IDE :: Dataset Code Behind Datatable.ColumnChanging Event Firing / But Dataset.HasChanges Property Not True

Jan 28, 2010

I have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

DataSet.HasChanges Not Firing Unless Leave Row

Sep 21, 2009

When you edit a cell in a datagrid, how can you "commit" that change if you are still in that current cell? Right now, the DataSet.HasChanges property isn't true UNTIL you leave the current cell. If you don't click on another row, then the property is not true yet. How can I tell it that it is true without physically clicking on another cell?

Directory.exists(UNCSpec) Always Returns False?

Jun 23, 2010

I am developing a Windows Service (Yes, windows service) using VB2008 and am having trouble determining whether a remote folder exists. The IF in question goes something like this:

If NOT system.io.directory.exists(strFolder) then
System.io.directory.createdirectory(strFolder)
End if

The problem is that the above test (excluding the NOT) always returns False, regardless of whether the folder exists or not. So, even if the folder exists, the next statement tries to create an already existing folder which does not go well.

The weird part(s) - after some tests

The system.io.directory.exists() works well when I type it in the immediate window for both local and network resources
It also works well when it is within a normal app (that is, not a service) regardless of whether it is local or network resource
The exists() method when in the service works well if the folder being tested is on the local machine, but fails when it is remote network resource, regardless of whether it is a true UNC or a mapped drive. It is not user's rights, as I have tested with both my own user and the localsystem user and have tested with network resources where I do have access rights. When I try to debug, the PC starts playing the Twilight Zone Theme (Ok, I am kidding about this one )Doing some searching I found that others are complaining about the same behavior, but no suitable answer has been found.

Function Returns True But Then It Becomes False Upon Assignment

Dec 7, 2010

I call a function (SaveChanges) to access my business / data layer and save any changes to fields that are marked as an Add or Update and are marked to be processed. This function used to work fine up until 60+ minutes ago. What is happening is that suddenly the function is returning false. After debugging through the code, when it hits Return the local boolean is set as True but when it gets back to the calling method (and uses the return value) it is now False. As I said I went through line by line and debugged it, then I added a watch to it. The funny part is that there is one spot that sets the Boolean to false, and when I put a breakpoint on that spot it is never reached.

Here is the function:
Private Function SaveChanges() As Boolean
Dim blnSaved As Boolean = True
Dim saveableRows As List(Of DataRow) = (From d As DataRow In _listData.Tables(0).Rows _
Where Not d("Marking") = "Duplicate" _
And d("Process") = True _

Game Programming :: Function Always Returns False?

Oct 3, 2009

[VB.Net 2008 Express Edition]I have a 2D array of Integers called Map(0 to 79, 0 to 79)In this array I store IDs for tiles to be loaded later.I'm trying to write a module to generate a random dungeon every time it starts by making a room 10x10 tiles in the middle, picking a wall, making a hallway from that wall, and adding a room to the end of that hallway. From there it picks a random wall anywhere in the map, adds a hallway and a room, and repeats until the number of floor tiles is high enough [400 atm] The problem is that when the rooms and hallways are made, it first runs a function to return whether or not that space is empty. The problem is that even when I know for a fact the space is empty, it returns false. I don't understand why. Here's the Clear function.

Code:
Public Function Clear(ByVal Top As Integer, ByVal Left As Integer, ByVal Height As Integer, ByVal Width As Integer) As Boolean
'Returns whether a rectangle is empty
'used to loop through a rectangle of the map array
Dim introw As Integer

.net - HttpContext.Current.Request.LogonUserIdentity.IsAuthenticated Returns False Even Though The User Has Successfully Logged In?

Apr 10, 2011

2003I've implemented Forms Authentication on one particular subfolder on one of my sites. My code works perfectly on my development machine, but there is a slight problem on the live server. If you browse to the admin subfolder, if you are not authenticated, you will be redirected to the login page. The Master Page footer also contains a link to the login page; when the user logs in, that link is supposed to change to a link to the admin page:

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim link As HtmlAnchor = FindControlIterative(Me, "Login")
If HttpContext.Current.Request.LogonUserIdentity.IsAuthenticated Then

[code]....

This works fine on my dev PC, but on the live server, IsAuthenticated() returns False, and thus the Login link is not replaced by the Admin link. However, if browse to the admin subfolder, I can access the content fine; there is no redirection to the login page.

