DB/Reporting :: Restricting Access To SQL Server Database

Dec 8, 2009

I have developed a Windows Forms application using VB.NET and MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. My database name is 'AC'. I do not want ANY user, SQL Server or Windows authenticated, to access, read, write to, update, drop or take backups of this database, except this login 'Adel'. So my connection string looks very similar to:[code]What configurations should I make in the MS SQL Server Management Studio 2005 Express Edition to 'Adel' login, 'AC' database, and all other logins to accomplish this?Given the following:I do not own the server; my client owns the server. They have a domain set up (LAN network).They have ASP.NET applications running using other databases on the same server. However, these applications have nothing to do with my database 'AC' or login 'Adel'.Some of their applications do not specify 'User Id' in the connection string; they use 'Integrated Security=True'.

Note: I only develop applications for small businesses and a limited set of users. So what do you guys prefer and recommend?

DB/Reporting :: Can VB 2005 Front End Running In Win XP Access MySQL Database In Linux Server?

Aug 5, 2008

I am asked to write a front end program in VB 2005 (that will run in client computers which running on Win XP) to access an existing MySQL database running in Linux. It is not my preferred choice, but the user have the database and server working just as he wants it, and do not wish to change, at the same time I do not wish to change programming language. Is that even possible? Can we actually write VB 2005 programs that will run in client computers complete with NET framework 2.0 to access a Linux operating database?

Setup DataTableAdapters To Allow For Easy Code Change When Change Server Names?

Feb 20, 2012

I'm getting familiar now with using the Dataset Designer and how it makes for quick and easy updates and query of tables. I use to use the OleDB commands and leave the Connection String as a Global Constant so I can easily change it if the server name changes, or if we have to re-direct the .NET to another instance of the database.

But now that I use the Dataset designer I'm concerned that I maintain flexibility and support in the long run. how the Dataset designer works and where it stores it's connection string info? And how difficult that would be to update. It looks like I modify the App.config file, but I'm unfamiliar with this.

What am I getting myself into? It looks like a standard XML file. Is that it?

DB/Reporting :: Loading Is Due To SQL Server Itself

But if I use the same SqlClient. SQLdataAdaptor to insert record into DB again immidately, it will take shorter time to load. However, if I wait for 5-10mins, then use the same SqlClient.SQLdataAdaptor to insert record into DB again, it will take longer time to load again.Can anyone tell me this loading is due to the SQL Server itself / the VB.net?Can anyone suggest me a way to check the reason of this loading? DB/Reporting :: Changing An App From CE To SQL Server Express?

Oct 28, 2009

I started coding my first "real" stand-alone desktop application in VB 2008 Express. I was led into believing that using SQL Express Compact Edition was the thing to use for my database since it would reside on each PC (laptops) that I installed the program on. I created all my tables and about 6 forms and all was going well until I came to the point where I need to display a grid showing data from multiple tables using what i think is supposed to be a view. Now the problem is that CE doesnt allow views. Here are my questions:

1. Can I convert my CE database file into an SQL Server Express file?
2. Do I have to re-write all my forms that are using the database? I am planning on creating my SQL Server Express database with the same table names and the same field names, data types, etc.

DB/Reporting :: Creating A SQL Server DB Through VB Code

Jul 1, 2008

I'm trying to write code to create a new database and then create tables within the database.
I'm running into a strange problem right now, which is the fact that I was able to create a new database ok on either the regular SQL Server instance, or the SQLEXPRESS instance. However, when I attempted to create a table, I got an error message saying that there is already a table of the same name.

When I tried to connect to the new database via SQL Server Management Studio, I could see the database. However, there are no tables in it! So, theoretically, I'm creating a brand new blank DB, so there should not be anything in this DB, right? and I should be able to create any tables I want in it!

Here is the code that I have so far:
[code...]

I just have one simple form with a button on it. The click event on this button calls the CreateAllDBs() routine.

DB/Reporting :: DataGridView - Save On Change?

Oct 17, 2008

I have a datagrid bound to a datatable. The datatable will then be written to an xml file using the built in "WriteXML" function, which is sweet!

What I would like to do is update the table then overrite the existing XMl file when a cell value changes.

The problem is the "CellValueChanged" event is fired before changes are actually committed to the dataset. I do not want to use the "CellValidated" event because it will fire for each row when the file is forst loaded into the dataset and displayed in the datagrid.

Access 97 And Windows Server 2008 R2 Farm Server?

Oct 26, 2010

We are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines.We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.

DB/Reporting :: VB2003 And SQL Server 2005 Express?

Dec 18, 2008

I have just installed VB.NET 2003 and I am trying to manage some databases using SQL Server 2005 Express.When I try accessing the database via the data connection tab, I get the following message.

Quote: You have connected to a version of SQL Server later than SQL Server 2000. The version of Visual Studio or Access that you are using was released before the version of SQL Server to which you are connected. For this reason, you might encounter problems.

Please check with Microsoft to see if there is a service pack that you should apply to Visual Studio or Office in order to get support for the version of SQL Server to which you are connected.You can continue but any new object types might not be enumerated, and it will not be possible to save any objects or database diagrams that you create using the Visual Database Tools.I can not add tables or manage data fields. Does anyone know how to get the patch referred to in the message above? I can not find it via google or this forum.
