that most are hardly "professional".
View 1 RepliesI have a problem: I have got an application that is mainly control by a tray icon and I can't show the window unless I click the icon, but the client computer has set the system not to show the icons in the tray area. So can I write a small app to act like a hand-make system tray? That means I have to get all the icons in the tray area and be able to send the mouse events to the icons and let them response to their own program.
View 1 RepliesI need a function to verify the files in a folder and if it find any file can separates the icon path and file name to be loaded by code: the name for a label and icon to a picturebox.
