Jan 9, 2012I am trying to create a socket class in my project to send data to ecr (electronic cash register).Ecr comes with software that listens for commands on port 3535. Command are in forms of XML Files. It has only one catch, I must close the connection on socket, so the ecr would know when to process the command and respond. Since I only send one command at a time,I need the simplest solution I can get.
How it works:I create the socket and connect it to 192.168.1.67:3535 I start
client.BeginReceive
Then I send the command with
client.BeginSend
And I do a
client.Disconnect(True)
so I can get response from ECR.And in 8 of 10 times it works just fine. The problem is this few times it doesn't work.At that time I cant receive anything because it reports that the client is not connected in ReceiveCallback but it still manages to send the data to ECR just fine. The bill comes out on the ECR, but I get no answer about what happened.
I call the class like this:

Nov 15, 2011I am new here; say to everyone first.Here is the a question for coding list box; it has two part: first part: Create a project that stores personal information for a little electronic "black book"; the fields in the file should include name, phone number, pager number, cell phone number, voice mail number, and Email Address. allow the user to enter the data into text boxes. (This part is very easy, The trouble maker is in the second part).
second part: create a second project to load the names into a list box. perform a "Look Up" and display the appropriate information for the selected name. The second part should be very easy to someone here; please write codes, I have stuck in the second part for couple of hours.

Why is so hard in vs2008?
I managed to send (or so I think). Because I can see the LEDs flashing on my board connected to the pc. But I do not get any response back from the board.
The reason I do it in vs2008, is because I need the program to run on a PDA. But to understand how rs232 works in vs2008, I just created a simple program for the pc to talk to my board.
for example, I send:
SerialPort1.Write(Chr(2) & "I" & Chr(3)) and I expect back (into a textbox), a hex string 25 characters long.
The board also send data to rs232 sometimes, without me requesting it.

Nov 29, 2009I use Visual Basic.net to create a program that connects to several websites, logins, then post some data. I can't use the httpwebrequest, some java is required on those sites, so i use the webbrowser control.Now I created a form, some fields for input data and a submit button. The coding part is like this:

The problem is that I can't control what happens after submit button is clicked. I need to pause or stop the process at any time. If I exit the program while processing, I can see that even if the window disappear, the program is still running!I tried to use a thread for this, but the subs only get called if I use begininvoke, or invoke on a starter thread.

Nov 15, 2009I am very very new to VB.NET and would like to ask a simple question. I want to create a vb.net program and allow visitors to a website to download this program. However, I prefer not to have visitors download a zip folder. I would like to have a program that just gives a prompt to save in a selected folder, once the saved file is selected it prompts the person to download, and then when finished prompts the person to run the program. The reason is twofold:
1. I don't like the extra step involved with unzipping the file. and 2. I don't like the visitors having to look for the "main" file program within the new downloaded folder. So is there any way to have just one file for others to download without having it in a zip folder?

What I'm trying to do is find a registry key called "SoftInstallPath", if found I need the end of the path to goto the new directory(new_dll) not the old one (dll).. and if "SoftInstallPath" cannot be found.. I need it to find "ProgInstallPath" and use it instead and do the same thing.By the way I'm using Visual Studio Professional 2008 on a Vista x86 machine.Also error I keep getting is: Warning 10 Function 'FixPath' doesn't return a value on all code paths. Oct 22, 2010I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.

How To Create A Simple Report From Data Collected From A Data Entry Form
Oct 13, 2010Currently we are using a VB script macro created in word to create some fairly simple forms based off of data entered on a data entry form. I am very new to VB, and I have been able to create many applications using forms, but I have absolutely no history creating reports. I have been reading up on the reports, and it looks like they are designed to use with data sources like tables. I merely want to take either data from the entry form, or from data derived internaly from processing the user entered data and populate a defined report "form". I have been searching, but there is so much on printing reports, that I feel overwhelmed. I am not looking for the exact answer as much as a link or place to look for a sample for what I want to do.
