2005 - Unable To Get Distinct Records From Datatable Using DefaultView.ToTable?

I am building a custom search control in VB.NET and came across a problem getting distinct records into my datagridview. I want to bring exact matches back first so I run 2 of the same query on the same table with a slight difference:
select ... like "code%"
select ... like "%code%"
I have a datatable that I need to get distinct records from; I am append records from a sql query to the end of the datatable so I cannot use a union in sql to return the dataset (I want to preserve the order which the rows are added) I have been using this which is working fine for 2 fields:
But when I have 3 (or more) fields I get duplicates ONLY for the row I am querying:
dt2 = dt.DefaultView.ToTable(True, "Code", "Name", "Initial")
select ... like "initial%"
select ... like "%intial%"
I am clearing the datagridview.source before rebuilding this. Is there a way to get the distinct rows this way or should I just build something myself to remove the duplicates from the second datatable before appending them to the new table?
I have a datatable and I apply a filter to the defaultview.rowfilter property of that datatable. If I then loop through the rows collection of the datatable, will I only be able to see those rows that the filter applies to, or will it loop through all the rows?
Is there anyway to filter a DefaultView with a LIKE-type operator as in MySQL?I want to be able to make it so that in my program, a person can type in a textbox and as they type, the list is refiltered based on what is typed, but I want it to match anything in the string of text, not just starting from the beginning or an exact match.
I am attemping to bubble sort a DataTable.DefaultView (column has hex Integers), problem is that my code isnt working. I think the way I am swapping the rows is not actually happening in the Devault View, but ony happening at the local variables drv1 & drv2.

If I would connect to database I would run a query like this: "Select distinct Column1, column2 from tablename where somefield=somevalue order by column2". How can I run this query to a datatable? I know .select but that's not enough like dataset.datatable("name").select(filter,short). Still need distinct.
I am using strongly typed dataset and have many tables in that. The problem is now I want to filter data from GetData() function which has a query like select * from table_name

I have a "result" which is DataTable and I like to get the x distinct values(City) and convert it back to DataTable how do I do this the code below gives me an error

Edited:I am using "where" in this statement and it does convert to Table(works fine) but not on "select"

i fill a datatable in a typed dataset.. it has cities and states but I want to pull just distinct states and bind it to a control etc.. there is the filter, but i havent found a way to do distinct or group by. got to be a way without adding more datatables and filling them with data thats already there right?

I have an asp.net application where I have a datatable ("DataTableA") that returns just one column ("ProductID").
I want to read each row of "ProductID", process some business logic, then copy both those columns (ProductID & ProductIDBusinessLogicValue) to DataTableB. This DataTableB is then displayed on the asp.net page.

I have a blank form, and I've added a really simple Access database with two tables with two columns each. If I click and drag the name of one of the columns, and drop it on the form, I get a label and a textbox.
I was assuming that since the load procedure already had Me.WhateverTableAdapter.Fill in there, that when I pressed the green arrow to run the program, I'd be able to flip through the records in the column.
When I click "preview data", I do see the data is there, but when I run the program, it says 0 records and none load. Is there something else I have to do to be able to flip through the records in that one text box?
I have a DataTable with multiple columns including AccountNumber, Year, and Month. I am exporting the information in this table to an Excel workbook. Since this table has the potential to be extremely large, I must check the number of records in the table (since Excel can only have 65536 rows or something like that. If the original table is small enough, I need to put all of the records in a single worksheet. If there are too many records for one worksheet, I need to separate the records into multiple worksheets based on AccountNumber. Additionally, if there are too many records for a specific AccountNumber then I need to split that AccountNumber into multiple worksheets based on Year.ng:

In my application, I open a "Customer Details" form and on confirming I have to delete all records from other 2 tables (Order & OrderDetails) of the database. I am not able to delete records. It somehow stops by on - ordDetAdap.Update(ordDetDs) . The code is as follows :

There may be N number of Orders and each order may have N number of OrderRedetails. There are rows and also shows proper data in MsgBox, also row.Delete works fine, BUT why does it stop at Update(OrdDetDs) I can't make out. Any idea where am I going wrong.
Also Is their any easy way out to delete all records using just a single statement providing OrderId from OrderDetails table ? As of there are 10 rows of a single order, then For loop will iterate 10 times and delete 10 rows, instead if I can delete all 10 rows at once would be beneficial.
I have a program which I am converting from VB6 to VB2010 this is also my first venture into sql. I have read many of the examples to try to get to grips with deleting records including those in this forum by imcilhinney
My problem is that I want to delete all but one of the records when the user presses a button, everything goes well until the 'ExecuteNonQuery' is reached.
We have a small app that was converted from 2003 to 2005 to 2008. All was fine until i needed to alter the sql associated with a datatable. When i tried to 'configure' the datatable by right-clicking & selecting 'configure', the configure option was not activated. It was decided that what i needed to do was create a new web application in 2008, add the datasets within 2008, then either import &/or cut & paste the old forms & other pices into the new project. However, when i go to configure my new datatable in my new dataset, i have the same problem... configure option is not activated. What can i do to configure these datatables?
I am fairly new to visual basic 2008 but not to visual basic(vb6). I want to insert a new row in the database table (library.mdb). I connected the database into my project and is bounded by a dataGridview control. I have no problem in getting the records from the database. I used the code under click event of a commandButton, after clicking the button neither the record inserts in the database table nor the program generates any error. The code I used is :

Here Book_Master is the database table. LibraryDataSet is the dataset, Book_MasterTableAdapter (not used in the above code) is the TableAdapter. Is there anything missing in the above code? Is there any other method to enter data into the database in visual basic 2008?
