View 7 RepliesI am using an ADODB connection to a Sybase ASE Database for a small app that runs queries and returns the results to a grid, to XML and to Schema file. I recently tried the query on a Sybase script (Between a Begin and End statement) and had an exception when I used RS.EOF which reported "Operation is not allowed when the object is closed." The code works fine for other queries, including those between begin and end statements, so I did some debugging and found that the failure only happens when my SQL script (Which is typed into a rich text box) contains either Sybase variables (ex. @MyTable) or uses temp tables (ex. Select * into #mytemptable from myrealtable). The actual execution works OK (without an exception) but the recordset seems to be closed. A failing example is :

Im trying to take fields from a Products Table and populate a listbox in a userform with the productName field. that works fine. but i also have to open the recordset and the connection. when i run the program, i get an error saying the 'operation is not allowed when the object is open' then it highlghts the bolded line in the following code:

I've found some example code for a chat application which gives me some pointers, and I've got that working, but now I am trying to refactor the basic code (the example is all in embedded in forms) into classes but I'm running into difficulties. Basically I want a server application to listen for inbound messages with a general Listener object which will parse the message (which will include a reference so I can work out the address of the computer sending the message).
When a request comes in from a new computer it will create a new object containing (amongst other things) a new TCP connection back to the client for managing and returning messages.The problem is I'm getting the message "The operation is not allowed on non-connected sockets" in my refactored code.The original code (on a form with a single listbox and a background worker) looks liks this :

I get the error on last line of code of the OnConnect procedure when my client application tries to connect. Now I know this worked fine with the original code but my new version of the code fails to set up the connection. I have removed the "background worker" stuff because as far as I can tell all it is doing is updating the display which I don't need to do.

UPDATE: The application requests administration rights in app.manifest (requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator")I get the same error with UAC On or even OFF.The driver is not digitally signed If i install the driver manually i get the windows security warning, with "Don't install this driver software" as the default option (And unfortunately, do not get that Message while running the code above).

I am using VS 2008 Pro and my ? is, I am trying to add lines to a listbox and keep getting Cross-Thread Operation not Valid exception. The code I am using was downloaded from codeproject. When I run this app, it works fine. I added it to my app and this is where the cross-threading problem occurs.[code]I am trying to convert mp3 files to .wav files. With the line above it works. View 5 RepliesI have a windows form that gets data from a scale via the serial port. Since I need the operator to be able to cancel the process I do the get data process on a second thread. The data collection process gets multiple readings from the scale one at a time. The form has a label that needs to be updated with information specific to each reading.
I call the method to get the data from the scale with this code.

I get the exception on the "lblInstructions.Text =" statement. I thought the GetDataCallback method was part of the UI thread so don't understand why I'm getting the exception. I know this could probably be rewritten using a BackgroundWorker and it's appropriate events but for now would like to understand why this isn't working as expected. The application was written originally in VS2003 and just recently upgraded to VS2008.
I'm getting a Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute error every time I try to close this form. I suspect it has something to do with the StringBuilder() which I have declared in the starting form (Details1). I have already spent hours looking for the problem. It does not throw an error when I debug, only when I install on other machines.

Got a proccess thread thats in charge of loading a listbox full of the first line of text for richtextbox items on form load. Though I use Me.Invoke(New MethodInvoker...) to add items on the main thread so its thread safe it coughs when the first line of rtf data are thrown at it, acting as if I hadnt called adding the items on the main thread.
Up at the class level:

I"ve also tried to remedy this using a delegate to invoke the listbox before attempting to update it, but the invoke method itself is throwing the exception. I am not using the default instance of the form (a new instance of this form is created). Anyone know how I can get around this? I can't load the listbox full of items directly in the form's load procedure because work takes place in the thread beforehand so there are strings to add to the listbox. I've got MS Visual Studio 2008 Pro and Vista SP2 (latest updates applied).
