View 1 RepliesI've create a VB2008 app that upon clicking the applications Start button it creates an icon in the taskbar that is visible to the user upon creation, it also shows a balloon tip at the time of creation. This all works great when the program starts but once the balloon tip timeout value has elaped, the icon, in Windows 7, disappears from the visible portion of the taskbar and becomes hidden, which is only visible if the user shows the hidden icons.
My question is this...... In the VB2008 program is there any way to set the behavior of the icon so that it remains visible on the taskbar instead of allowing the icon to become hidden?
The original design of the program was to get an environmental variable, display the value of that variable in the balloontip, hide the form and then check every 10 minutes for a change in that environmental variable. Once the form was hidden the user could see that the program was running by the presence of the icon in the taskbar and if they hovered over the icon it would display the current value of the external variable. Also if the user wanted to return the form to it's full size all they had to do was click on the taskbar icon. With Windows 7 if I hide the form and the icon is not visible in the taskbar because it too is also hiddem this may create a problem for the user as they may not even be aware that Windows 7 hides the icon. So....Is there anyway to insure that the icon remains in the Windows 7 taskbar or is this a case where I need to re-evaluate my program design?
I want to have a NotifyIcon in the system tray that when clicked, opens a context menu on the NotifyIcon with several options that open different forms.
I have read I need to use a ContextMenu and after Google'ing and trying out various code I can't seem to get it working
I have created a test app that contains a NotifyIcon and two ContextMenuStrip components.[code]...

In the form load to "Initialise" the NotifyIcon it then works fine when made visibleinvisible by code in the OnRegChanged event.
I have a program which puts an icon in the notification area and has a menu associated with it available by right clicking on the icon. I want the menu items to be selected by single left clicks but I also want the user to be able to single left click on the icon itself to do some other functionality.
Here's the problem - the single click on the menu first fires the notifyicon1_click() routine and then the menuitem1_click() routine. How do I know in the notifyicon1_click() whether it has been called from a menu click or a click on the icon itself?
the following piece of test code duplicates the problem
Imports System
Imports System.Drawing
Imports System.Windows.Forms

I'm working on a program that allows me to edit XML data in a DataGridView. I have most everything working but I don't like my current TreeView Structure.I load the XML data into a DataSet and edit it there, so that is what I'd prefer to base my TreeView on. I've tried a few things such as..

What I'd really like to have is a tree view that shows the Parent Child objects nested. I'm not sure exactly how to accomplish that in this case...

View 1 RepliesThis context menu is pops up where the user right clicks inside a dataGridView
When adding the items the VB code is
Dim m As New ContextMenu()
m.MenuItems.Add(New MenuItem("Disassociate *A* Device"))
m.MenuItems.Add(New MenuItem("Purge Device Assosciations"))
Is there no simple way to reference a resource to add an icon to said menuItems?

The problem is that I'm not sure how to reference a specific icon location in a icon collection in a dll.Is this possible with Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon and shell32.dll?

View 3 RepliesI have a program which when you press a button it minimises to a notifyicon in the system tray then you right click to bring up a contextmenu which allows it to be maximised again. What I want to do is add a shortcut, ctrl+shift+P for example so when that's pressed the program maximises again. But at the moment the only shortcut I can get to work involves right clicking the notifyicon before it works?
View 4 RepliesSimply saying I've added an Notify Icon to my project and then added context menu showing up when the left mouse button is pressed. The problem is that with the context menu some blank form is showing in the taskbar. There is no such form within the project.Does anyone know why it may be happening or how to get rid of the effect? I might add that I have other context menu attached for mouse right click button and it works fine, no blank forms and such showing on the taskbar it's just the left mouse button that works that way.Here is the code that I am using to show the menu:(the visible state to false is necessary for the other menus not to pop up with the one i want... unless anyone knows better method)
Private Sub NotifyIcon_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles NotifyIcon.Click
If e.Button = MouseButtons.Right Then
[code].....
why when I am Closing the program by clicking on the X button, the NotifyIcon did not closed? it just stay there until I move my mouse over it....

View 4 RepliesI currently have the following code but I would like to get away from going to a physical location. If I have the icon as a resource, how can I programatically add the icon? I don't want to use the form's designer to do this.
Sub Form1_Load()
Dim ico As New System.Drawing.Icon("C:Resourcesicon.ico")
Me.Icon = ico
End Sub
My application icon looks ugly-like a paper and i would like to change it to something like globe icon or any suitable image.Am programming using visual studio 2005 and the program is written in vb.net.
