I have designed a project that connects to MsSql Server 2008. The local machine that I use to create the software is able to connect to the database but when I try connect from another machine remotely, It doesn't find the server.This is the connection string I'm using Dim Connection As New SqlConnection("Server=MyServer-PC;Database=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True")

I created a project in vb.net and I'm able to connect to an Mssql server remotely using the host machine name. However, I can't connect using the IP Address. This is my connection String.

View 6 RepliesI want my vb.net application to access the sql database from another network segment.I have two network segment, the application program that I made is in 192.168.7.xx segment and the SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition is in 192.168.1.xx segment but that application program cannot access the sql server unless I make them in the same segment.
View 1 Repliesi have problem with connecting Vb.Net with MSSQL database i have a shared host for windows server and i have to insert each ip trying to connect with the MSSQL database through my program and its impossible to insert each ip to the Whitelist so while i was thinking for a solution an idea came to me that i can change the ip address of any user for the program to a unique ip such as ( 174.162.45.23 ) and i whitelist this ip i do this or a solution for this problem because i cant continue my project with this problem

View 4 RepliesI was creating an enrollment system for my Thesis, and my adviser told me that I must have a Code in my program that Synchronize database from client and server so that if the terminal connection is "Up" the data will go to the server and if the connection is "Down" the data will go to the installed server on the the local machine. and every 20 mins or 30 mins will sync the database.

The above code was originally written in VS2003 to retrieve and display data from Access 03 database, and runs without error. In VS2010, this code is throwing a "Command Text was not set for the Command Object" error and points to the last line as the source of the error.
Im able to access the internet on my Phone. I made a small app that lets me get to my database hosted by Godaddy. The problem is, unless I have my phone plugged into my computer it says Im not connected to the network. I can show my code if needed, but that has nothing to do with it because the application works fine as long as its hooked to my computer. Any idea on establishing a connection I guess? Im not sure why its not since Im able to access the internet, Im not sure why connecting to the computer makes it work.

In last thread . JM advise me " I dont have to change information at client and i only connect string to correct server name but i tried and it is error........" created account of window for user in server ...... -> it is still error.

In a batch file that logs a user in to a network from a laptop connecting by VPN, the command window displays both the user's login name and the password. Is there some way I can prevent the password from being displayed? How do you hide characters in a command window?

However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing.If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer.What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?

The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

Read a value from a registry key and then display the results in a text box. It will also connect and search for a specific log file on a server. I understand how to read the files. I'm just not sure how to connect to a machine remotely if I have valid credentials. There seems to be sever ways to accomplish this. I want the most efficient way using vb2008.

1. my database is in one computer. this computer is not actually a database server. it is just a computer. and the database is created in local drive (e:) of the computer. when i develop the application. so, if i am writing an application for the computer where the database is created. i can give the location of the database as my connection string (is there any better way to do this. because there might be problems, if the database location is changed). how can i connect to the database from the other computers in the same network?
2. this is my second question. i have a table which stores customer details (customer id is primary key and its auto number). one customer can have many hobbies. so i took it as a separate table (customer ID as the foreign key of that table) . when i enter data, i use single form to enter the customer details and their hobbies. so when i insert the record into two tables, will the second table take the new customer ID automatically into dat tables customer ID which is a foreign key.
