Using Data Binding Controls To Add Records To DataSet
May 2, 2011I need to add rows to a DataSet using databound controls in VB.net. I've set up the data bindings themselves, they're bound the the correct controls, and the BindingSource uses the correct DataSet. The DataSet is filled from the DataAdapter correctly, and the binding source works, as the navigation controls all work fine. How do I use the controls to add new data to the DataSet? I guess there must be some kind of end-edit involved which would enable me to insert, update and delete records in the DataSet (as you would use with DataGridViews)

Instead of having country in the datagrid, I want to use it in a combobox to display records base on country selected.what i did (with wizard) doesnt work fine though. VBSQL.OCX Is Failing While Loading Flat File Data (text File Data)?
Oct 15, 2009Our application is using VBSQL.OCX on Sql server 2000 to create temporary tables and load pipe delimited data from a text file with predefined format into the tables. It is failing intermittently doing this. 99% times it works perfectly. But on occasions it does fail with error. Once the process is rerun with the same input file it runs successfully.Basically the architecture is of Store/Head Office where there are around 200 remote stores sending set of data files to the Head Office. At HO our application sequentially processes each store which has all the set of files received, creates a corresponding table, loads the data from the file into the table and moves onto the next store.If it is for some reason not able to load the file for a store, it gives a failure message and continues with next store.Error which the OCX throws is "Attempt to convert data stopped by syntax error in source field"

Aug 11, 2011I have a windows form application that connects to an access database. When the program is running it connects to the database and populates several textboxes that are bound to the dataset. I have been researching for 2 days and cannot find exactly what..I need, although a few threads have given me a better insight into my dataset. I would like to type text into a textbox that is bound to the primary key and when I tab out of the textbox (lostfocus event) have the program do a quick search of all records in the dataset of the primary key and if a duplicate exists, msgbox the user that that particular text is a duplicate and is not allowed, however if the text is not a duplicate, continue the tab keystroke allowing the cursor to move to the next textbox bound to the database.

Apr 28, 2010I currently have a sql database linked to vb.net and I'm populating the comboboxes using SELECT statements. However, I'm getting duplicate records in the comboboxes.I have my database setup as 1 project to many submittals and 1 submittal to many items.
I have 3 projects in my sample dataset and I'll recieve 3 duplicate submittals and 3 duplicate items.
If I have 6 projects in my sample dataset than I'll get 6 duplicate submittals and 6 duplicate items.
I've tried adding distinct to my SQL statement, but that didn't do anything. Is there any reason why its showing as many duplicates as I have projects?

Disabling Button Before Executing VB Code To Prevent Duplicate Records?
Feb 15, 2012I need to disable a button after its pressed so the user does not have the ability to click it again as this would replicate the process in some cases.After alot of searching I found some tips - alot of code I found I could not understand.This is what I have come up with:

I also read somewhere that I should use: System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) to delay the process or something - not entirely sure why I would do this though.Although, the problem with my above code is that when the code behind page performs validation checks, it exits sub before executing my INSERT SQL code - so when it does this it also disables the button.I am not entirely sure if the above method is fool proof or whether it is a **** piece of code that won't work 100% of the time.On another website I found a script to put on the actual HTML page with <script> tags:

Checking For Duplicate Row In DataSet.RowChanging?
Feb 7, 2012I am using the DataSet to test for data errors on a DataGridView (to give the user feedback before they save changes back to the database). RowChanging event has the code at the bottom and this manages error messages on the DGV via an ErrorProvider. I want to add something to this code that esnures there are no duplicate rows (it's a 2 column table and one of those is the autoincrement PK). However I cannot work out how to do this and since the column in the database is set to Indexed (No Duplicates) it will throw an Ole error if I don't handle it, I could manage it in a Try block around TableAdapter.Adapter.Update but would prefer not to add needless round trips to the DB when it really ought to be simple to do it in the code (and preferably in the DataSet, not the form).
I found the following code (Forum Post) and try as I might I can't make it work since I can't get access to a DataTable within the RowChanging event that allows me to run DataTable.Rows.Find().

In my case:Mytable would be some kind of reference to the table / dataset etc.

What I would like to do is read this data in as fast as possible either line by line and processing the data as I go by line. Or read the whole lot in and THEN process it, which woulkd be the fastest ? I used to do this in Excel but want to transfer it to VB and don't know really how to get started I have the following but would like to know how to get the columns into a named array and then how to itterate through array.
