Connect To Sql Server Using Sql Authentication

Jan 4, 2010

I need to connect to a sql server as a specific user regardless of who is logged in on the pc where the program is running.

[Code]...

gives me "Login failed for user ACMEinvoicing" which is who I want to log in as. I'd think that the problem is the login except that I can right click SQL Server Management Studio and select Run As/The following user and enter ACMEinvoicing and password and it opens up allows me to connect to report server and shows me connect as ACMEinvoicing and allows me to run everything I need to. From within code how do I connect to the sql server reportserver as someone other than who is logged in?

TCPListener And Server - Authentication Process?

Mar 11, 2010

I am creating a simple program. (soon to be vastly complex) that is connecting to a server, and sending an authentication code to connect. I got the connection part, but what keeps breaking up is the method of authenticating. I have the entire authentication process in a while loop, so that it will keep going until it receives the authentication reply from the server (an OK-002938, or what ever client number the server decides.

This is my client code for the event:
Private Sub CONNECTSERVER_DoWork(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs) Handles CONNECTSERVER.DoWork
Try
If network_client.Connected = False Then
network_client.Client.Connect(My.Settings.service_address.ToString, My.Settings.service_port.ToString)
[Code] .....
The client side is flawless. But the server side, works, but it doesn't continue past storing the bytes into a container...

Access 97 And Windows Server 2008 R2 Farm Server?

Oct 26, 2010

We are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines.We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.

Sql Server - Overcome Double Authentication For Sp_linkedserver?

Jun 13, 2012

So we've set up a sp_linkedserver on SQL Server to connect to a remote Access database.Assume the path to this database is W:/breakfast/pancakes/secretPancakes/pancakeDB.accdb

We know the username and password to the actual database Password: allY0urPancakeAreBelongToUs!

The problem is, there is also authentication to get into the "secretPancakes" directory.

This authentication is Username: SuperChef Password: ilovesf00d

Also, is this where I would change these credentials to the credentials used to get into that folder right?

Retrieve List Of Services Running On Server?

Feb 2, 2012

I'm looking for a way to get details of the name and status of all services running on a service. I did use the following code:
Public Sub GetServices()
Dim localServices As ServiceController() = ServiceController.GetServices()
For Each service As ServiceController In localServices
If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(service.DisplayName) Then
dictservice(service.DisplayName) = New Service(service.DisplayName, service.ServiceName, service.Status.ToString)
End If
Next
End Sub
However, since I have packaged up my project as a WCF service, the System.ServiceProcess namespace I used cannot be used: Is there any other way I can retrieve the same details? Possibly through WMI?

Upgraded Our Job Server To Windows Server 2008?

Sep 2, 2009

We recently upgraded our job server to Windows Server 2008. We have jobs we run manually in a folder (c:Custom Programs). Some programs are console programs others are have a gui. This one program has a gui.It also has a progress bar that shows the progress of the job when you click the go button. Of course it spawns a thread to do the processing. This thread creates a log file to write errors and other things too.

The problem is when the program goes to create the log file an access not authorized error is thrown. I checked the permission on the folder. All users are allowed to create/edit/append/execute. Pretty much everything except take ownership. Also, there's nothing that denies anything. So I see no reason why this isn't working. We can get this to work by using the run as administrator option when we first run the program. However, we don't view this as unacceptable solution. My only thought is the spawned thread isn't getting the same permission set as the program. Am I correct or does something think it's something else.

When Copy Application To Server / 407 Proxy Authentication Required Error ALWAYS Comes Up

Oct 6, 2010

I have a console application created in VS2005, with a web reference created via WSDL.When I run on my local machine (and I have a browser up) I can access the web service fine (if a browser is not up I get the 407 error).I understand this,since my local client machine MUST go through the company proxy (I assume the proxy is resolved when I sign start the browser).When I copy the application to our server, the 407 proxy authentication required error ALWAYS comes up.The thing is, on the server all check boxes in internet options/connections/lan settings are NOT checked. i.e. the server DOES NOT go through a proxy.I installed wireshark to help track down the problem and it shows that when i access the web service wpad is being called and our proxy server is being called.is there a .net configuration that allows me to say "ignore the proxy".I have already tried variations on the system.net section of the app.config file: [code]It seems that no matter what we do (including changing registry settings) this application ALWAYS tries to go through a proxy.

