View 1 RepliesI currently have a sql database linked to vb.net and I'm populating the comboboxes using SELECT statements. However, I'm getting duplicate records in the comboboxes.I have my database setup as 1 project to many submittals and 1 submittal to many items.
I have 3 projects in my sample dataset and I'll recieve 3 duplicate submittals and 3 duplicate items.
If I have 6 projects in my sample dataset than I'll get 6 duplicate submittals and 6 duplicate items.
I've tried adding distinct to my SQL statement, but that didn't do anything. Is there any reason why its showing as many duplicates as I have projects?
I am trying to create a .Net application to edit a excel file by deleting some columns and keeping the columns which we need and then removing the duplicate values based on the first column which is going to be the Serial no. which should have a check to have 6 digits by default like 2563 should be displayed as 002563.

I wish to insert a row into an SQL table a multiple number of times. The only field that will change is the Primary key ID which will update automatically.
To enter the INSERT into a loop seems very inefficient (time). The only other way I can find to do this is build up an array of values and do a multiple INSERT but again this seems very inefficient (memory) when the values will all be identical.
Is there a way of saying insert this row a variable number of times?

I have a windows form application that connects to an access database. When the program is running it connects to the database and populates several textboxes that are bound to the dataset. I have been researching for 2 days and cannot find exactly what..I need, although a few threads have given me a better insight into my dataset. I would like to type text into a textbox that is bound to the primary key and when I tab out of the textbox (lostfocus event) have the program do a quick search of all records in the dataset of the primary key and if a duplicate exists, msgbox the user that that particular text is a duplicate and is not allowed, however if the text is not a duplicate, continue the tab keystroke allowing the cursor to move to the next textbox bound to the database.

I can do Session.QueryOver(Of Item).List and there are no extra columns generated. I can also do Session.QueryOver(Of Report).List and there are no extra columns generated.

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

I am working with some DBF database files and have an interesting dilemma. I need to search through a table, find duplicates and delete them. Problem... Table doesnt contain a key.
So Table looks like this:
Name, BadgeNum
I need to be able to find instances like this:
John, 10

and then delete just one iteration of John, 10.
Is this even possible? A "DELETE FROM TABLE WHERE BadgeNum=10" will delete both.....

I'm doing a simple database thru VS2008 and Msaccess without using any builtin relationship between records, now i need to know how i can retrieve specific data from access using the oledbadapter or any, example seek if the value from the textbox1.text is already existing in msaccess table then msgbox "Record already exists.", note that the code is in keypress event of the textbox1.
