View 2 RepliesAt my company we use Auto Hotkey to do screen scrapes, I was wondering if there is a way to do something similar but with VB? Obviously it wouldn't be a win forms app as it's more of using send keys and mouse movements and cutting and pasting from the host software.

View 5 RepliesI have been a web developer for a number of years now and I am making the move over to form based applications. I am trying to do what I believe should be relatively simple, yet I have no idea where to start. At home I have a machine that family members tend to use P2P programs, which causes my online gaming to suffer with glitches.I want to create a server and client program.where the client app (on my laptop) consists of only one button, when the button is pressed I want the server app (my Desktop) to kill the P2P program.I already know how to kill/start the application in question.I have previously done something similar but I had used winsock (not in VS2010) and was a long time ago.
1) Sending a value/string from the client app
2) receiving the value/string on the server app
I was told to look into the system.net.sockets namespace, but I haven't found anything on the web or here that isn't a full project / over-engineered "Basic Tutorial" that helps to break this down

View 3 RepliesI am trying to create a server/client program in vb.net. What I am trying to do is test a battery that is running on a handheld (which runs Windows CE 5) by connecting to a "server" and sending information every 10 seconds or so. I am very new to .NET, and am not really sure how to go about doing this. I want two separate applications running, with the server-side keeping all of the data, since the battery is going to die, and I will lose any information if I keep it client-side. I am also new to networking, so I was not sure of whether I should create a Socket, or if I should try to do something else.
View 1 RepliesI am making a program that will put a black mask over an application (like a full screened game). This black mask will fade in and out, depending on certain criteria. Is there a way I can do that with VB? It's to help me dim my monitor without having to push anything.
View 3 RepliesI wanted to make a screen recorder (not screen capture) program, but I am not entirely sure how to get it started. I have seen many videos and things on how to make one, but all of these just take multiple pictures and then don't compile them into a movie file, and I don't want to take many pictures (unless that is the only way possible.) I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I have looked at the Windows Media Encoder, but I can't seem to figure out how to use/implement it (yes, I have downloaded and installed it.) Maybe I can use some kind of ActiveX control?

View 3 RepliesBTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps. Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

I made a simple TCP server (I've found the example on the web) in VB to receive data from about 40 TCP clients. The clients are not synchronized but sends data about every 18 minutes; the problem is sometimes several clients sends data at the same moment, so I can't receive data.I also made a second program that reads the data (server program writes data on a file, read from the second program) scheduled.
My question is this: I've seen on the web examples about Multithreaded Server Socket Program, so I suppose this could manage my 40 clients (but now the clients are syncronized and send data at the same time in client mode) or is better get data (I have a central client that asks data to all 40 devices in server mode)?
Second question: can I make a single program where I run both TCP client and TCP server at the same time?
I know that when you are working in vb.net, you are using forms, so in conclusion you will have an application with multi-windows. My questions is next: How you can do it, to have all the application screen in a main form. I have an application which assists me to manage the products and the customers. Normally with the forms, if I press on: Add new customer or Add a new product, I will have a new windows pop-uped. I want to have both on the same form. When I press on new custom to see the specific screen and when I press on the new product to see its screen. I tried now using panels and tableLayoutPanels using the property visible, but I'm sure it is not the best way to do it.
View 9 RepliesI am creating a "form1" and adding "WebBrowser1" . Let's say the URL that I put on the WebBrowser1 has a username and password. So that, this will require a on screen keyboard in order to type the username and password. In this case, I do not want to use external OSK (on screen keyboard), what I want is to create some numerik numbers or letters on my form1 with buttons and then type it on the URL.
View 7 RepliesI'm new to developing and I work for a small company. I do have previous Microsoft Access experience and have used VBA code to enhance Access applications. But now I have been asked to develop a form for data entry using VB.NET. Is it possible to create a data entry screen from VB.NET that adds, saves, retrieves and manipulates data without using a database for storing the data. Users will not have Microsoft Access (or any other database) installed on their machines. They will only have the .exe file that I create after compiling the VB.NET application.
View 7 RepliesI would like to create my own custom login screen for windows xp, so instead of typing my password, just put my finger on a fingerprinter sensor and my app will read the fingerprint and see how it is, then make the login itself.
View 6 RepliesMy touch screen keyboard is highly customizable interface and has every component I need except for sending keys, anyone see a problem with this. Originally when I was creating it I was going to use the Forms.SendKeys.Send() but it's a WPF application... no go. For starters VB.Net in its infinite wisdom decided it would not handle default form messages. Go figure.
Or perhaps, this is my real problem, I can't get the WPF application to stop getting focus. I want it to act like the windows touch keyboard, but Every action that occurs in the transparent WPF makes that application the active one. I want events to still occur but I need the active window to be the window you wish to type into, like notepad.
Any Suggestions on what I should do, to make my WPF not focusable and to send keyboard buttons to the focused (or other) window? PS, I'm using WPF in Visual Studio 2010 in Vb.Net (I can use C# Code to!)
I would like to create a login screen with username/password. The login screen should validate username/password before the user is redirected to the next screen.

My name is Orens Xhagolli and I am a between Beginner-Intermediate level. I am trying to create a little game with nice-looking and good options in Visual Basic.net. A good game needs to run in full screen. (Because the new directX is not suitable for my age (13) I don't want to use it and beacuse its a bit difficult to use it.) I read a few answers in MSDN forums but the full screen there doesn't take the entire screen ( The taskbar is visible ).
