VS 2008 Connecting To SQL Server 2005?

Sep 18, 2011

I've been doing a self studies on visual basic and I thought I've learned a lot but still I realized that I still have something more to learn. I want to learn the basic fundamentals on SQL for its database operations such as adding, editing, and deleting records. I would say I'm new to SQL because as far as I've used VB, I've been using LINQ(Language Integrated Queries) for database operation. I've been doing a lot of research online on how to start and connect to SQL but I find hard to make it on my own cause all I've got is an error during runtime.

I have a VB.Net project that I am running from a local server and I need to use the credentials the user is currently logged in with to upload a file to a folder I create on a SharePoint site on the same domain. I can get it to upload if I specify the credentials but it will not work with system.net.credentialcache.defaultcredentials. It just gives me 3 empty strings and I get a 401 unauthorized error. I have seen a few threads that say you cannot use it with Windows Forms Applications. Is this true? Here is my code:

Connect To Sql Server Using Sql Authentication

Jan 4, 2010

I need to connect to a sql server as a specific user regardless of who is logged in on the pc where the program is running.

[Code]...

gives me "Login failed for user ACMEinvoicing" which is who I want to log in as. I'd think that the problem is the login except that I can right click SQL Server Management Studio and select Run As/The following user and enter ACMEinvoicing and password and it opens up allows me to connect to report server and shows me connect as ACMEinvoicing and allows me to run everything I need to. From within code how do I connect to the sql server reportserver as someone other than who is logged in?

TCPListener And Server - Authentication Process?

Mar 11, 2010

I am creating a simple program. (soon to be vastly complex) that is connecting to a server, and sending an authentication code to connect. I got the connection part, but what keeps breaking up is the method of authenticating. I have the entire authentication process in a while loop, so that it will keep going until it receives the authentication reply from the server (an OK-002938, or what ever client number the server decides.

This is my client code for the event:
Private Sub CONNECTSERVER_DoWork(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs) Handles CONNECTSERVER.DoWork
Try
If network_client.Connected = False Then
network_client.Client.Connect(My.Settings.service_address.ToString, My.Settings.service_port.ToString)
[Code] .....
The client side is flawless. But the server side, works, but it doesn't continue past storing the bytes into a container...

Use Windows Authentication In WPF?

Oct 5, 2009

how to use Windows Authentication in a WPF app. I wouldn't have thought that it would be any different than in any non-WPF app, but it seems that it is. I want to go into my project Properties -> Application and ensure that Windows Authentication is on, but that option is not available in a WPF app (as the following document confirms).

[URL]

If I ignore all that and just look at My.User.Name (VB), it is empty. This tells me that somehow Windows Authentication is not enabled. My plan is to use a PrincipalPermission attribute to restrict access to certain parts of my app (or perhaps the entire app, by applying it to Application_Startup()).

Access 97 And Windows Server 2008 R2 Farm Server?

Oct 26, 2010

We are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines. We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.
