Deployment Projet - Start Menu Icon Doesn't Run Program
Jun 30, 2009
What must I add to the deployment project so that when the user clicks Start>All Programs>My icon, my program runs. Now the explorer comes up pointing to the application directory.
I'm working on a program that allows me to edit XML data in a DataGridView. I have most everything working but I don't like my current TreeView Structure.I load the XML data into a DataSet and edit it there, so that is what I'd prefer to base my TreeView on. I've tried a few things such as..
[code]...
What I'd really like to have is a tree view that shows the Parent Child objects nested. I'm not sure exactly how to accomplish that in this case...
I've built a couple of Apps successfully, but having published them to a Network Folder, Non-Admin Users can't install them themselves because the Install attempts to create an Entry in the Start Menu. There may be other Security issues (I need 4 of the permissions included if I publish it as a Partial Trust Applications, which I think affect this) after this point that I'm not aware of, but yeah, it fails when trying to create a Start Menu item -
+ Access to the path 'C:Documents and SettingsJameOStart MenuProgramsMynas' is denied.
I think excluding the right is just part of the SOE, but is there some way I can create this and have it NOT create a Start Menu item, haven't been able to find any?
I am really confused! My program doesn't work if I don't have Visual Studio here in my PC. To test it I have uninstalled Visual Studio. But my program doesn't work though Flash Player is present there (I have used Flash animation in the first form).
To be more sure about it I have installed Flash. But it's not working! That means the Flash animation file (.swf) is not making a problem! It needs support from Visual Studio to start. Doesn't it mean that some files are not attached with a setup file as a result it needs Visual Studio to run? Let me tell you how I create a setup file of my program.
CODE:
When I click on the icon of my program it shows the error message
CODE:
Reporting details: This error report includes information regarding the condition of WindowsApplication1. When the problem occurred the operating system version and computer hardware is use; your Digital Product ID, which could be used to identify your license; and the Internet Protocol(IP) anddress of your computer.
The default installation of my setup project is as follows:
[ProgramFilesFolder][Manufacturer][ProductName]
The problem is PC in Europe don't have a "Program Files" folder, it's in a different language. When I remove [ProgramFilesFolder] from the setup program, the installation doesn't work. I would like to install the application in C:AppFolder,
I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
i want to design a new program that should start with windows and its icon should appear at the toolbar the idea is when i click on the icon a rectangular forum should appear. my question is that: what is the best tool or control should i use? should i use the blank project of windows application or there is special project for that.
my program has a tray icon and i want it to show up in the system tray. so i went into my windows notification area and set it to show icon for my app. But when my app update to a new version with clickonce, it will think its a new app and i have to set it again. Is there a way that it will treat all new version as the same program and i dont have to keep setting it?
I'm trying to teach myself how to create a Random Number Generator in Visual Basic 2008 using a menu system and I'm having difficulty with the following:
If I type in a number above 100, I don't get a message appearing saying that the number that I typed is too high.I don't know what I need to code to start a new game. How do I get messages to show up when both pressing the "Check Me" button and using the "Give Me the Number" option to say whether the answer is correct or too high or too low.[code]...
I'm trying to get my context menu appear in my tasktray, while the tray appears the menu doesnt when i right click. Here is all my code associated with my task tray:
I have a vb.net 2008 application which has its corresponding icon. The icon shows correctly except in the taskbar when the "small icon" setting is on.
My vb.net project includes a .ico file which when I see in the IDE includes 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and 256x256 bitmaps, in 4, 24 and 32 bits, also 3 .png images in 256x256 32 bits each.
I made the icon myself simply using a 64x64 bitmap and then converting it to .ico, and assigning it to the application in the project properties. I thought windows would use and escalate the corresponding image, it shows even in the file explorer properly in the small icon form, but not in the taskbar.
I cannot find a way to make a program that I write make a shortcut in the start menu for all users. My final goal is to make an MSI and deploy it in group policy to all users on a computers OU. Is this possible?
I have a problem with installation in Vista. I have complied my vb.net 2.0 application using innosetup last month and installed it successful but after that i changed icon in my application and complied again. On windows vista machine i tried uninstall old version and installed new version. But the desktop and startmenu shows old icon. Does it mean uninstall did not removed the old icon ? It works fine with windows xp.
