DB/Reporting :: OLE Database Access - Move My Programs And The Database To Another Computer And Hard-disks

Apr 21, 2008

I want to move my programs and the database to another computer and hard-disks. It looks to me as though I nearly have to re-create the controls and rewrite some of the code to make it so the programs still work after the move. At least with ODBC all I would change was the DSN definitions external to the programs. Is there an easy way to move or rename a database without loads of work?

Simple Inventory - Program Using Classes Hard Coded - Database Named "DATABASE" In Ms Access 2003

Sep 29, 2010

I want to create program in vb2008 express with ms access database. Can somebody help me so i can learn how to program using classes hard coded. I have learned vb6 before but it has a big difference on vb2008.

I have a database named "DATABASE" in ms access 2003 and the details are: Table :

EMPLOYEE(EmpNo, EmpName), DEPARTMENT(DeptID, DeptName), CATEGORY(CategoryID, CategoryName), SUPPLIER(SupplierID, SupplierName), ITEM(ItemID, Itemname), ITEMLIST(ItemListID, ItemID, ItemDescription), INVENTORY

[CODE]...

All the CAPITALIZED name are Table and all items inside the parenthesis are fieldnames. I don't know where to start on working on this RECORDS. I was able to understand visual basic 6 a bit, and i am trying to apply the coding to VB 2008 but all i get is errors. I am hopeless now and i need help to be able to start my programs. If someone can give me a sample code, i think i would be able to trace the line of code to be able to understand it. I am currently an inventory manager on the small company i was working with and i like to organize my record by using database.

DB/Reporting :: Cannot Connect To Database From User's Computer

Feb 29, 2012

I created an executable file of an application done in VB Express 2010 which connects to a Access 2010 database. When installling the executable file at one of the user's computer, the file is installed correctly, but it fail's when trying to connect to the database. It says that Microsoft Dataengine cannot open the database. The user's computer doesn't have Access installed, does it need to be installed? or can I install a framework or application to avoid installing Access at the user's computer?

DB/Reporting :: Connect Database In Server From A Client Computer?

Feb 24, 2008

I wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:

1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.

2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)

3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.

However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.

DB/Reporting :: Move Data (400 GB) Into Database Then Be Able To Run Various Algorithms Determining Correlations Of Time Series

Mar 12, 2012

I'm faced with a (fun, actually) data mining problem; I have raw ASCII files from instruments, and I want to move that data (~400 GB) into a database, then be able to run various algorithms determining correlations of time series, etc. I would like to write the mining algorithms in Visual Basic (.net, VS 2010 right now), and be able to do visualizations with VB code I have in hand.On the nature of the data: think of a set of several thousand devices, each recording a measurement at a given interval - so I'm talking time-series vectors. It's not more complex than that - though I may have vectors with holes, etc. - not sure what problems of that sort lurk in the data.I spent today re-acquainting myself with VB.NET's interface to (in one case) a Microsoft Access database. What used to be fairly simple - DAO I think it was - involved tables, recordsets, etc (and that would likely be fine). Now I seem to be required to have a weird variety of generally useless objects, e.g. 'adapters', 'datasets', etc. The problem is that I know exactly what I need, and all this extraneous stuff just gets in the way (certainly in coding complexity and opaqueness, and likely in efficiency as well). If any of these mechanisms gave me a kind of virtual access to the entire dataset, and let me control caching parameters, etc.it might be great, but I found nothing along those lines. It seems like useless bloat, though I suppose it must be useful to someone.Anyway, I tried a number of different approaches, and none seemed at all aimed at what I need to do: efficiently do math on a large dataset. I can't believe I'm the first to have this problem, but I can find no useful wisdom out there. I'd be comfortable with pretty much any underlying database mechanism: MySQL, SQL Server, MS Access, but ideally something generally SQL based (I may eventually have to transition this entire system to draw from a client's SQL database, though that's not an overriding concern now). Other than that I want simplicity and efficiency. I thought my old ODBC techniques would work, and to some extent they do, though modifying tables seemed to have bizarre problems (no errors, but not modifications either).

I do have a fairly aggressive deadline to show some algorithm results, so my focus in the short term is to get something reasonable working *in* the short term - in other words, it's less important to me to pick the 'fastest' relational database than it is to pick a database that lets me focus on coding the algorithms, not working through tedious data access coding. If this db could be any smaller, I'd have tried to do it all 'in memory' at least for proving concepts; I don't want to have to learn an entire jargon and approach just to be able to retrieve data points.Perhaps I'll need to bite the bullet and just write something myself, a .dll perhaps just to save and restore large time series vectors. It seems a bit frightening to me that one would have to do this in this age, what with all the database systems out there, but I don't have much time to work through arcane interface logic.

Run Computer But Program Does Not Work As It Cannot Access Database

Mar 18, 2012

I made a program that i want to run on computers at school and it utalizes a MySQL database. When i try to run it the program does not work as it cannot access the database. I open the code up on my computer at school and it has errors saying ti does nto recognize the MySQL code as it does not have it in its .Net library. So i try to download it into the library but that does not work. So my question is, will programs using any kind of database not work unless the user installs the needed add on, weather it be a .Net library add on or a java add on for MySQL? That cant be right it.

