Creating And Writing To Text File Upon Program Load
Oct 27, 2010
I want to create and write to a text file upon Program Load...this is my code (does not work):
Dim path As String = "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsThe Bible Study Tool est.txt"
My.Computer.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(path)
'create and write to settings file
My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(path, "Some meaningless Text!!!!")
The directory is there, but the text file is not....
Write a program that requests a color as input in a text box and then determines whether or not the color is in the text file. The program should use the Boolean-valued Function procedure IsCrayola that returns the value True if the color in the text box is a Crayola color.
So when i click btnNextRecord i need it to show data for first employee when i click btnNextRecord move to the second one and so on. But when i click btnNextRecord it only displays data for last Employee and if i keep clicking it, it will keep displaying the same data for the same amount of employees i had entered data for.
I am making a program that loads, edits and saves 5000 rows x 100 columns of data. The data is stored in a datagridview. I use these commands to write the file:
dim z as integer dim z1 as integer fileopen(1,"c:drawermyfile.txt",openmode.output) for z=0 to datagridview1.rows.count-1 [Code] .....
Every time I issue this command the whole program freezes until the computer is done writing the file. Is there some way I can get it to write this file without freezing up the program? Or, perhaps a better way to write this large data file?
All the code i found for multi-threading is complex and not clear. What i want to do is creating a thread for reading and analyzing a big text file on Form_Load event, so that the form UI building continue without waiting for reading and analyzing the file finish.
I've been staring at my code for a few hours, and cannot think of the next part. For my final I need to make a hangman program Pretty much I have a button to load a .txt, a label, a multiline textbox(which will be hidden later), and a normal textbox. I need the program to load the txt file, and randomly select a word. Then have the program put a " - " for every letter in that word The program loads the txt file,to the multiline textbox, but I don't know what to put next. EDIT:After looking at my book i noticed it shows how to make a hangman program, but without loading a text file. So, all I need is the code that will make it select a word randomly from the list, and i think I can do the rest..
I have a windows app in vb.net , i am trying to read a xml file from my server(url...).I am able to read abc.xml . now i have a requirement to show abc.xml in a rich text box in vb.net and then i have to show node and its value in combobox. I am able to do this with a directory(suppose that file is in C:/abc.xml)[code]...
Im having trouble creating and then writing to a file. First, I check to see if the file exists, if it does not, then I create the file, close it, and then open again for appending text. I am getting an error during debugging saying the file is in use by another process, which is confusing since I am closing the file before opening it to append any further text. Here is my code:
I am trying to create a countdown to a date that the user can enter. I think I got most of the code in the button that saves the date. It gets the date the user entered in comboboxes, creates a txt file, then writes all the information to that txt file. I tested it out, but it didn't work. It created the file, but when it tried to write to it, it errored. The error says "The process cannot access the file 'C:Countdown.txt' because it is being used by another process." This is the code.
Dim enteredmonth As String = monthcb.SelectedItem Dim enteredday As String = daycb.SelectedItem Dim enteredyear As String = yearcb.SelectedItem
create a text file then write "0" (zero) to it.It is for a larger project but this is the code that I have been working with:
Public Class Loading Dim Path As String = "C:NAME.txt" Private Sub FileCreate()
[code].....
It all seems to work fine until it tries to write "0" to the .txt file. It comes up with an error saying that the process cannot access the file because another process is using the that it just created! I have checked and the only process using it is the one above.
I have been reading through Atheists posts in regards to client-server and TCP client/server connection's. But how do i go about writing a program with 1 client and server where the client side creates a text file.Once the server sees there is a text file it connects and downloads it to itself or the client pushes the text file to the server.Once on the server i will read the text file and put its info into a sql db.
