Mar 25, 2008I am attempting to disable the close button "X" in the controlbox of a form and keep the maximize and minimize buttons. There does not appear to be a way to accomplish this with conventional VB code or using the Form's Properties.
So I ventured into the realm of API's.

I wish to disable the Close (X) button on a Windows Form. I read about ControlBox (I think that the property) but I perfer to do it another way.

Visually Remove/disable Close Button From Title Bar .NET
Nov 16, 2009I have been asked to remove or disable the close button from our VB .NET 2005 MDI application. There are no native properties on a form that allow you to grey out the close button so the user cannot close it, and I do not remember seeing anything in the form class that will allow me to do this.
Is there perhaps an API call or some magical property to set or function to call in .NET 2005 or later to do this?
More information:
I need to maintain the minimize/maximize functionality
I need to maintain the original title bar because the form's drawing methods are already very complex.

Jan 16, 2009I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

Oct 29, 2009I have a form that the user must enter some important information and the only way of leaving of that form is to enter the correct info. By mistake I close that form from the X on the upper right side realizing that my code restrictions on that form was not enough. How can I disable close (X) of that form? Mar 12, 2011I've created a very basic WF Shell project which runs an EXE (xyz.exe) in the WF Shell project's Resource folder. I can get a command line working from the Shell to open the other EXE (xyz.exe). But, I can't get code to close the Shell project's other EXE (xyz.exe) once it is opened. The xyz.exe windows called by the Shell continues to stay open even if I pass a "close" command line to the Shell.
The following code (which Paul suggested in another posting) will not close the other (xyz.exe) EXE's running process (when called by the Shell). While the Shell seems to be able to return it's called subordinate EXE's (xyz.exe) ID, not sure how to use such an ID to close its process.

Apr 23, 2010I have a form containing a date textbox and a submit button and a close window button. The date textbox onblur calls a javascript function which checks for date validation and some other logic and displays some alert messages. The date on the textbox is always selected and onfocus. My problem is when I try to click the close window button with/without changing the date the alert messages from the onblur logic are displaying and I am unable to close the window. I tried using onchange instead of onblur but onchange too works when a control looses focus. it works fine when I donot change the date but when I change the date and hit the close window button it too displays the alert messages and the window does not close. Please suggest me what will be my best option.

Dec 20, 2011I would like to recreate the behaviour of a button or command button on an user control. I need to layout a group of this user control on a form so user can select only one at a time. When users click on one of this user controls a selection frame is drawn to indicate that it has been selected. The problem I have is clearing the selection frame when other control is clicked on. How do buttons or command buttons do this? If you layout a group of buttons only one is highlighted. I have tried using different events like LostFocus and Leave and nothing seems to work.
