Currently working on a project to automate the input based on the Summary file (xls format)
1. I want to be able to do the following: update, append, delete and populate the records to the various files based on two distinct fields, column A & F (see attached file).
2. Researched the process, requires knowing VB codes, are you familiar with this language? If so, how can I simplify the process? Please advise.
3. The files will reside on the SPP.

how i can implement below requirement using asp.net and vb.net.I have three fields in a form which are filled by users. Based on these three values, i need to auto-populate the 4th field.I have planned to implement this in the following way.Write a separate class file with a function to calculate the possible values for the 4th fields based on 1st 3 inputs. This function can return some where between 1-10 values. So I've decided to use drop-down for 4th field, and allow users to select the appropriate value.Call the above function in onchange function of 3rd field and take and use the return values to populate the 4th field. I'm planning to get the return values in array field.(Does this need a post back?)

I apologize if it is not. I am trying to write a script in Visual Studio 2008 (using a VB project) that will, upon the clicking of a button:
- A file object will be created.
-Said file object will read in a number of files from a specified file path.
-A dataset will be created and populated with fields from two columns within a database table; app_id and company_name.
-The script will read through the file names and fields recorded in the dataset, renaming the file to the app_id if the original file name contained the company_name.
The code I have so far to do this:

The problem is that currently this code will only rename the file if the file name and company_name match exactly, ideally I'd need to include a clause to make it rename if the file name is "LIKE" or "contains" the company_name.

I have a datatable populated from an SQL Server 2008 database table. I created a DataAdapter with a commandbuilder to manage the updating, inserting, and deleting of records. The Updating and Inserting work as expected. However, Delete does not. The code runs through just fine without any errors. The number of records in the datatable after the row is deleted even reflects the deletion. The DataAdapter.Update works fine without any exceptions. But when checking the actual table in the SQL DB the deleted record is still there.Here are the parts of my code that deal with this table.

I'm creating a project using Microsoft Access 2007 & Visual Basic 2008.I have two tables in my database, Staff and Training Attended. The Training Attended records of Staff are displayed in datagridview, residing in a different form from the Staff detailsWhat my program does is, it will display all of the Staff's list of Training Attended in datagridview once I click the button in Staff form. I have problems with the updating and deleting of records in database. I'm using ObjectDataSource and the GridView to display the results in the database. Below is the codes for the update and delete (in the DAL (data access layer). BTW, I'm doing 3 tier architecture in VB.

I don't know why, but every time I try to update (by clicking on the update button), every thing is not updated, the page would refresh then the records still remain the same in the GridView. As for delete, when I clicked on the 'delete' button, the record is not deleted, it still remains there.

I have two tables as follows:
Customer | Product

A | Car
A | Bike
A | Boat

If I use a normal JOIN then I get a list of friends for every separate product. I just want the two lists once.
The output lists with '-' need not be table cells, they can be <ul>s.
How can I achieve this? I would like to bind to ASP.net GridView. Should I try to do it all in one query, or use multiple queries and somehow add them both to the same Grid?
Each row actually forms part of a long report. Essentially each row of the report contains Customer ID, a bunch of other fields which match one-to-one with Customer ID, then the two lists for each Customer ID I described. Perhaps I can use a separate query for each list, then manually add each list to the grid on RowDataBound or similar?

I have used this form to add new records on my database(ms access) in my database I have a column name 'ID' which is my primary key 'ID' is set as auto number. Now I am having a trouble on creating my update and delete button it's always saying "cannot be delete/update"

i have a simple application which can create/update/delete/search records using Access database. If i add a record, save it, then close the application and run it again and search for that record, it appears. However, when i write some code to my application, nothing to do with the search function, and i run the application the record is not found. For example i added a button to clear the textfields, and when i ran the application the records i have added earlier were not found.

Is there a way to auto-update a listview based on reading a column?
Requirements:
1) The code must make a call to a user-created "Private Sub" to recalculate
2) Update must be automatic. .SelectedItem or clicking a row will not work
3) The formula function cannot be included in Form_Load
I've got everything working if the user selects a row, then clicks an "update" button using .SelectedItem. But with my current program containing 200 rows, it's not feasible. Simply put, how would I go about updating a listview column (0 in this case) based off a call to a formula, then updating the row?

I am building a custom search control in VB.NET and came across a problem getting distinct records into my datagridview. I want to bring exact matches back first so I run 2 of the same query on the same table with a slight difference:
select ... like "code%"
select ... like "%code%"
I have a datatable that I need to get distinct records from; I am append records from a sql query to the end of the datatable so I cannot use a union in sql to return the dataset (I want to preserve the order which the rows are added) I have been using this which is working fine for 2 fields:
dt2 = dt.DefaultView.ToTable(True, "Code", "Name")
But when I have 3 (or more) fields I get duplicates ONLY for the row I am querying:
dt2 = dt.DefaultView.ToTable(True, "Code", "Name", "Initial")
select ... like "initial%"
select ... like "%intial%"
I am clearing the datagridview.source before rebuilding this. Is there a way to get the distinct rows this way or should I just build something myself to remove the duplicates from the second datatable before appending them to the new table?