I'm making my own ToDo program, and I need to add the ability for the user to create a ToDo item. When they do this, I need to be able to add in an XML element/section in a list file.My XML file looks like this:
Say if a user created an item with the name 'papers' and due date 'Tomorrow', I need to be able to make another list element like above and insert it before the </list> tag. Basically I'm asking how can I write to my XML file at a specific position (at the end before the </list> tag)? Is it possible just to go to the end of the file and go back a line?
i have started programming a diary sort of program. i have a home form which takes you to other features. im not sure if there is an easier way to do this but the view is week by week with a new week on a new form. and on each form i have a separate text box for each day. using the code:
'In the form load event: txtMonday.Text = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("DayMonth.txt") 'In the text-changed & form closing event: My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText("DayMonth.txt", Monday.Text, False)
How do I start writing a program that has 6 text boxes. A person would enter a member number if they have one, number of movies rented at $1.80 a piece. A Text box should then display Total Rental Price, and if a member number was entered, a 10% discount is given (the total of the discount shows up in another text box) and after there discount is applied the Amount Due is displayed in yet another Text Box.
This is all supposed to happed when the customer clicks on a calculation button named: Button1
This is what I have so far, but I don't even know if this is correct, as I am getting 1 error relating to a name not being declared. Please help and clue me in to where to start!
Public Class Bonanza Private Sub memberNumberBox_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles memberNumberBox.TextChanged
I have create setup for my project, when i tried to open the form which contain datagridview on it. It give me this error. Here is the attachment screen shot of the error. How to solve this error.
This is my first post in the community. I am putting together a program that serves two functions:1. Takes input from TextBoxes and writes it to a text file.2. Takes the text from the text file and displays two specific strings of text in a MessageBox.This is the code for the button that writes the input to file.
Private Sub facSubmitButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles facSubmitButton.Click Dim facultyRecord As String = "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\teeny.txt"
When using .write method the string will be stored at the end of the text file. Is there a method that adds them on top? If not, how can I get this done without using too much memory and processor time?
I am building an application that accepts input entered into textboxes, then checks the input for negative values, etc. before writing it to a file. If the data does not meet the conditions, a message box pops up letting the user know. The problem I am having is that after it checks the data and displays the message box, it continues to save the input to the file anyway. How do I make it only write to the file if all the data meets my conditions?
I have just recently been using VB 2010 after using VB5. I have noticed a lot of changes. The problem I have is that I wish to open and save text files to and from arrays in the background. I've attached what I would do in VB5. I have searched around, but all the examples I find use a Textbox instead of an array. Can anyone show me how I can do this with VB 2010?
I am creating a text file using a save file dialog and copying the path to the text box which file is used to write from vb.net. when i try to write i get an error "The process cannot access the file '....fileName.txt' because it is being used by other program".
The code is below
Public Sub writeInTextFile() Try Dim oWrite As New StreamWriter(TxtOutputPath.Text)
I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.
Here is my code: Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strPath) Dim dir1 As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.txt") Dim dFiles As IO.FileInfo ListBox.Items.Add(dFiles)
However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.
I am writing an application that must generate a plain Text file with fixed sized columns.my current code is:
Dim MyFilePath As String = Path & FILE_PREFIX & FileNr & ".TXT" IO.File.Delete(MyFilePath) Dim FileStr As New IO.StreamWriter(MyFilePath, False, <ENCODER HERE>)
I want to write a line into a text /.cfg file. the line is = name "ishtiak", i need a space between name & "ishtiak". the text "ishtiak" is loading from a textbox called textbox1. i don't want in the text box my name like this "ishtiak" it will be without "" like this ishtiak but in the text file it will add "" before & after my name.
so the question is: 1.how to add space between name & "ishtiak"? like this = name "ishtiak". 2.My textbox text will be ishtiak, but it will be written like this "ishtiak" [Code]
We have some information that we need to write (about 18KB) to a .txt file stored in one of our network drives. The file is re-written about once every 15 minutes but is read practically at least every second. We are currently using StreamWriter to write file. The file server is in remote location and the round trip ping varies from <1ms to 15ms.
The problem is, sometimes it takes as long as 6 seconds to write the contents to the file, which is definitely way too long even after we take consideration of the network speed. therefore, I am just wondering if there is any efficient way to write the file using VB.Net to improve the performance? Java has a very good tool named BufferedOutputStream, which unfortunately is not available in VB.Net (or I just have not found it).
Application log file have been created to monitor the process and following code has been used to write the log information into text file. For the first time there is no error encountered when the application runs for hours, may be 3 hours i am getting following error "An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in mscorlib.dll" [code]...
