DB/Reporting :: VB - Database - Checkedlistbox - User Browses For And Opens A Dbf File
Oct 30, 2008
Here's what I'm attempting: The user browses for and opens a dbf file. The user is presented with a checkedlistbox which shows the column headers. The user then selects the columns they wish to run a report on. ex. total # of cells not empty, longest cell length, etc.
I'm to the point of populating the checkedlistbox with all of the columns shown but I'm unsure if the users selections are actually linked to my data and if they are how I go about isolating said selections for the reports. I have a feeling that my approach to populating the checkedlistbox is not the proper way for what I'm trying to accomplish.
Here is the code
Public Sub btnGetFile_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnGetFile.Click
Dim fileLookUp As New OpenFileDialog
I have a 'DataGrid' usercontrol on my simple little form and I press a button that opens a text file and populates the DataGrid like so,
A B C 1 2 3 3 4 4 3 1 3
Where A, B, and C are my column headers.
I also have a 'ListBox' on the form. What I would like to do is, allow the user to select one, two, or three rows (or all) in the datagrid, and press a button that will move the data from selected rows into my listbox (each row its own string in the list box).
I can populate the datagrib easy enough, but don't know how to access the cell data individually?
I am working on cinema booking system project in vb.net..I have to book seats in the cinema..I have created a file for seat reservation for every movie..The seating is such that there are 18 seats and in the file have written 0s and 1s indicating reserved and vacant seats respectively..User selects a movie from a combobox and the corresponding file opens..We have to change the color of those seats which are already booked to red. Here is my code but it doesnt work..
Private Sub ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles movies.SelectedIndexChanged Dim Seat As Button() = New Button() {Form4.Button1, Form4.Button2, Form4.Button3, Form4.Button4, Form4.Button5, Form4.Button6, Form4.Button7, Form4.Button8, Form4.Button9, Form4.Button10, Form4.Button11, Form4.Button12, Form4.Button13, Form4.Button14, Form4.Button15, Form4.Button16, Form4.Button17, Form4.Button18}
I have a single instance app that is working fine except for this strange (to me) issue.
The user could double click on FileA and my app opens and displays the file contents (the path of FileA has been passed as a parameter) No problem there. The problem is that if the user then double clicks on FileB and I read the parameter it still contains the path to FileA. What trick am i missing here?
(If i add a debug line that forces the code to be FileB's path the the app works correctly in terms of opening a new tab, reading the contents etc.) (vb.net 2010)
I am using VB.net 2003. I am working on a stand alone windows program that stores data in an Access database via ADO.net via MS jet 4.0 OLEDb. I have progressed to the point that I would now like to provide the end user the oportunity to back-up the data they have stored and re-install if they choose. I am envisioning a menu item for "maintenance" with sub-items for "back-up" and "restore"
I created an executable file of an application done in VB Express 2010 which connects to a Access 2010 database. When installling the executable file at one of the user's computer, the file is installed correctly, but it fail's when trying to connect to the database. It says that Microsoft Dataengine cannot open the database. The user's computer doesn't have Access installed, does it need to be installed? or can I install a framework or application to avoid installing Access at the user's computer?
i just want some opinnion or suggestions regarding database softwares. we are going to develop a system for 20 or less users, i am planning to use MYSQL community server as our database to lessen the budget for that system, i just want to know if it is ok to use that version.is there a big differece between mysql community server, enterprise server and MS SQL Server in terms of handling data i.e security, speed, etc...
Alright, let's try this again. I have an mdb file as a database in my program, I need this mdb file to be what my published program reads off of. Is there any way to have Visual Basic (2008 Express) not encode my mdb file to Example.mdb.deploy?
I am using the Mysql .NET connect and can connect to my database using my program. i want to be able to get a Users Password from the database using there user name
This is the query i want to use: "SELECT Password FROM staff WHERE Username = " & textbox1.text & " '". But i don't know how to run that query and to get it to store the Password as a variable
The SaveFileDialog that opens up while clicking the export button of the CrystalReportViewer by default filters the predefined file types. Is it possible to custom define which files to be filtered?
I have a Search form where the user can click a Button that opens up a rtb with every single word (12,800+) used in the King James Bible. Every word is Capitalized ("Thankful, Grateful", etc), so in my code, the user selects a word, then right-clicks and sends the word to the TextBoxSearch in lowercase. Now, if the RTBDisplay (where all search results go) is empty, then a msgbox pops up asking if the user would like to re-search the same word in Uppercase. If they click OK then the word in the TextBoxSearch (lets says: "thankful") is supposed to become "Thankful". But instead, the TextBoxSearch goes blank. I have tried many variations of code, and here is my latest (doesn't work):
If Me.RichTextBoxSearch.Text = "" Then MsgBox("Would you like to search the same word but in Uppercase?", CType(1, MsgBoxStyle), "Re-Search?") If CBool(MsgBoxResult.Ok) Then[code]....
Sitll teaching myself how database and all that works. Need someone to make this easy program for me so i can study it better. Here. Here's what im looking for: Load Database from Text File - read a file called stationsin.csv and add the records to the database pupulating the stationID, station name and the state fields, clear Database - delete all records from the database .Load Listbox from Database - clear and populate the listbox from the database.Listbox click event - populate the labels with the data from the database for that specific location.
