The default installation of my setup project is as follows:

The problem is PC in Europe don't have a "Program Files" folder, it's in a different language.When I remove [ProgramFilesFolder] from the setup program, the installation doesn't work. I would like to install the application in C:AppFolder,

I know this is accomplished through the 'Installation Folder Selection' dialog, but I want the user to be able to select a drive only, not the entire path.
My question is how do I capture what drive the user selected from the 'Installation Folder Selection' dialog and use that drive letter to tack on to my 'DefaultLocation' variable?

I have application developed in vb.net 2005 with sql server database and also used crystal report in it. I have make the setup files using deployment wizard. Now the problem is that when I install the setup files, it work on some pcs while didnt run on some others. Framework 2.0 is in its prerequisites which I install before running setup. When I try to see error message, it gives server time out.

I have a windows project completed and am using an MDI with a help menu.So now I'm working with a click once deployment.When the user clicks help, it should load an .HTM file, but instead, when installed on the client it gets a "page cannot be displayed error".
I created the file in word. Saved as an .HTM. along with it came the images folder. I placed it in the bin/debug folder. I've made sure all the images and the .HTM files are set to Build Action = content and Copy Always. These files are copied out to the deployment website. It shows as "required(auto)" under appication settings, publish. Everything else in the deployment works nicely, including Crystal Reports and Powerpacks.So what is going wrong with this?The help is a windows form with a browser control on it and the following code.Note that the Catch on the Try doesnt kick in either on the client.

View 10 RepliesI am really confused! My program doesn't work if I don't have Visual Studio here in my PC. To test it I have uninstalled Visual Studio. But my program doesn't work though Flash Player is present there (I have used Flash animation in the first form).
To be more sure about it I have installed Flash. But it's not working! That means the Flash animation file (.swf) is not making a problem! It needs support from Visual Studio to start. Doesn't it mean that some files are not attached with a setup file as a result it needs Visual Studio to run? Let me tell you how I create a setup file of my program.

If I use it, it works since I'm an admin but if someone else use it, I got "The system cannot find the file specified."Is there any other program I can use that can impersonate, I've already tried xcmd.exe but it doesm't work either.
Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?
I have a application that I deployed to web server. Users go to "publish.htm" deployment web page to install my vb.net application. Where is the application installed? I don't think it is installed under "Program Files" like others.

I have complied my vb.net 2.0 application using innosetup last month and installed it successful but after that i changed icon in my application and complied again. On windows vista machine i tried uninstall old version and installed new version. But the desktop and startmenu shows old icon. Does it mean uninstall did not removed the old icon ? It works fine when server response is detected but when there is no connection or there is no server respone the program starts to crash and doesn't work, so i have to break the debuggind process.
My company has an application that until now has been distributed as exe-file together with lots of dlls. I am about to make an installtion program for this application, but there is one big problem. The database can be both access and SQL, the user decides by what he/she writes in the connection string in the .config file. I know how to insert a custom action in the installtion program to enable to let the user chosse this during installtion, but I don't know how to include the database in the project, especially since it can be both access and SQL.

The email needs to contain the link and commandline parameters so that the user can clik on the link and the app will open the correct form, with the item to be updated, already loaded. Click Once installs the app under the users directory ("Documents nd setting\%USERNAME%Start MenuPrograms\%AppName%..."), so, the email has to contain the user name as part of the path.
- How can click once be configured so that the instalation is in the program files directory to avoid having to add the username as path of the path?

I have one tool which we developed on visual studio 2010. there are basically two parts of my project, one is UI part which i wrote in VB and algorithm part which is in C++ on back end. When we compile C++ part it creates a .dll which is used by my front end VB program.
Now my problem is little weird since i am compiling and deploying this tool on windows xp machine but some of the users are using windows 7 64 bit machines and after running the program for about 5-10 minutes, it crashes on windows 7 with following error

i am completely clue less for this error since this program works fine on xp but doesn't work on windows 7.
I have a vb.net application . I have added references of Ms Excel into the application.In my machine both vs and ms office are installed
Now I move my code to another machine where only vs was installed and not ms office . When I run the code from vs it works perfactly.
Now I make installer. I install it on my machine and it works
I also install it on another machine where ms office not installed and it does not work .
my question is why it is working when I am running from code and not when I am running from Installed shortcut ?
and should I need to install ms office also on the machine to run the application from Installation. ?
I need help changing the default installation directory for a deployment package installer. The application's default directory is currently: [ProgramFiles][Manufacturer][ProductName].
What would I change this to, so that I can install the software directly on the root drive; Such as 'C:ManufacturerProductName'?
