Hopefully this question will have an easy answer; I've tried searching for the answer myself, but I don't know what to search for (I don't know what you would call this).
Is there a way to compare a string to see if it matches more than 1 value?

I have the following code in vb.net that calculates the amount before tax was applied:
Public Shared Function CalculateRateBeforeTax(ByVal rate As Decimal, ByVal tax As Decimal) As Decimal
Dim base As Decimal = rate / (1 + (tax / 100.0))
Return Math.Round(base,2)[code]....
I put the above scenarios into some unit tests using c# and using the nunit testing framework. The first scenario passes, but the other fails and I am not sure how I can get it to pass. Here is are my tests:
[TestFixture]
class TaxTests
{[code].....
As I said before, the first test passes, but the results of the other tests are:
Second Test expected 305.1600000000000003d But was: 305.1643192488263d
Third Test expected 95.54999999999997 But was: 95.55555555555555557d

I have to deploy my VB.NET application developed in VB.NET and Visual Studio 2005. The customer is using SQL Server 2008, while the application is being built against SQL Server 2000.I received the following error against SQL Server 2008:An explicit value for identity column in 'Outgoing_Invoice' table can only be specified when column list is used and Identity Insert is ON.Here is my query for inserting data in two tables:
Dim cmd1 As New SqlCommand("Insert into Stock values(@invoice_no, @gate_pass, @exp_no, @clm_no, @category, @item_name, @weight, @units_case, 0, 0, @crtns_removed, @pieces_removed, 0, 0, @date_added, @date_removed, @inc_total_price, @out_total_price,[code]....
The error message is shows at cmd1.executenonquery. Both these tables Stock and Outgoing_Invoice have an identity column labelled serial before @invoice.The problem only arose when insert was tried on SQL Server 2008. When run against SQL Server 2000, it works as expected.What can be the possible reason for this issue and how can it be resolved?

I cant seem to think this morning.I am trying to compare version strings. These are scraped off a website...
examples:
4.5.0.55
4.2.2.128
4.5.0.37
5.0.0.713
how do i make sure I am grabbing the highest version?right now I have it checking the length, if less than 9 .. add a zero. then remove the .'s and convert to an integer. then just check. I know thats not the best and most accurate.

I'll use this image to illustrate my question.
[URL]
Basically, how would I go about it searching through the listbox for "String 4" and then a messagebox coming up?
But, if it doesn't find that string an error message comes up.

I'm trying to compare the selected item in a combo box to the items in a collection in search of a match. There is guaranteed to be a match because the combo box was originally populated from the same collection. This is the code I'm using:
[Code]....
This code works for other collections but not for this one. In this case, the loop stops after the first iteration, regardless of what's selected in the combo box. I have confirmed that the collection contains the correct data and that there is a match for the combo box options. The only difference between this instance and other instances is that the values in the collection and in the combo box contain a double quote at the end. I suspect this is what's causing the error. (To be clear, there is no error message, it's simply not returning the correct value.) I've tried various string compare methods but none of them have fixed the problem.

I have two array list same size, depending on the information gathered by previous functions. The size of the arrays range from 2 - 45 in length, both arrays always have the same length. I am trying to match one string in one array to another string in the second array. When they match then add Item to List.
Here is my
Do Until i = Arraylenght
info = Replace(myAL(s), " ", "")
SortedArrayList(m) = Replace(SortedArrayList(m), " ", "")
SortedLine = Split(SortedArrayList(m), "Price=")
If myAL(s).Contains(SortedLine(1)) Then
[Code] .....
This code works up to an array of not more then 4 in lenght, when working larger size array then 4, the minute it get to 5 I get this Error:
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index

I have two lists of strings. One is a list of all students in a class and the other is a list of students in the class that completed an assignment. The two lists are part:whole. So we have two loops for copying elements and displaying them in a list box for only the students who did submit.
Dim f As Integer
f = 0
Dim h As Integer
h = 0
While (usersinclass.Count > f)
h = 0
While (usersidthatsubmittedassingments.Count > h)
[Code] .....
What I need is the remaining portion of the "usersinclass" list. (i.e. The students who did not submit). I tried an Else statement BUT with nested loops, every element is guaranteed not to match at least once, so I was getting elements that shouldn't be there. So, is there anyway to run the given lists against each other again to pull out the remaining students? (preferably with no repeats).

