I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:

I work as an IT Administrator and manage a few Servers, Routers, VPN Connections over a number if locations. What I am wanting to do is create a vb.net app that will go out and ping say every 2-5mins each of the servers, routers, that are listed and then shows beside the Hostname a Green Circle which means online and if its a Red Circle its offline, and the screen refreshes if their is a problem or a device / service comes back online.
Then if its offline email a particular email address showing the hostname of either the server or router and which location saying its offline. If possible to make it easier to change the devices to show possible have a txt file or something like that with the Hostname, IP Address, Location.

Error message receiving A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) The project is written in VB.Net 2008. Production server uses SQL 2008, Dev Server uses SQL 2000. The application has been built and published.
Prod Connection String: strCN = "server=SGMAGNCPQ03.;Initial Catalog=APO_Tax;Integrated Security=True"
Dev Connection String: strCN = "server=S04423711940995.;Initial Catalog=APO_Tax;Integrated Security=True"
The Problem: When I change the connect string from dev back to prod and try to run my app, I get the above error message. If I reboot everything works fine but if I switch the connect string from prod to dev and try to go back to prod, I'm back to the same problem.

I have an application I have developed which works great on individual PC's. However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing. If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer. What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?

I need to solve the following problem:- Create a server application which generates a random number every second- Have any number of client applications access the current random number through a dll (associated to the server) at anytime How would I do this? Anyone has a prototype VB.Net code for the server which does this kind of thing? I'm pretty sure I know how to write the client code.

im trying to make a little application that will read an fps server chat log.the chat logs are plain text files that come in the format :
Billy says: yada yada yada
Bob says: mooo
on certain key phrases (which will be user defined) it will reply (also user defined) now my problems. (there are many). most of which stem from not actually knowing any syntax for this language.firstly im suffering something of a huge brain fart with trying to read only the last line. i have it currently reading though the whole file and counting line numbers but then i just hit a wall . what do i do with the line number? i cant find a simple way to stop and come then have it check again after a couple of seconds for a new line? allegedly filestream can seek the end of the file however all my attempts to do anything with filestream have met with absolutle failure.
this is what i currently have for this, and it works to some degree
FileReader = New IO.StreamReader(OpenFileDialog1.FileName)
Do While FileReader.Peek <> -1
txtln = FileReader.ReadLine()
[code]....
i have the remnants of both the options ive considered in there, and its almost doing what i need it to . i just have no idea what to put into the last section to make it wait for another line to be added to the text file, or use the linenumber to make it check back from there for more lines. i cant seem to find a wait/sleep/pause so i just dont know.
my other problem is one of file access. i am aware of some properties of filestream that allow for a shared read/write access for other programs . however as i stated before . i have had no success even getting this simple peice of code to work with filestream.

I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

I've been tasked with redeveloping a tool that accesses mailboxes in Exchange, extracts the new emails (and their metadata) and then saves the info in DB. Even a brief perusal of the code shows that it could use some serious re-writing (no use of DirectoryServices for example).
However, from what I can make out the code loads the mailbox being accessed into Outlook and iterates through the mails. Is there a way to access the emails directly? I should point out that, unfortunately, we do not have access to the Exchange servers. They are managed by another department.

I have a project on VS 2005 which was running fine with exchange 2003, now the customer migrated to 2010 and my app. is failing when tries to create mailbox. My app. is console based and its running on windows 2003 and 2.0 .net framework. Exchange 2010 is running on a W2K8 and 3.5 framework. I guess a good option would be to develop a webservice (with VS 2010 for example) but not sure if EWS is able create mailboxes.

I'd like to start off by saying I'm not really a programmer just a sysadmin who likes to dabble (so simple answers would be nice ;) ),I've created a webapp that's used by some less technical folk to do basic administration tasks(User provisioning through our IDM, Updating passwords, Disabling accounts, Editing user details, etc)there's also a couple of exchange functions that are currently handled by exporting a CSV that a separate powershell script processes.I'm trying to bring these powershell functions into the application to reduce complexity but I'm having some trouble.
When I execute the "Add-MailboxPermission" command I get no return output (nor does it apply the change) at all, unless I put no parameters,in which case it throws the expected missing parameters exception (Not scientific but proves it's loading the exchange plugin fine and executing):
private sub cmdMbxFullAccess(sender as object, e as eventargs)
Dim psRunSpaceConf As RunspaceConfiguration = RunspaceConfiguration.Create()
Dim psConfException As PSSnapInException[code].....
If however I issue a simpler command like "Get-Host | Out-String" I get return output as expected. Thus far I have checked that the user context it's running under has the correct permissions and tried executing the command from the powershell prompt on that server to make sure that there isn't some other external issue I am overlooking.how I can further debug this, it's like the command disappears into the ether never to be heard from again!

I want to use my SQL Server DB over a network. I have setup server client applications. The thing is for my current DB, I need to give it to server administrator who attaches the DB to SQLExpress instance and only then my network computers can access that.My question is, is there any way that my vb.net application could attach this DB through code at runtime, and DB gets all rights that are necessary to access it over the network?
I can attach DB using Create procedure but for this I need to know the sa password. Is there any way that I could achieve the same goal without sa passord and sa intervention? My only purpose is to enable my DB to be accessible over the network with all read /Write rights.

I have a program where I need to be able to access files from an administrative share on a remote machine where the username is administrator and there is no password. I want to be able to access these files without the user getting prompted to input the username and password.
I have searched around and found some references to WMI - but as far as I can tell, WMI is mainly for managing the remote machine and not necessarily for file access (?). Also, some information gathered about WMI leads me to believe that it may be disabled on some machines or not installed on others (?). Since this program is meant to go out to a diverse customer base, I need to make sure that I cover as many angles as possible to ensure this program will run on as many machines as possible.

All i am trying to do is read and write files to a shared folder on a network in visual basic (VS 2010). I can go to the folder through windows without a problem and without being prompted for a password. However when i try to do it through visual basic, it cant find the directory. Here is my small snippet of code that i (hope) is telling me that the program cannot connect to the folder. [code] Are there any known issues with VS 2010 that may cause this? Maybe something else in my code that could have an effect? This is in my form_load event though, so it is literally one of the first things that runs.

My ASP.NET 4.0 Web App is unable to access Network Printers, while debugging on VS 2010. It can access local printers. Seems like it may be a permissions issue. Since VS2010 Debugging runs on ASP.NET Development Server, it must be running under the account I used to log into Windows, right? Does that user need to be added as an Admin in that printers users? Is there any account that I can impersonate to get this working?

I'm breaking my head over the next problem. I have 2 applications (client/terminal). the client reads out the webcam and generates an image. This image needs to be send to the terminal which can accept multiple clients. At the terminal all received images are placed in an ordered panel. The purpose of this application is to monitor multiple webcams. What i can't get to work is how to send it on the client side and receive on the terminal side.

Greetings, I'm a little bit confused about SQL Server Compact behavior.I have a small app that uses a small sdf file located on a network share. The problem is that while the app itself is working perfectly well using the connection string that points the location of the sdf file on a network drive, when I try to open the same sdf using the Server Explorer I get this error:
SQL Server Compact does not support opening database files on a network share.Obviously, if the app IS working it does indeed support network shares, then why Server Explorer cannot open it?
I copied the database file to a local drive but it's not very convenient. What might be the problem?
