I do not want ANY user, SQL Server or Windows authenticated, to access, read, write to, update, drop or take backups of this database, except this login 'Adel'. So my connection string looks very similar to:[code]What configurations should I make in the MS SQL Server Management Studio 2005 Express Edition to 'Adel' login, 'AC' database, and all other logins to accomplish this?Given the following:I do not own the server; my client owns the server. They have a domain set up (LAN network).They have ASP.NET applications running using other databases on the same server. Aug 5, 2008I am asked to write a front end program in VB 2005 (that will run in client computers which running on Win XP) to access an existing MySQL database running in Linux. It is not my preferred choice, but the user have the database and server working just as he wants it, and do not wish to change, at the same time I do not wish to change programming language. Is that even possible? Can we actually write VB 2005 programs that will run in client computers complete with NET framework 2.0 to access a Linux operating database?

Nov 10, 2009I am trying to import a text file to an access database in VB2008 express. The text file I am testing with is a csv file with 34,000 records. The problem is this takes 2 minutes to read through all this and write it to the database. The actual text file I will be using in production has over 800,000 records and this will take a ridiculous amount of time. I think I am doing something wrong. I have posted my code below. I am reading a record, parsing out the fields to an array, then creating an SQL statement to insert the record and executing it.

May 27, 2010converting a speadsheet into a proper data source. I have imported it in to a table called "B" in access 2007. The problem is that the data is spead out of multible columns and rows, looks like a crosstab query. I need to convert it back to its data. I could do it with UNION Queries but this would be unpractical due to the number of columns.I have created a public function in my module. But I am not sure on how to call it. I get the error:

I get errors on the statements following .saying that "Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Fields' accepts this number of Arguments". Access Database File Just Sat In A Folder On Employers Server?
Feb 11, 2012At the moment i have an access database file just sat in a folder on my employers server which every computer can see. We can all run an application i have done which we can add/update/delete records/rows on te access database.I was told that access can be temperamental if too many people are using it at once, and that i should look into changing it to a sql server database ? Can a sql database just sit independently like the access database and is it just similar code except for the connection ?

DB/Reporting :: Database - Access Denied To A Text File (since It's Stored In The Program Directory In The Program Files)
Sep 20, 2010I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?

Apr 21, 2008I want to move my programs and the database to another computer and hard-disks. It looks to me as though I nearly have to re-create the controls and rewrite some of the code to make it so the programs still work after the move. At least with ODBC all I would change was the DSN definitions external to the programs. Is there an easy way to move or rename a database without loads of work?

DB/Reporting :: Connect Database In Server From A Client Computer?
Feb 24, 2008I wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:
1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.
2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)
3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.
However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.

In many of my forms I'm gonna use DataGridViews to show data from the database, not an entire table but data based on manually built queries. So, I have few questions without answers, by now. Solutions or 1. I haven't decided how will I bring the database into the project: from the menu -> Add New Data Source, or within the code, at runtime. I still don't know which one's best or why.2. For example, if I select 3 columns, 5 rows, only Column 1 Row 1 is displayed. Someone mentioned something about EOF but I can't find EOF code for OleDB. Should I be using another type of connection?;

Upgrade Property - I need to use the Update Query for this. A PropertyName is selected from a list box and someone then clicks to upgrade a property.
Properties.HousesOwned should have it's value raised by 1 Where the player owns all 3 sets. The Houseprice should then be took off the Players Money.
Downgrade Property - I need to use the Update Query for this. A PropertyName is selected from a list box and someone then clicks to downgrade a property.
Properties.HousesOwned should have it's value lowered by 1 (until it gets to 0) Where the player owns all 3 sets. The Houseprice should then be added to the Players Money.

Dec 13, 2010I'm new to Visual Basic. I came across a random number generator tutorial. Got it working fine and then I thought, Is there a way to get it to access a database Here's the thing
1. Generate the random number.
2. looks at the database and finds the corresponding id number.
3. Takes the field for that number and enters it into a text field in the program.
So for example the number generated is 32. Then the program looks at the database and looks for id number 32. then takes the text in line 32 and enters it into a textbox in the program.Now I have my database and the program. But just can't seam to figure out how to get the two connected like I want. I have looked and searched but have found nothing like it I am using Visual Basic 2010 and Access 2007.