Setup Works On One Computer, Not Another - Access Database

Jul 1, 2011

I have created a setup using INNO which puts a Visual Basic 2010 Express program on the computer to update an Access database. It works on my Windows XP computer. On the user's computer, which is a Windows 7 computer, the Access database comes up as Read Only when opened. I get an "Operation must use an updateable query" error in the Visual Basic program when I try to create a record. The database has Read Only checked off in it's properties. But when you open it in Access 2010, it says Read Only at the top. (This computer has Access 2010. The database itself is in 2002-2003 format.) How can I get this database to be updateable on the user's computer? It works on my computer/does not say Read Only when opened in Access 2007.

DB/Reporting :: Access Database In VB 2005?

Aug 21, 2008

I'm building an aplication with an MS Access database behind the scene. In many of my forms I'm gonna use DataGridViews to show data from the database, not an entire table but data based on manually built queries. So, I have few questions without answers, by now. Solutions or 1. I haven't decided how will I bring the database into the project: from the menu -> Add New Data Source, or within the code, at runtime. I still don't know which one's best or why.2. How exactly can I execute any SQL query (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE etc) on my Access database from my aplication?

DB/Reporting :: Migrating Access Database To MS SQL?

Jul 16, 2009

I need to update a database app written in VB, Visual Studio 2003, using an Access Database.Currently: Customer has 4 users, local network. Access Database is 30MB, about 50 tables.Wanted: Customer is opening new offices, and wants to connect to the database via the internet. There will be 10-15 users.App background: I have all data access via OleDbDataAdapters and one OleDbDataConnection. There are 4 DataSets: Global, Lookup, Reports, FormSpecific.

I have one Private function: FillTable:

Private Function FillTable(ByVal TableToFill As DataTable, _
Optional ByVal OleDbAdpToUse As OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter = Nothing) As Integer
' fills the table by using OleDbDataAdapter.Fill(aTable)

[code]...

All is working well. What I Need to Do:I think I need to migrate the Access Database to MS SQL. What I Have:Visual Studio 2008 Professional. I have started the MS SQL walkthroughs. I did the Create a Data Connection to the Northwind Database walkthrough, and connected via MS SQL Server. I cannot find where I can modify the SQL Commands. If I convert my Access Database to a MS SQL Database then can I

1) Just update the OleDbConnection, so it connects to the MS SQL Database (not the Access database).

2) If I cannot do #1, what do I need to start with?

DB/Reporting :: SQL - Using Access 2001 And My Database ?

Mar 11, 2008

I'm using Access 2001 and my Database is structured as follows:

Chance(Number, Detail, Action, Amount, Owner)
CommunityChest(Number, Detail, Action, Amount, Owner)

[CODE]........

I'm making a Monopoly Game which i'll make sure i post up here when done, I'm using Visual Basics 2005 and OLEDB Connection, i know how to work all that but i have the following scenarios to find SQL for.

Upgrade Property - I need to use the Update Query for this. A PropertyName is selected from a list box and someone then clicks to upgrade a property.

Properties.HousesOwned should have it's value raised by 1 Where the player owns all 3 sets. The Houseprice should then be took off the Players Money.

Downgrade Property - I need to use the Update Query for this. A PropertyName is selected from a list box and someone then clicks to downgrade a property.

Properties.HousesOwned should have it's value lowered by 1 (until it gets to 0) Where the player owns all 3 sets. The Houseprice should then be added to the Players Money.

DB/Reporting :: Vb 2010 And Access Database?

Dec 13, 2010

I'm new to Visual Basic. I came across a random number generator tutorial. Got it working fine and then I thought, Is there a way to get it to access a database Here's the thing

1. Generate the random number.
2. looks at the database and finds the corresponding id number.
3. Takes the field for that number and enters it into a text field in the program.

So for example the number generated is 32. Then the program looks at the database and looks for id number 32. then takes the text in line 32 and enters it into a textbox in the program. Now I have my database and the program. But just can't seam to figure out how to get the two connected like I want. I have looked and searched but have found nothing like it I am using Visual Basic 2010 and Access 2007.

DB/Reporting :: How To Access A Database With Visual Studio

I've been googling to find a guide on how to access a database with visual studio.I cant find anything complete or up to date. I should point out that I dont have a great deal of experience with SQL.I'm not really 100% sure where to start. Most of the guides I've found tend to assume your accessing an existing SQL database and I need to set one up from scratch. I'm not sure if I'm even setting SQL server up correctly. point me in the right direction on where to get started. A good, up to date tutorial would be great.

For my purposes the SQL database will only be written to from the local machine but there will also be another machine writing to this database.I'm currently using Visual basic Express 2010 and SQL Server Express 2008 R2, mostly because they are the most recent when I googled it.
