Setup Works On One Computer, Not Another - Access Database
Jul 1, 2011
I have created a setup using INNO which puts a Visual Basic 2010 Express program on the computer to update an Access database. It works on my Windows XP computer. On the user's computer, which is a Windows 7 computer, the Access database comes up as Read Only when opened. I get an "Operation must use an updateable query" error in the Visual Basic program when I try to create a record. The database has Read Only checked off in it's properties. But when you open it in Access 2010, it says Read Only at the top. (This computer has Access 2010. The database itself is in 2002-2003 format.) How can I get this database to be updateable on the user's computer? It works on my computer/does not say Read Only when opened in Access 2007.

I've created a small DLL, an addin for Autodesk Inventor, this addin saves some information provided by the user and the program to an access(mdb)database.The whole idea behind this is that it allows users to quickly find drawings, assemblies and so on.The DLL works great on x86 systems however it has issues on x64 because I used ado.net.In a attempt to solve it I forced .net to compile it with the target x86 CPU settings.
However using this I'm unable register the dll (C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727RegAsm.exe /codebase SavetoDatabase.dll )It says its not a proper .net dll file and therefore cannot be registered.
is there any other access-database connection provider (like dao or ado.net) that works on a 64 bit machine? Or do I need to change from mdb databases to another type (like mysql)? because sooner or later all machines its running on will be converted to x64.Or do I need to register the dll in another way?I've also tried to replace the conn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 with ACE, with no luck however

I want to move my programs and the database to another computer and hard-disks. It looks to me as though I nearly have to re-create the controls and rewrite some of the code to make it so the programs still work after the move. At least with ODBC all I would change was the DSN definitions external to the programs. Is there an easy way to move or rename a database without loads of work?

I am using vb to make a hospital system which works with a access database. i am having an issue with the updating function to the database, this time round instead of hard codding the connection i used the connection/data source wizard, in microsoft visual studio 2008 and there fore most of the code has been auto generated for me, which includes the insert, delete and update funtions from what i can find and what i have read vb is ment to also auto generate this which it is not. the funny thing is that i can close the program down and reload it (as long as i haven't opened the database) and my changes are still there but if i go and open the database and it hasn't changed. also i can change the database through the use of the Dataset connections in the datasource tab but not int he program the code ive found and believe that is meant to update the database
This is running off a couple of buttons i also have a update query but have know way of accessing it
Me.Validate()
Me.TblPatientDetailsBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.TableAdapterManager.UpdateAll(Me.PatientInfoDataSet)

I am writing a program that is using a access DB for the info to be displayed. However when i started making the program i started by just databinding the listboxes.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'AcskillsDataSet.Skills' table. You
[Code]....
but now that im looking at the data this is prolly only useful for simple data. Im wanting to seperate the data from queries into multiple boxes. Am i better off just manually having a connection to the database and running queries into arrays to sort the data?? The above method looks like im going to be trying to fight the databound stuff. There are two tables and the way the built in query builder is im starting to think its easier to write my own queries in variables or whatever.

I have a VB.Net program which reads and writes to an Access database. I am trying to deploy the program using a setup (created with INNO Setup). Upon installation on a Windows 7 computer, Windows 7 is preventing it from writing data without changing the permission settings. It reads data but it doesn't write data. This problem doesn't happen in Windows XP. My question is: is there any way to make the Visual Basic .Net program write data to an Access database on Windows 7 from the setup without the user having to change permission settings?

I made a program that i want to run on computers at school and it utalizes a MySQL database. When i try to run it the program does not work as it cannot access the database. I open the code up on my computer at school and it has errors saying ti does nto recognize the MySQL code as it does not have it in its .Net library. So i try to download it into the library but that does not work. So my question is, will programs using any kind of database not work unless the user installs the needed add on, weather it be a .Net library add on or a java add on for MySQL? That cant be right it.

I'm trying to add a string to a access database, for a column that was originally designed for numbers, i have changed the data type under the design view from number to text, yet I still get a error saying that it cannot convert the string expected int32
Input string was not in a correct format.Couldn't store in Parent_ID Column. Expected type is Int32.This is the full exception, i would have put it into code display but the option wasn't there
System.ArgumentException was unhandled
Message=Input string was not in a correct format.Couldn't store <A-238> in Parent_ID Column. Expected type is Int32.