I have added my own icon to my application's window title bars, but the Package & Deployment function uses the Visual Basic icom for entries in the Start Programs menu.
I've created my first Visual Studio (2010) app. It's a simple, single form, single exe app. I set the application icon in Project Properties and built the app. When I view the exe file in Windows Explorer the small icon displays but when I copy the exe file to my Windows 7 desktop I get the default exe icon instead of the icon I've specified. If I copy the ico file to the desktop the picture displays and when I create a shortcut to the exe file and specify my ico as the icon it also displays.
I'm using v2008 Standard Edition deployment Setup1. In the Properties, it seems I have to declare the manufacturer and this results in a deployment path such as: "C:Program Files TOSHIBA MyAppFolder" when the setup CD I created is used. I really want C:Program FilesMyAppFolder as the path. I'd also like to put an icon on the desktop and create a folder in My Documents that can contain two txt files as part of the deployment. I'm stuck as to how to edit the package. Are these options possible?
I have a icon for my application that I set in the project properties window there is a little drop down box to browse to the icon location. While debugging everything is good. Once I build the app and place it on a PC and manually start the app all is good. My app starts with windows and now every time the program goes to start I get an error that the icon cannot be found in the DocumentandSettingUSERNAME folder. So the question is do I have to place my app icon in this folder? In design I have the icon in the binDebug folder and that is were I point to in the Project properties page. I am using VS 2008 VB.net.
I'm having problems with deploying a simple VB2008 Express program in that it sometimes deploys OK and on other PCs it doesn't. I'm assuming that the variability lies in the software already on the destination PC but can't detect any patternI'm specifying prerequisites as .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and PowerPacks 1.2My latest attempt produces code 1603 when trying to install 3.5 SP1.I'm wondering if Framework 3.5 needs to be installed before 3.5 SP1 can be installed. The log file is available if needed
I have a windows project completed and am using an MDI with a help menu.So now I'm working with a click once deployment. When the user clicks help, it should load an .HTM file, but instead, when installed on the client it gets a "page cannot be displayed error".
I created the file in word. Saved as an .HTM. along with it came the images folder. I placed it in the bin/debug folder. I've made sure all the images and the .HTM files are set to Build Action = content and Copy Always. These files are copied out to the deployment website. It shows as "required(auto)" under appication settings, publish. Everything else in the deployment works nicely, including Crystal Reports and Powerpacks. So what is going wrong with this? The help is a windows form with a browser control on it and the following code.Note that the Catch on the Try doesnt kick in either on the client.
Private Sub Help_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'change mouse pointer to hourglass Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
I have absolutely no clue why my notify icon will not appear. I use notifyicon1.visible = true on the form's load event, but it seems to not be working. I have tried every single thing possible. Does anyone know what is going on???"When the going gets tough, the tough get Chuck Norris"
I added the icon in my forms project etc. But when i go to view the project after build, when i click on it the icon does not appear. and the shortcut doesn't have the icon.
My vb app uses an icon which is 128x128, which looks fine on the desktop. But when viewed in a folder with View set to Extra Large Icons its size doesn't change - it is too small (smaller than 128x128). Any ideas how I can rectify this?
I have the code below to access Folder when i right click any folder in windows explorer, it works. My question is i want to add icon to the context menu name like winzip or winrar [code]...
in vb6 I wrote a program that had a context menu attached to the systray icon, and using an array I was able to create a group of menu items that if you clicked on one of them it became checked but unchecked the rest of the items, I can't seem to find a way of doing this in vb2008,
i want to exctract a icon from a procces and put it in a menu strip.i got this as procces code
For Each p As Process In Process.GetProcesses If Not p.MainWindowTitle = Nothing Then MenuStrip1.Items.Add(p.ProcessName.ToLower icon:= "code to exctract icon from the process)[code]....
I am using Visual Basic .Net 2005. While using /win32icon as a compiler option, it gives an error that the icon file can't be found. I found out that it works in C# but gives error in VB.
