Deployment :: Get The System.security.securityexception Message
Mar 31, 2009
I have made an simple application (.exe). When i run this program local on my machine it works fine. When i run it from an server i get the system.security.securityexception message.
I am trying trite code that will copy information from an infopath document to a word document that is being used as a template containing only a header and footer. The only reason for the code is becausthe footer (not optional) is too long to be handled by Infopath (which has a 255 character limit) and word can hold the full footer. Following the guidance on
Public Sub CTRL1_5_Clicked(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As ClickedEventArgs) Dim appWord As Word.Application Dim wrdDoc As Word.Document
Trying to read key "HKLMSOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsU pdateAU" value "AUOptions" and get the following : A first chance exception of type 'System.Security.SecurityException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Error occurs in ReadRegistry key SOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate AU : Requested registry access is not allowed. This occurs in my vb.net application when application is run under an account called OPER in the USERS group. The application :
1/is on my PC's hard drive, its not a web app or on a network share
2/is launched via a desktop click
3/ has a manifest specifying executionlevel "AsInvoker"
It does not occur when the Application is run as an Administrator. It does not occur if I read the value with a non .NET program when logged in as OPER whch makes me think it is a .NET problem not a registry permissions problem. Examining "Effective Permissions" shows that my OPER login has query value permission.I need the application to be able to read the key like the non .NET application while running at USERS level.
I wrote a program that is a system tray app that has no user interface. The issue is that when you shutdown, log off, or restart the PC the app does not shutdown and the user has the "End Now" message box pop up.
The only thing running on this app is that it is listening to a port for communication.
I do not have any code in the form closing event as that is what I want just to close.
I have now spent a long time trying to figure out how to fix this problem, hoping someone here could give me some hints What I'm trying to do: I need a way to save mail items to a folder on the computer What I have done so far: I created a component, where you could drag a mail item from Outlook on to. This component then saves this mail item to a folder on the computer
I have a Visual Basic.Net Windows Forms application to which I am considering adding the WebBrowser control. I'm assuming that the PC's on which this application will ultimately be deployed/installed will have the latest Windows (XP, Vista, or 7) updates, a firewall, and an Internet security suite installed/running.
With this deployment environment in mind, does the WebBrowser control make my application or the deployment PC vulnerable to any significant security risks? Are there any programming issues that should be addressed to eliminate potential security risks when using the WebBrowser control?
Out of 70 users of my application 2 are getting the following message when they to run the application... That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers. The reason for the error is that by default .net applications run from a network location have limited permissions. You need to use caspol.exe to add the network folder where your application is being run from to the Trusted Zone. If you do a search on these forums you will find plenty examples of how to do this. It is fairly simple. It will have to be done on every machine that will be running the application and a simple cmd file can be made to do this. The only difference is that I've asked our service desk to install the application to the local C drive which I believe they did.
When I open VB projects in Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to view a form view designer I have started getting "File Download - Security Warning" Message prompting a .tmp file in the location of my project. If I close all open designers and rebuild the project I am then able to open the designers OK.I saw a suggestion to 'restore file associations' in Visual Studio and tried this but with no success.
i am getting the error "System.security.permissions.securitypermission" when running the VB application in another machine. i have put the .exe file in the common path and i ran it my machine and it is working fine, but when i tried to run it in the different machine i am getting the error. Can anyone help me out in fixing this error.
I realize AesCryptoServiceProvider is part of .NET framework 3.5. I do have 3.5 installed. However, (I can't believe I don't know this), how can I utilized Framework 3.5 so I can access the AesCryptoServiceProvider? Currently, it points to 2.0.
I'm working on a basic file encryption by using the Imports System.Security.Cryptography.I was thinking of putting a password as a final security measure.Would i have to store the password inside the file or how will this work?
I'm working with a vb.net 2005 project that i converted from vb 6.0 last year. It's working fine in windows xp, but on vista and windows 7 i get an error saying 'Insufficient security permissions to set the system time.' Can you think of any way to replicate this error on windows xp? I'm trying to get a windows 7 box setup at work but I was wondering if there was anything I could try with xp in the meantime.
I want to add a feature to my trial version of the application. After first activation, I want to make it limited to 90 days. But I am concerned about user's changing the date of system hence deceiving my application. Is there any possibility to make it fool proof in a way that even if user takes the calender back, application expires after 90 days of first activation? First activation date has been saved in the database.
I've written 'File_Reformat_Code.vb' using the "Console Application" template. The program uses SQL to read an Oracle database and then generates fixed-length records for an outside vendor.
It runs fine on my PC and on a file server that's running Windows 2000. But, it gives the following error when I try to run it on a server that's using a Novell operating system. Are their security settings in my program that need to be changed, and, if so, how would I do it? Likewise, for possible settings on the Novell box?
Imports System.Security.Cryptography Imports System.IO Imports System.Text 'SymmCrypto is a wrapper of System.Security.Cryptography.SymmetricAlgorithm

Most of the time this works as it should, but sometimes it encodes a string and the gives an error on decoding it. The error message is: Invalid length for a Base-64 char array.
As i understand. mac pc dun support exe files. If i have complied my system as exe how to allow it to run in MAC?? or is there any other format that i could convert to so that i can run my program in MAC?
I am sending a DDE message to a client using System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(item) . However, before the message is actually sent, I would like to get the message coded where if the item="Ask" then item=Ask (string variable) and so on. The code is:
Protected Overrides Function OnRequest(ByVal conversation As DdeConversation, ByVal item As String, ByVal format As Integer) As RequestResult ' Return data to the client only if the format is CF_TEXT
I am trying to mimic the results of some C code that uses the OpenSSL library using the system.security.crytography library in the .net 3.5 world, and I can't seem to get it right. part of the issue is my understanding of crytography in general.
Here's what is supposed to happen:
I send a request for authentication to a device. It returns a challenge digest, which I then need to sign with a known key and return The device returns a "success" or "Fail" message.I have the following code snippet that I am trying to "copy":
we are making our program in other computer it runs, without errors, but then when we transfer the program to another computer it has an error that says
An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
I am trying to get this: System.Deployment.Application.ApplicationDeployment.CurrentDeployment.IsFirstRun.But the application namespace is not there. I just see System.Deployment.Internal. The object browser, however, shows me all the properties and methods of that namespace, but my app can't see it.?
I wrote a custom assembly for SSRS that returns a jpeg for the background image in a textbox on the report.I followed all instructions on msdn in regards to security but i still receive the same error.
I have converted a Windows Forms VS2003 application to VS2005 and then to VS2008. It includes a setup project for deploying on the client computer (the regular installer, not click once). It works fine when I run it on my computer, either in VS or if I install using the setup installer. But when I install it on the client computer and then try to run it, I immediately get a System.InvalidOperation exception. I put in debug code before my code but it fails before it gets to any of my code. Both computers are XP. The client comptuter actually has VS2003, though it is not used.
I have tried it with either the 2.0 framework or the 3.5 framework (and included those as prerequisities) but neither makes a difference (and I did set that in the Launch conditions, as well as in the Advanced Compile Options). The application uses CrytalReports for VS.
I don't think I can run JIT debugging on the user computer due to permission issues. Are there any other debugging things I can try to narrow this down or has anyone encountered this.
I have the following code under a button labeled "Exit" for exiting my application. Code:Application.Exit()It has been working fine. I added a reference to System.Deployment and the compiler suddenly doesn't like Application.Exit(). Can I not use Application.Exit() and have a ref to System.Deployment at the same time? Upate: I got it. I used the Object Browser and found "System.Windows.Forms.Application.Exit" which works with System.Deployment referenced
