View 6 RepliesI have designed a project that connects to MsSql Server 2008. The local machine that I use to create the software is able to connect to the database but when I try connect from another machine remotely, It doesn't find the server.This is the connection string I'm using Dim Connection As New SqlConnection("Server=MyServer-PC;Database=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True")

I was expecting this to be easy but it seems that it is not... all I want to do is loop through all drives on a computer and if the drive is a network drive then get the UNC path that this network drive maps to. Simples. I was expecting to just do this:
vb.net
For Each drv In IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives()
If drv.DriveType = IO.DriveType.Network Then
MessageBox.Show(drv.RootDirectory.ToString)
End If
Next

My application checks a XML file to see if the current version number is the same as the version number in a XML doc. If not it gets and error. Is there a way of replacing the exe with the new one stored on a network drive without using click once?

View 1 RepliesI have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
I have installed Visual Basic 2008 express edition, but I didn't get SQL server. Therefore, I installed SQL server 2008 separately, and it works fine..But I want to use the SQL server in Visual Basic, but it doesn't show up when i click Add New Item. Is there some way of connecting VB to SQL server?

Not sure also of the DataAdaptor declaration as in previous versions i used many years ago it was recordset.I would like to use a trusted connection to connect.

I've been doing a self studies on visual basic and I thought I've learned a lot but still I realized that I still have something more to learn. I want to learn the basic fundamentals on SQL for its database operations such as adding,editing, and deleting records. I would say I'm new to SQL because as far as I've used VB, I've been using LINQ(Language Integrated Queries) for database operation. I've been doing a lot of research online on how to start and connect to SQL but I find hard to make it on my own cause all I've got is an error during runtime.

View 1 RepliesI Have a batch file in a server in my network. I maped that shared folder (that batch file exist in it) every time that I want to run that batch file first I should have to connect to that network drive(with username and password) How can I do it in my code . I want to connect to that network drive by code in my form_load. I test codes below but it dose'nt work.
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(Princip alPolicy.WindowsPrincipal)
Dim idnt As New WindowsIdentity(username, password)
Dim context As WindowsImpersonationContext = idnt.Impersonate
I am using some like following code to get UNC path of drive letter.
Dim query As New System.Management.ObjectQuery("select * from Win32_LogicalDisk")
Using searcher As New System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher(Query)
'loops for all drives on system
For Each Mgmt As System.Management.ManagementObject In searcher.Get()
And it was working but now it is giving error. Below is error with stack trace
{"Specified cast is not valid."}
at System.Management.ThreadDispatch.Start()
at System.Management.ManagementScope.Initialize()
at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Initialize()
at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Get()
I also want to know alternative way to get unc path of drive that is also not depend on windows API. As there is a class driveinfo to get all drives (including network) on system. Is there any class that also provide complete or unc path information of Drive.
I've followed the instructions found at the letter (albeit also adding the parameters to pass a username and password), but have had no success connecting to a network drive that requires authentication to access.
View 8 RepliesI'm working on a program that is used as a tool to quickly search & Open CAD drawings on our network. I have it working for the most part, but it is very slow. Right now I have an ini file with the path to the Directory I want to search for Example "G:" I think the reason this is so slow, is because there are other folders in this directory that don't need to be searched. My idea is to add all of the paths I want the program to search in the ini file, but I don't know how I will have it search through this using vb code
want my ini file to look like this
G:A
G:B
G:C
G:E
So directory D would not be searched by the program because its not in the list.
MyCode
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim PathReader As IO.StreamReader
PathReader = IO.File.OpenText("C:ISOExplorerPath.ini")

i have a network drive mapped to z each time i turn on the pc that drive is disconnected but i can see the z letter and if i click they return, there is some way to active that letter/drive but vb.net?
View 1 RepliesIm able to access the internet on my Phone. I made a small app that lets me get to my database hosted by Godaddy. The problem is, unless I have my phone plugged into my computer it says Im not connected to the network. I can show my code if needed, but that has nothing to do with it because the application works fine as long as its hooked to my computer. Any idea on establishing a connection I guess? Im not sure why its not since Im able to access the internet, Im not sure why connecting to the computer makes it work.
