Nov 29, 2011The program I am building requires a lot of initial user input. I was wanting to stream line this by creating a 'config' file so to speak that after the user enters all the initial data they can click a button that will save their entries into a secure file. When they leave for the day and come back they can click the load button and it auto fills in all the relevant data that will be stored in the file.
Still digging through the MSDN for help, but no luck on options yet.
I was thinking save the information to a text file somehow, but passwords will be stored and I would like to make it secure if possible.

I tried this in " Add special folder --> Custom folder " then a folder appears i renamed it to ImageBox and in default location i typed " C: " and set its property to always create but when i tested the setup on xp an vista i did not created any folder.

Jul 6, 2011I'm creating a database using Access 2007 and Visual Basic 2008.
I'm using the try and catch exception handler in my project. this try and catch are inserted in the Save Record button. here is the code snippet of my try & catch:

My problem is that, whenever i add a new record and clicked the Save Record button, the msgbox "Data Update Failed" popped out. But when i recheck, the newly added record was actually successfully saved in the database.
Is there something wrong with my code? The new record is inserted in the database but why does the "Data Update Failed" msgbox was popped out instead of the "Data Saved" msgbox?? I've tried many times but i still cant figure this out. please help.

Dec 4, 2009Visual Basic Project - Student Check In Form using an Access database backend This form needs to draw information from an Access database containg tables for STUDENT, INSTRUCTOR, and SECTION. These all need to have primary keys and ids. When (the user) clicks on the drop down box that displays all the sections:
{Table Tennis 1, Table Tennis 2, Table Tennis 3, Billiards 1, Billiards 2, Billiards 3}This should populate the listbox or datagrid from the STUDENT table with the Students that have the same SECTIONID as the SECTION selected in the drop down menu above.
After the Student list has been populated (the user) clicks on a student name in the listbox/datagrid and this inserts that student into the CHECKEDIN table that has a datagrid/listbox associated with it.
This is a great project to practice connecting a database to Visual Studio 2008 .net and playing with the data that has been pulled in. You could use SQL instead of Access.

What I ended up doing is creating a custom action on commit that dynamically creates the link using Windows Scripting Host. Then on uninstall, removing the link.

but now that im looking at the data this is prolly only useful for simple data. Im wanting to seperate the data from queries into multiple boxes. Am i better off just manually having a connection to the database and running queries into arrays to sort the data?? The above method looks like im going to be trying to fight the databound stuff. There are two tables and the way the built in query builder is im starting to think its easier to write my own queries in variables or whatever.
Setup Works On One Computer, Not Another - Access Database
Jul 1, 2011I have created a setup using INNO which puts a Visual Basic 2010 Express program on the computer to update an Access database. It works on my Windows XP computer. On the user's computer, which is a Windows 7 computer, the Access database comes up as Read Only when opened. I get an "Operation must use an updateable query" error in the Visual Basic program when I try to create a record. The database has Read Only checked off in it's properties. But when you open it in Access 2010, it says Read Only at the top. (This computer has Access 2010. The database itself is in 2002-2003 format.) How can I get this database to be updateable on the user's computer? It works on my computer/does not say Read Only when opened in Access 2007.

Upon installation on a Windows 7 computer, Windows 7 is preventing it from writing data without changing the permission settings. It reads data but it doesn't write data. This problem doesn't happen in Windows XP. My question is: is there any way to make the Visual Basic .Net program write data to an Access database on Windows 7 from the setup without the user having to change permission settings?
