Directory Pointing To Self /creating Application With A Built-in Database?
Nov 16, 2011
I made a simple program with a database connection:
Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection
Dim dbProvider As String
Dim dbSource As String
[Code]...
Now I heard from someone that in order to make an application with a built in database, I should place the file inside the project.
C:UsersUserdocumentsvisual studio 2010ProjectsmyProjectJIMMY.MDB
How do I make the directory dynamic? So, wherever I place the published application, will it work?

I have to deploy my VB.NET application, and create a new access database with 5 tables, some filled in with values on installation in a specified folder in the C: drive which also needs to be created. I have found using google havent seemed to work for me. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, so maybe I need to use a proper copy of Visual Studio 2008 to do this.
So basically I am looking for a way to create a .exe file that will be used to install my program on a user's computer, and create a folder and database with some values on instalation. Could anyone tell me how I can do this or point me in the right direction? EDIT - Also would you be able to answer this question for me. Will the computer that the program will be installed on require visual studio or any other software to run my program?

So i'm creating a simple application as an example that is to link to a Access 2007 database.
On my main form i have four listboxes that are correctly attached to the table, I have one for First Name, Last Name, Phone, and School. I added 3 records to the database in Access to see if I could display the records in the listboxes on the form. I found that it was very easy by setting the properties and I have no problem there. I also have a command button that loads a new form for the purpose of adding a record to the database.
Here is my main form (frmMain.vb)...
CODE:
And Here is the code for the form...
CODE:
What i'm looking for is when the user presses the Add button on the frmAddNew form then it needs to close and the new record is listed in the textboxes and saved to the database. Id also like to know all kinds of things i might be able to do with textboxes and databases because i'm trying to learn for a larger project where i'll need to keep track of hundreds of records.
I understand that this is a simple procedure, but i've been spending all night scouring tutorials and getting lost in the msdn library online, so maybe some human input will be better.

I want to use the Windows built-in OSK in a touch application I am creating. I found this link to a class that allows one to manage the size & location of the OSK. However, when I run it in my project all I get is a big blue bar at the bottom of the screen, with no keys being displayed. Here is the code from that link:
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Public Class ClKeyboard
#Region "Constants"

I changed default form icon in VB 2010. It worked perfect. But I re-changed this icon (form's icon property) to another icon, and when I debug or built the application it is still showing the old icon, through it shows it perfectly in design mode... What is the problem?

I have built a MVC website on IIS6. I used the built-in ASP.NET Security without Membership, just the way it was implemented in the template solution. It is easy to secure a contoller or action, but now I need to expose the user management to an admin logged into the site. I understand that the builtin ASP controls for doing this are not "best practice" and are a dog to get working. So what is the best practice for offering user management through a ASP.NET MVC application?
I considered using the Entity Framework and wireing it up to the myriad of stored procs. but that seems awkward. I see options for AccountMembershipService and FormsAuthenticationService. That is what the existing project account controller uses. But, I am not fimilliar with either.I can't help but think that this should have already been there from the project template. This is a fundamental part of any website and you were given 15%, why not the rest?

I have a balloon tool tip and want to show it as follows:
vb
Dim CompleteTooltip As New ToolTip With {.IsBalloon = True, .ToolTipTitle = "Title", .ToolTipIcon = ToolTipIcon.Info}
CompleteTooltip.Show("Click close to confirm changes", btnClose, CInt(btnClose.Width / 2), CInt(btnClose.Height / 2), 5000)
i would have thought if i specify that i want a balloon tooltip the point that i specify would be the point that the balloon points to - NOT the upper left point of the tooltip itself... how can i specify the balloon point rather than the upper left point?

I have some assemblies that were developed using .NET 1.1. These are business layer assemblies that are required for other .NET 1.1 applications to work. I have been developing our new applications using .NET 2.0/3.5. I would just convert the business layer projects over to 2.0 and be done with it, but those old 1.1 applications just won't die.As such, has anyone ever had two different .vbproj files (one a .NET 1.1 project file and the other a .NET 2.0/3.5 project file) that pointed to the same set of files so they could be compiled appropriately?

I have a VB.net applications that runs on XP and creates a directory and creates an Excell workbook and saves it. But when I do the same in Vista , when it tries to create a directory to save the excel workbook, it gives me an error that the directory does not exist. If I create the directory manually, it still gives me the same error. Is there a COM call for office 2007 on Vista other than worksheet.SaveAs(FileName:=path). All else works on Vista apart from creating a directory and Saving Excell Worksheet.

I'm trying to write an application that will allow a non-administrator user to create virtual directories in IIS6. I've tried numerous different ways of impersonating a administrative account but nothing seems to work to create the virtual directory.
Here's some of what I've tried:
dim sDirPath as string = "IIS://remotehost/W3svc/1/root"
Dim de As DirectoryEntry = New DirectoryEntry()
de.Path = sDirPath
de.AuthenticationType = AuthenticationTypes.Secure
de.Username = tbxUsername.Text
[Code] .....
what is the correct way to impersonate another user in winforms application that will allow me to create the virtual directory without the user that's running the application being an administrator on the web server? I know this can be done, IIS manager allows you to use "connect as" checkbox to do it.

I am working on writing a very simple application for work. We have a network drive with several folders. I need to select a directory and then develop a list of all the directories and their paths. For this I am using VB Forms. I have added a ComboBox but then what control do I use to select the directory? I do not see any controls in the toolbox (like the little icons that show up to create a new directory and such).