ComboBox Dropdown Server 2003 Terminal Services?

Dec 22, 2011

I have built an application in VB 2010 on my Windows 7 Pro desktop. I have a particular combo box with a datasource that is dynamically populated, depending on certain values entered by the user; it may or may not have any records in the datasource. When I run/install the application on my desktop, the combo box acts normal, if I click the dropdown button and the datasource contains no records, the combobox will show a single blank beneath the combobox (to indicate no records). When I perform the same action on server 2003, the combobox DOES NOT show a blank row, it does nothing! It act's like it's broken.

Passing Current User Credentials From IIS Server To Reporting Services Sever?

Aug 8, 2011

Question: How to pass the current user on the web page from the IIS server to the Reporting Services Server.I have seen this topic throughout the forums. However, the answers are always hard code the user in web.config - use a login window and pass those fields to the IReportServercredentials or create one user for everyone.

When the person who asks the question comes back and says that doesn't work there is not answer.Does anyone know how to do this? I have VS 2008 ( and 2010 ) I am sending the info to SSRS 2005 server.As anyone using SSRS knows that if the reports have parameters and udf behind the report to inspect who the user is, then you have to pass that user to the report.

[Code]...

I have been programming steady with vb.net for a year now and was all happy about using the List view and email etc from web sites. I even used a reportviewer to pdf to email attach, cool. Now I feel quite lost and realize I have not been using properties, etc. That is my background.

Asp.net - Send HTTP Authentication Credentials To A Non .NET WebService?

Sep 3, 2009

i'm doing everything by the book, but the .NET client is simply not sending an authentication header when making requests to my (PHP) SOAP Web Service. I have verified this by logging the raw post data at the PHP end of things and .NET never sends any auth headers.This is the code I am running before making calls on my ExampleWebService Web Service:

ExampleWebService.PreAuthenticate = true;
NetworkCredential myCred = new NetworkCredential("myusername","mypassword");
CredentialCache myCache = new CredentialCache();

[code]....

As I understand it, PreAuthenticate should force the sending of my HTTP Basic Auth Credentials on every request regardless of challenge. Does this only work with IIS hosted services?

Web Services - .net SOAP Webservice Client "Unmarshalling Error: Unexpected Element?

Jul 28, 2011

I am building a client in VB.net for calling webservices methods from a partner organisation.[URL]../system.web.services.protocols.soaphttpclientprotocol%28v=VS.71%29.aspx because I can't get it to work using the Web References feature of Visual Studio 2010 (when I try to do that it turns the methods from the WSDL into classes).I have created a proxy class and can instantiate an object of that class no problem.

However, when I try to call a method which requires arguments I get this error:

Unmarshalling Error: unexpected element (uri:"http://api.service.apimember.emailvision.com/", local:"key"). Expected elements are <{}key>,<{}login>,<{}pwd> Does anyone have any idea why this might be? (If it's helpful I can post my code and the location of the WSDL.) (P.S. I can get the whole thing to work fine in PHP using ZF Soap classes, but for various reasons I need to get it to work using .Net)

Edit to add: I have used Wireshark to examine the outgoing and incoming SOAP message to compare them with the messages being sent via SoapUI, where it all works fine.What this has shown is that my VB client is sending a message where the namespace of the web service I am trying to access is declared as an attribute of the method, and not in the soap:envelope attributes.

Setup DataTableAdapters To Allow For Easy Code Change When Change Server Names?

Feb 20, 2012

I'm getting familiar now with using the Dataset Designer and how it makes for quick and easy updates and query of tables. I use to use the OleDB commands and leave the Connection String as a Global Constant so I can easily change it if the server name changes, or if we have to re-direct the .NET to another instance of the database.

But now that I use the Dataset designer I'm concerned that I maintain flexibility and support in the long run. how the Dataset designer works and where it stores it's connection string info? And how difficult that would be to update. It looks like I modify the App.config file, but I'm unfamiliar with this.

What am I getting myself into? It looks like a standard XML file. Is that it?
