May 5, 2010i am using vb .net and importing excel sheet to ms access. i am doing this work very well. but i want that when a user select the excel file to import, than user must asked for the data types that he want for the different fields, by default when user imports the excel file it assign the text data type to text filed such as name and number data type to numeric field such as roll_no. but i want that user select the data type according to his need.
code that i use is to import file is given below:

Exporting An Excel Worksheet To An Access Table?
Jun 14, 2010What I need to get done here is not a GUI, like the SQL Import and Export Wizard, which can be run from the SQL (2000) Enterprise Manager only, but a code that I can run from within the Visual Basic For Applications IDE from Microsoft Excel 2003, maybe in the form of a module, class or userform or a combination of all three. The best that I have come across so far, was a class that first checks if the worksheet is in a database formattable condition, then creates the database, if it does not exist, a table and then transfers the data from the worksheet to the table.
I have tried the Access 2003 TransferSpreadsheet method, but that does not solve my purpose, because I want to move the data from Excel to Access, starting from the creation of the database itself.

Import An Excel WorkSheet Into A Datatable?
May 13, 2010I have been asked to create import functionality in my application. I am getting an excel worksheet as input. The worksheet has column headers followed by data. The users want to simply select an xls file from their system, click upload and the tool deletes the table in the database and adds this new data.
I thought the best way would be too bring the data into a datatable object and do a foeach for every row in the datatable insert row by row into the db.

Nov 10, 2009I am trying to import a text file to an access database in VB2008 express. The text file I am testing with is a csv file with 34,000 records. The problem is this takes 2 minutes to read through all this and write it to the database. The actual text file I will be using in production has over 800,000 records and this will take a ridiculous amount of time. I think I am doing something wrong. I have posted my code below. I am reading a record, parsing out the fields to an array, then creating an SQL statement to insert the record and executing it.

Jul 5, 2010I have software for STOCK and SALES that can give me an Excel price list, I wanna write a small web app that will enable users to check prices, I don't have any access to that software's database, so I wanna import that Excel data (one worksheet, 5 columns, almost 10000 rows) into an MS SQL database table, keep in mind that the price list will change few time a month so I need to re-import that price list once its been updated.

The first time i ran the code, it caused no error but no records where loaded into the table. The second time it causes the OleDbException "Table 'TEMP' already exists." The text file is comma delimited and it has exactly the same number of columns of the TEMP table.

Oct 29, 2008My company is making thousands of products now, every one of them have several test report in excel files. I am thinking about putting all of them into a microsoft sql database,
1. Is it wise to do so? I think a sql database is a lot easier to manage.
2. Can I save or convert the excel file as one data in a table? How could I do it? I only see a image type for data type. Surely I expect to retrieve the excel file through ASP.Net website if necessary.oh, some additional info, every excel file is not big, but it contains pictures inside sometimes.
