Determine If Outlook Appointment Opened As Single Occurrence Or Series?
Feb 27, 2012
I'm building an Outlook add-in in Visual Studio 2010, using VSTO with VB.net, to sync Outlook Calendar data with an internal, proprietary Calendar. Our users want to be able to open a recurring appointment in Outlook, send the Appointment details and have the internal calendar update with the recurring appointment details. I actually have code in place that works just fine for creating recurring appointments and single appointments. The problem is that I can see no difference (when viewing the AppointmentItem or RecurrenceItem members) between a single occurrence of the series being opened, or if the entire series has been opened; all the data is the same, all the functions have the same result. I can see there's the difference in menu bars, but I don't even see a way to detect that difference.

I am using VB.Net and EWS Managed API to create appointments in Exchange 2010. When i call the "Save" method, an appointment is also created in the "Deleted Items" folder in the Outlook. Why is it the appointment is created in the "Deleted Items" folder? How do i avoid the appointment created in the "Deleted Items" folder? I use below code to save an appointment in the Outlook Calendar:

My mailbox regularly gets emails from people wanting to promote their events. Usually the subject line looks like this:
fwd: come to *TMC* meeting this weekend, <5/19/2012 @ 1300 >
I need a script to read the date, then make an appointment on my outlook calendar, using that date, time and term (TMC) as the meeting title. So it should make an appointment on 5/19/2012 at 1pm, called "TMC meeting"All appointments are 2 hours by default.I used The identifiers "*" and "<>" as an example, and can be changed to be whatever, what is important is that the meeting gets on my calendar with the correct title.

I am using this code:
Dim Session As Redemption.RDOSession
Session = CType(CreateObject("Redemption.RDOSession"), Redemption.RDOSession)
Session.Logon()
Dim appt As Redemption.RDOAppointmentItem = CType(Session.GetDefaultFolder(Redemption.rdoDefaultFolders.olFolderCalendar).Items.Add, Redemption.RDOAppointmentItem)
To create an appointment, send it as a meeting request and save it as an appointment on my calendar. However, I want to be able to save the GUID of the appointment so my sync routine doesn't recreate it (since I don't have the GUID saved.)

I've tried searching this forum for an answer to my problem with no luck. I've set my program to allow multiple instances of it to run. Is it possible for each instance of it to determine if it was the first, 2nd, 3rd, etc to be opened? It would be very useful if for example if the program has been opened a 2nd time I would like to be able to load a different set of parameters for certain things for the 2nd instance. The same with the 3rd instance.

Since it will be run by the user I don't want the user to have to do anything but send the IT department the log file it creates.
What I want to do is see if a folder on the network can be opened successfully. I do not want to ping it, but actually open it and see if it loads. I can do this for a website by retrieving the http status code, but I can't find any references to something similar for explorer.exe. Here is a basic flowchart of this part of the program:
ping server --yes--> access \server_namefolder
--no--> access \server_IPfolder
--no--> Authentication Issue
--yes--> DNS Issue
Note also that just checking authentication won't work because it could also be a DNS problem. I guess I could check them both, but I would rather do it this way if possible (and I don't know how to go about checking either one)

There are these 19 bytes (I am looking for combinations not the number of combinations)
17 00 00 00 A4 EA DB 13 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 A3 D3 02 CC
I need any possible unique combination which matches these "rules":
at least 4 bytes long the order of the bytes can't change(so 17 A3 D3 02 CC is ok but A3 D3 02 CC 17 isn't, because in the original string 17 was at the being but A3 D3 02 CC was at the end)
Let me try giving you examples of possible combinations:
17 00 00 00 A4 EA DB 13 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 A3 D3 02
17 00 00 00 A4 EA DB 13 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 A3 D3
17 00 00 00 A4 EA DB 13 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 A3
[Code]....
See the bytes stay in the same order for example the first byte 17 can only in the first byte's place
I don't want combination like
A4 17 02 CC
Because now 17 has changed order compared to A4

