Determine The Length (in Milliseconds) Of An Mp3 File?
Feb 11, 2011Is there a way to get the time length of an mp3 in VB.net? I have TagLib, but it doesn't seem to have any functionality for it.

View 2 RepliesI am trying to determine the length of a string in pixels.
I created a little test program for myself and placed three labels on it, each with the same font in a different size. I set the width of the label to 1024, the screenwidth. I used the same test text for each label, cutting it off at the last character that shows, so there is not hidden text running off the label to be included in the string width count.
What I have found is that the width of the string is being reported as wider than the label, even though, as I just mentioned, there are no characters running off the edge of the label. So, something's awry. Does anyone know how to get an accurate width?
Here follows the whole test code. You can drop three labels on a form and run it to see what I mean.
Code:
Option Explicit On
Option Strict On
Public Class frmMain

View 9 RepliesDo you know of a way of knowing the lenght a string will ocupy on a .DrawString using PrintDocument?
What I want to do is to break up a string in case it won't fit on the page, do not sugest to search for the lenght of the string itself because I am not interested in the number of characters, as you may know, PrintDocument "draws" the text on the page so on proportionate fonts, the number of characters is independent on the lenght of the output.
this is the line that prints the text:
vb.net
e.Graphics.DrawString(strText, New Font("Arial", 12), Brushes.Black, 10,10)
Of course I could use monospaced fonts like courier or the like but... well, I don't want to.
I try to determine the lenght of a string variable, but get the wrong outcome when using: testje = Len(testSTR). When I insert the following line of code: testje = testSTR.Length the answer is still wrong but when I click "Length" I see the correct value. How to get at that value, so I can use it?

I am trying to program the hamming code in vb... theoretically i understand and know how to do everything, first problem I've encountered is dynamic arrays in vb.net ... is it possible to determine the length of an array from the number of items entered in it, since I have no means of figuring out an exact number or length prior to several mathematical function which outcome will be the data .. directly saved to the array !!
View 4 RepliesIs there a simple way to determine how many milliseconds I need to "Sleep" for in order to "emulate" a 2 mhz speed. In other words, I want to execute an instruction, call System.Threading.Thread.Sleep() function for an X amount of milliseconds in order to emulate 2 mhz. This doesn't need to be exact to the millisecond, but is there a ball park I can get? Some forumlate that divides the PC clock speed by the 2 mhz or something?

I have a field displaying on a datagrid that the user has asked to be variable length based on the data that is returned. Is there an easy way to determine how many characters are returned for a field and then converting that to a pixel length so that I can change the length of the field in the code.

I've a text file which has some data written. Records have Starting character as "#2" and Ending character as "#3" in ASCII respectively and the file includes series of records, but not written as Line by Line. The difficulty I'm having is, to how to transfer those data's into a database. The File comes a 7mb file and looping character by character then noting down the Record Starting Character and Record ending Character, and finally substring them is not feasible as it take more time and makes the computer slower. I would like to know is there any easy way to transfer them?

View 2 RepliesI'm working on a client application (server is out of my control) that connects to a server and exchanges query/command datagrams. 'Milliseconds Count!' according to my project specification, meaning that the more we can shave off a send/receive process the better.
I understand that there are physical limitations like network bandwidth, internet latency, etc. Even so, I have a strong gut feeling that a lot of the latency I'm seeing is directly related to processing; it seems 'out of phase' from the latency of other network operations (albeit with significantly smaller datagrams). IE: A standard 32 byte Windows Ping returns in about 5ms consistently, our query/response datagram (468 bytes out, 1500 bytes back) returns in about 15ms consistently.
I'm also working with multiple threads to speed things up as much as possible at the client side, and it seems the more threads are involved the more latency is generated (I've seen up to 70ms of additional lag when using 3 threads as opposed to 2). In a recent Google I found something that I only glanced at, that said something about a limitation in Windows System Timing where some claim was made that any System.TimeSpan < 10ms was effectively going to be a 10ms Timespan because the Windows System Clock only 'Ticks' every 10ms. I wasn't paying attention at the time, but now I'm afraid it might be relevant and I can't find it again.

I'm parsing fixed length file with .NET 3.5 and Regex. This file is from bank. In customer name sometimes there is one characters from this set &,(),[],',"". These are characters, so far I've encountered. There can be anything else. Because of this my regex is failing. My regex is [A-Za-z0-9s-.,'""""(){}[]]{35}. Is there any wild card I can use for special chars rather than specifying individually. I also tried . but didn't work.

Why is the file.length being converted to Byte, when Integer range is greater, and the code not failing to do so? I don't understand.

Appears to be stripping off the milliseconds and replacing it with 000. In my case, milliseconds are important (sequencing thing)