I need to connect to a sql server as a specific user regardless of who is logged in on the pc where the program is running.
[Code]...
gives me "Login failed for user ACMEinvoicing" which is who I want to log in as. I'd think that the problem is the login except that I can right click SQL Server Management Studio and select Run As/The following user and enter ACMEinvoicing and password and it opens up allows me to connect to report server and shows me connect as ACMEinvoicing and allows me to run everything I need to. From within code how do I connect to the sql server reportserver as someone other than who is logged in?

I am creating a simple program. (soon to be vastly complex) that is connecting to a server, and sending an authentication code to connect. I got the connection part, but what keeps breaking up is the method of authenticating. I have the entire authentication process in a while loop, so that it will keep going until it receives the authentication reply from the server (an OK-002938, or what ever client number the server decides.
This is my client code for the event:
Private Sub CONNECTSERVER_DoWork(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs) Handles CONNECTSERVER.DoWork
Try
If network_client.Connected = False Then
network_client.Client.Connect(My.Settings.service_address.ToString, My.Settings.service_port.ToString)
[Code] .....
The client side is flawless. But the server side, works, but it doesn't continue past storing the bytes into a container...

So we've set up a sp_linkedserver on SQL Server to connect to a remote Access database.Assume the path to this database is W:/breakfast/pancakes/secretPancakes/pancakeDB.accdb
We know the username and password to the actual database Password: allY0urPancakeAreBelongToUs!
The problem is, there is also authentication to get into the "secretPancakes" directory.
This authentication is Username: SuperChef Password: ilovesf00d
[Code]...
Also, is this where I would change these credentials to the credentials used to get into that folder right?

I have a console application created in VS2005, with a web reference created via WSDL.When I run on my local machine (and I have a browser up) I can access the web service fine (if a browser is not up I get the 407 error).I understand this,since my local client machine MUST go through the company proxy (I assume the proxy is resolved when I sign start the browser).When I copy the application to our server, the 407 proxy authentication required error ALWAYS comes up.The thing is, on the server all check boxes in internet options/connections/lan settings are NOT checked. i.e. the server DOES NOT go through a proxy.I installed wireshark to help track down the problem and it shows that when i access the web service wpad is being called and our proxy server is being called.is there a .net configuration that allows me to say "ignore the proxy".I have already tried variations on the system.net section of the app.config file: [code]It seems that no matter what we do (including changing registry settings) this application ALWAYS tries to go through a proxy.

I'm migrating from VB6 to VB.NET, in hence my questions below:
I have to write a function that returns array of strings.
How can I initiate it to empty array? I need it since I have to check if it's empty array after it returns from this function.
Is list of arrays better for this purpose? If I use a list - Is it empty when it firstly defined? How can I check it it's empty?

Say I have a List(Of Tag) with Tag being an object. I'm creating a program in VB.Net that heavily interacts with 2 large MSSQL databases. I do not know a ton of vb and I'm fairly new, but I would assume just having the connection strings in the code and releasing the program it would be quite easy for someone to reverse the program and get my connection info? correct me if I'm wrong. My question is I'm wondering if there is a safer way to use a connection string in my program. Would I just have to encrypt my app? Create a module or dll?

I've just started ASP.NET for real, and I was wondering if it is possible to use connection strings from Data Sources instead of hard-coding them. I've added my connection in Data Sources and it works, and I can also drag a table to a page in design mode, but I can't figure out how to access it in code. Here's what I get when I drag it in:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"
EmptyDataText="There are no data records to display.">[code].....