Is there a way to determine whether processes have been opened or closed during a given time frame? I'm working on code that will take an initial copy of your processes list, and then based on a timer, continue to take copies, which will compared to the initial processes list to determine which processes have been opened or closed until the timer ends. I'm capturing the processes list's in an Array list.
Dim processesList As String //Initial processes list
Dim processActivity As String //Opened or Closed processes
Dim processesAtStart As New ArrayList // Initial processes as ArrayList (To Compare)
Dim processesCheck As New ArrayList // Latest processes as ArrayList (To Compare)

I have a VB.NET windows application in which I'm using Outlook's contacts as my address book to get a list of email addresses. I'd like it to use Outlook as the address book, but if an Outlook mailbox has not been set up or there are no contacts then I don't want Outlook to come up at all. The problem that I'm having is as soon as I try to access Outlook the Outlook Startup Wizard comes up, which I don't want to happen. Here is my code:

Dim ons As Outlook.NameSpace
Dim Contacts As Outlook.Items

I have a problem with ensuring no duplicates. I have an Appointments form (frmAppointments) and within it exits 4 date time pickers. The first 2 date time pickers are dedicated to creating an appointment date whilst the other 2 are for the purpose of changing an existing appointment date. When the date and time is entered into either one of the pairs (of date time pickers), the values inside get transferred to 2 corresponding textboxes. The user then clicks Save (btnSave) and the values are saved to sql.

I am using VB.NET and Visual Studio 2010 to write my program. The source of the control that I am using can be found here. First, I imported the Calendar.DayView.dll file into my toolbox to use as a control. Then I added the following code to my existing code:
Private Sub DayView1_NewAppointment(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal args As Calendar.NewAppointmentEventArgs)
Dim appointment As New Calendar.Appointment()
appointment.StartDate = args.StartDate
appointment.EndDate = args.EndDate
appointment.Title = args.Title
appointments.Add(appointment)
End Sub
I get this error 'Title' is not a member of 'Calendar.Appointment'. I have no access to the Calendar namespace or the Appointment class. I am able to view the properties of both in the Object Browser but I can't edit any of them.

I work for a somewhat large company.There are about 160 Windows XP Pro users. We are still using Microsoft Office 2000 for the most part.We have upgraded some users to Office 2003. We are not using Microsoft Exchange.I have to export every users' Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2003 Contacts into an Excel or CSV file every 6 months as a way of backing the Outlook Address Contacts.Currently I am doing this by physically going to every pc and manually exporting the contacts.This is a large pain.I am trying to find out if I can use or create a Visual Basic 2008 Express program or script that will export the contacts from Outlook and save it as an Excel or CSV file.The name of the file should be the same as the computers net name.It should be saved in the same location, on the network, each time.I am new to programming and new to VB 2008 Express.I do not know or have any code to start with.

I'm working on an application that takes certain outlook email messages, saved as text files, and loads data from them into a database. It would be better if I could read the messages from the inbox directly into my app without the user having to save them as text files. I've searched the web and every example I find is from 2003 or earlier and is using VB6. I'd like to read both Outlook and Outlook Express Inboxes. Can someone either provide me with the code to do this or a good "recent" link with a tutorial?

I have a an application that opens a SQL connection and over the course of a few hours creates and disposes of tens of thousands of DataReader objects. You could look at it as just one big loop. As the time goes by, the memory usage steadily climbs until the application/system runs out of memory and crashes.
Psuedo code would look something like
SQLConnection.Connect
Do Until x =1000000
Create New DataReader
Use DataReader
Close DataReader
[Code] .....
Even though I dispose of the DataReader object when I am done with it, the memory usage keeps climbing. I found that every time I am finished with the DataReader I have to close the SQLConnection and dispose of it. When I do that it keeps the memory usage very low and the processor usage is barely noticeable. I would think I could just open the SQL connection once and close it when I am done.