Create a class called dbUpdt with the following functions: Constructor - accepts the file name of the database and stores it in a class variable. Opens the database and connection. Query - accepts an SQL command and executes it.MoreRecords - returns a boolean variable indicating if there are more records left in the dataset getField - accepts the name of the field and return the contents of the field from the current record close - closes the connection deleteAll - deletes all records in the database addRecord - accepts the table name, the key field name and the key field contents and adds a record to the database with just the key field filled in. setDBField - accepts the table name, the key field name, the key field contents, the field to be updated along with the field's contents and updates a single field within a single record.
how to run a .sql file stored somewhere on the c:/ drive through VB. Eg test.sql My code is as follows, I am able to retrive the data from the oracle database and store it as a string, but i need to be able to run a file:
Public Function GetDataALFA(ByVal strServerName) Dim tmpDataString As String : tmpDataString = "" Dim myConnection
I have a combo box field in my datagrid and when i go to edit the value, when i click on the drop down arrow, it selects the row on the first click and then on the second click it opens the drop down. My question is, is it possible to make it drop down on the first click.
I need a way to have 3 colums of checkboxes inside a checkedlistbox. I know i could do it with a panel, labels and checkboxes. But having them all in the control would be more convenient. I'm pretty sure there is no direct way of doing this, so i assume i need to create a user control. If you're not completely sure what i'm trying to create, i'm going for something that looks like this: [URL]
I am trying to import a text file to an access database in VB2008 express. The text file I am testing with is a csv file with 34,000 records. The problem is this takes 2 minutes to read through all this and write it to the database. The actual text file I will be using in production has over 800,000 records and this will take a ridiculous amount of time. I think I am doing something wrong. I have posted my code below. I am reading a record, parsing out the fields to an array, then creating an SQL statement to insert the record and executing it.
reader = New IO.StreamReader(fname) Do While reader.Peek() >= 0 linesread = linesread + 1
I'm using Visual Basic Express 2008 (VB.NEt). I've created a project which connects to a Microsoft Access Database (OLEDB) & displays the records using textboxes in the windows app.
I need to add a button which exports the database to a fixed length text file. Does anyone know the code I would use to do this?
I am using the following Select Statement to retrive data from my .csv file database:
Code: Dim comm As New OleDb.OleDbCommand("Select *, Left([Street Full Address], IIF(InStr(12,[Street Full Address],'-')>0, InStr([Street Full Address],'-')-1, Len([Street Full Address]))) as StreetFullAddress From " &
Trying to get a database into my Checkedlistbox. This is the code I have so far: Private Sub CheckDevices_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim connectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=N:DeviceList.accdb" Dim str_DeviceList_Select As String = "SELECT * FROM DeviceList" Dim myConnection As OleDbConnection Dim myCommand As OleDbCommand Dim myAdapter As OleDbDataAdapter Dim myDataSet As DataSet

So I have the dataset with database in it, but I am struggling to get it from the dataset into the Checkedlistbox. Could someone do some quick code for this?Secondaly, I also want to set the checkbox's by using a string of integers which will look like "0110100110". If the value is a 1, I will want the corresponding checkbox to be checked, eg, "0110100110" So I would take that one, and check the 8th checkbox down in the checkedlistbox... So if anyone if feeling really generous, could use a little help with this as well.
Ive got a CheckedListBox where I have a list of devices and a checkbox to tell me whether they are on or off. I want to be able to change the checkbox in the program of a specific device and then when I click submit, it to generate a string of numbers to tell me what boxes are checked (1 for on, 0 for off)Example: Boxes 1,3 and 7 are checked in the checkedlistbox, and there are 8 total, so the string outputed would be "10100010".
I need an application which opens a table from a database(in my project) in a Datagridview. Then it allows me to modify it and save the table. I managed to do all this but when I open the database in my project( with Ms Access) the data remains the same. Why is this happening?
I have all connections working and I am using this code to save:
Me.RegistrationTableAdapter.Update(Me.ContactsDataSet.Registration)I need a reply asap if it is not a problem.
I am brand new to VB. I am using VB 2010 Express. I have a MS Access database and can read & display the data. However, when I enter a line of code to manipulate the data I get a "read only" error message in the project editor. I have checked the file and directory structures from windows and the command prompt. I have even used the "attrib" command to make sure the file was not read only. Then I put the following code in the form and it dispaly the read only message.
Dim infoReader As System.IO.FileInfo infoReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFileInfo("C:zzz-devaccesswhitneywhitney.accdb") If infoReader.IsReadOnly = True Then MsgBox("File is readonly!") End If
I am using the VB 2010 Express DataSource to connect to the MS Access database and not a connection string in the program.
The code below opens a file in Example 1 and writes on another file only the lines that satisfy the condition If times > 4 to another file. What I want to do is illustrated in example 2
[code]...
t= 2 comes from Subtracting t= 11 - t= 9 from the script in example 1. I have scripts with thousands of lines every time the program should automatically subtract the next value with the previous one and write the result into a new file starting from t= 0
I am trying to convert VB6 to VB.Net, in VB6 my predecessor has used an open command which i presum creates a file or opens a file from the directory that it is told to look in, what is the .Net equivelent of this?