I've made a simple knowledgebase program which contains example documents. The documents are stored in a folder, and in an accessdatabase stands the information about the documents.The program also includes a simple search option. The program itself is located in a folder on a network computer.It has to be a network program for collegues can add other examples.Now it gets weird. at least in my opinion.When I run the program locally -> no problem.When I run the program from another network PC -> no problem.But when I run the program from a network Thin Client -> shaboom..At least when I enter a search option and the connection to the database is opened:"Application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security pollcy. To grand this application the required permission, contact you system administrator or use the Microsoft .NET framework configuration tool."[code]Now I've found a LOT of topics in this forum and many others, and it's clear that apps from another network location are run without "full trust". And the trust issue can be handled with caspol or web.config. Although caspol is a mystery to me and web.config didn't seem to work.But since it's so explicitly crashing on Thin Clients.

I am converting old VB6 code to VB.NET with ADO.NET (OleDB). This is my query that will create a blank table when ran in VB.NET, but then works when ran directly in Access. This code presumably also works in VB6, as I am using the same SQL:
SELECT qryAsOf.name, qryAsOf.type, 0 as opt, 0 as swap
INTO qryCon
FROM qryAsOf
LEFT JOIN qryLinked on qryAsOf.c = qryLinked.lc
I feel like this has something to do with the left join and select into being together, but like I said it is only VB that has an issue with it, Access handles it perfectly.Without the INTO line, this query returns all 600+ rows.
This DOES NOT WORK:
cm.CommandText = "CREATE TABLE qryCon (etc...)"
cm.ExecuteNonQuery()
cm.CommandText = "INSERT INTO qryCon SELECT ..." '(rest of query above without INTO line)
cm.ExecuteNonQuery
This DOES WORK:
cm.CommandText = "CREATE PROC qryCon AS SELECT ..." '(same select as above without INTO, again)
cm.ExecuteNonQuery
The CREATE PROC that does work is fine, except I need to insert data into it later, so I get errors about how I need an updatable table. I really want the end qryCon to be a table, but I can't seem to get that to work :(
*However, when I do something like this (using the stored proc (renamed) above which, if viewed in Access, is full of data)
cm.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM storedProc"
dr = cm.ExecuteReader
[code]....
This DOES NOT WORK! By the way, I removed the concatenation in the query for readability. It is correct in the actual project.

Public Class MyClass
Property Prop1 As String
Property Prop2 As String[code].....
But, I also want to be able to access the variables something like this way....
Dim MyVar = New MyClass
MyVar.Items("Prop1") = "Prop1 Value"
MyVar.Items("Prop2") = "Prop2 Vaule"
How can I setup MyClass to work both ways?

how to setup POP3 access that DOES NOT cost money! I have a program that needs to receive email.I have looked ALL over the internet for examples and have come up with NOTHING! Maybe it's about time we all pull together and finally put a solution out here for how to do it. I know it's not THAT complicated because I am a novice as is my roommate and we had an email program about 4 years ago and it wasn't that complicated then, so I don't imagine it is, however, I did not save that email program that we built so I can not refer to the coding again!

I trained myself to program beginning in 1980 with the Basic language for Radio Shack's TRS-80 Model III.Later learned to program macros in Lotus 1-2-3, then taught myself DBase, then started Visual Basic.I've trained myself on Visual Basic up to VB 6.0.Now, as I understand it, Windows 7 and beyond will not support using VB 6.0. I have programmed many pieces of software we use in our offices.My software is Access Database intensive. I put the database on the server and we can connect from our various computers to the databases and work on the data as necessary.I've never gotten into Server/Client types of organization because I don't understand the server model and how to do that...For the sample databases one needs a server application running and I don't have one (Our server only has a standard operating system on it).
Now I was looking at Visual Basic 2010 and am totally lost.In VB 6.0 samples, I could put a break point (debug) and stop the program and examine what it is doing.now I don't even know where to put a break point..When I put one in the samples, the sample application loads and does not hit the break point...Is there anywhere I can learn how to move up to Visual Basic 2010?I don't want to have to quit my job and go back to school but it seems soooo different from VB 6.0.Just trying to figure out 'datasets' is a chore and to see how they work in the samples, I have to set up some form of database somewhere and it does not show me how.

I have written many programs and never really needed a database before. Just never came up. I am a self learned programmer. I have experience in using php and database on websites etc. I am currently writing a program in VB 2010 and need some assistance in using a database.simplest way to setup and use a database in VB. I would believe that it's better then saving "clients/data" to a file. . The software is being created only to be used on one computer and not over a network etc.