C# - Relation Table In DataSet Always Returns 0 Rows

Jul 19, 2010

I have created a strongly typed dataset in the VS 2005 Dataset Designer. There are two tables that relates to each other in a one to many relationship: Claim and ClaimDetail. The designer automatically creates a function GetClaimDetailRows which returns all ClaimDetailRows for a ClaimRow. Why is this Array's length always 0? Because ClaimDetail contains more than 40 Million rows, i did'nt fill it before i call GetClaimDetailRows but had configured it's selectcommand that it takes a parameter idData to fill only the related records. But that seems not to work because the ClaimDetail-Datatable is empty.

The automatically generated function in the ClaimRow-Class which returns all related ClaimDetailRows:
Public Function GetClaimDetailRows() As ClaimDetailRow()
If (Me.Table.ChildRelations("Claim_ClaimDetail") Is Nothing) Then
Return New ClaimDetailRow(-1) {}
Else
Return CType(MyBase.GetChildRows(Me.Table.ChildRelations("Claim_ClaimDetail")),ClaimDetailRow())
End If
End Function

When debugging I see that it jumps into the else block but returns 0 rows. Do I have to fill the Claimdetail-Datatable first(ClearBeforeFill=True) for each Claim? But then I don't need to use this function anymore. I now fill the Datatable(ClearBeforeFill=True)before i call the Child-function and it works. But I don't understand why it could not throw an exception(optionally) when I try to acess a child-relation without having that datatable being filled(at least with 0 rows). Instead of that it returns 0 rows what can be correct or incorrect and is difficult to detect.

Test If A Collection Of DataRow() HasChanges

Apr 12, 2012

I use the Select method on my typed dataset to return an Array of DataRows.' get settings for the DataGridView from the dataset and be sure to sort the returned rows by the display index

Is there a way to test if any of the DataRows in the Array have changes? I already know about DataSet.HasChanges method, but in my procedure I want to run some code on the DataRow() Array only if one of the rows have changes. In my example below I get a subset of DataRows from my DataSet. If only one DataRow in the DataSet has been modified my For Each...Loop will run 10 times.

For i As Integer = 0 To 10 ' get settings for the DataGridView from the dataset and be sure to sort the returned rows by the display index

if rows where added to or deleted from the dataset then the DisplayIndexes need to be reassigned
If Me.ds.HasChanges Then

I only want it to run 1 time. For example,

For i As Integer = 0 To 10 ' get settings for the DataGridView from the dataset and be sure to sort the returned rows by the display index

Null Check Always Returns Null, If Removed Returns Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Jun 24, 2010

I have some code which gets child items for a menu via the GetChildren function which takes a list of menuData: Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))

For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
If menuData.Children IsNot Nothing Then
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
End If
Next

If I check if menudata.children isnot nothing, it always is nothing because the GetChildren function is yet to run (providing the child items, which do exist). If I remove this check and just have this code:

Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))

For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
Next

Then I am presented with a Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))

.net - Combine Multiple Dataset Columns To One Dataset?

May 19, 2010

I have multiple datasets that I would like to combine into one. There is a common ID field that can be associated to each row. Calling Merge on the dataset will add additional rows to the dataset, but I would like to combine the additional columns. There are too many fields to do this in one query and therefore would make it unmanageable. Each individual query would be able to handle ordering to ensure the data is placed in the correct row.

For Example lets say I have two queries resulting in two datasets:

SELECT ID, colA, colB
SELECT colC, colD

The resulting dataset would look like

ID colA colB colC colD
1 a b c d
2 e f g h

Repointing A Report Dataset To A Test Dataset

Feb 18, 2011

ok, I've finally got my test database issues sorted out, however now I need to actually modify my existing report to add the two new fields from my test database. I have made a copy of the report so that I am not modifying the original. I have deleted the two old fields and now want to add my two new fields in there. In the Field explorer window, I see an object called "dataset1" and when I expand it, it is using a view that includes fields from the table that I added my two new fields to.

The problem I see here is that I have gone in and modified the view to include these two new fields in my test database - but again, they are not showing up as selectable fields here. I am just assuming that "dataset1" is somehow pointing to the live database again and that I need to change the datasource location. In my solution explorer, I see an object called "dataset1.xsd" but the properties of that do not tell me much about where it is actually pointing to...
