View 1 RepliesI'm sort of new to the vb 2008, and I would like to be able to send a file to another computer and save it on the local drive. Doesn't have to be in any certain folder, but just on the c drive. I know for the old visual basic you would use winsock for this, but in 2008, they have removed it. What and how will I do this. There will be no program on the user's computer. This is done all from one computer sending to another with no program listening on it. This computer is on my network with network sharing, so I can just do like a \computernameorIPaddress and open send the file that way.
View 2 RepliesI found something very strange, in the data base explorer I modify the conection to the location of the data base(F:My DocumentsMy ResepteResepte.sdf) , but after raning the app. the path is back to what it was in the project folder and so the same in the selution window. It is set to Do Not Copy. How can I change this so that the IDE looks at the propper data all the time.

A form that will display the contents of a folder? I have my forms set up, I want the user to then click on a button that will load up a nw form which will contain a window that is a folder in one of my drives. There may be folders inside this main folder which the user can go into, but they can't go back frrom the original main folder and look at the other contents. First up, Is an explorer form the one I am looking for? Making one of those, it seems to be the right path but where to from there?
Another thing I need to be able to do is have the user double click on the files inside of the folder. When double clicked the folder still maintains its current state, as the files that will be clicked will do the work in the background. I have all the forms set up and linked together, I just need to know how to get this folder into a form..
I have a program that must copy a file to 3 locations, the local hard disk, a USB drive, and a network location. I have the file (about 70mb) loaded into a byte array. My quesion is, since I'm not actively modifying the byte array, can I impliment a form of multithreading where all 3 threads read the same byte array at the same time?
View 1 RepliesMy Dad made an application which had a feature that i want, basically his programme reads the users hard drive serial number and then multiplies it by say 12 and then divides it by 7 for example. This number is then shown as a 'Authorisation Code' which the user has to email to him and then his breaks it back down to the original hard drive serial number which he sends back which is the application serial number to activate it. I want to know how to read the actual hard drive serial number or a number that every computer has so i can do the same but i have searched everywhere and cannot find any examples for VB 2008 apart from one which didn't work

In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.
The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)
I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?

That is my code for my x and y (each die) to generate code, but how do I make it do 1 - 6 ONLY? Develope a game that in which a player rolls two dice. Each die has 6 faces. Each face contains 1, 2,3,4,5,6 after the dice have come to rest the sum of the spots is calculated, if the sum is 7 or 12 on the first throw, the player wins. If the sum is 2,3, or 11 on the first throw, the player loses, and the house wins. If the sum is 4,5,6,8,9,10 on the first throw the sum becomes the player's point. To win, a player must roll the dice until the plater rolls the point value. The player loses by rolling a 7 before rolling the point. I also have another question, How would I set this up to keep up with points and stuff? and the part that says "The player loses by rolling a 7 before rolling the point." I have no clue what to do on that. I'm not asking for code hand outs. I'm just asking what functions and such I'd use to write the code.

I have a program that allows the user to enter a drive letter into a text box. The program then takes the letter and find the physical drive number (i.e. deviceharddisk3..). It then stripes out everything and leaves me with the number 3.
In VB6 I used mDrive.bas from vbAccelerator.com and it worked perfectly. I have been all over the internet and back and cannot find a solution written in VB.NET.
I want to make a tool that will assign a USB pen drive a drive letter, I am using WMI to acknowledge the device being plugged in, I can pull the deviceID, name, etc now I just need to work out how to assign the device to a drive and I just cant figure it out
View 4 RepliesThe drive is connected via USB and the problem I'm having is that, periodically, while my code is executing, the usb drive seems to disconnect and reconnect. (Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.

For example if I input C then the result needs to be \Device\HardDrive1\... Some call it NT Device Name; I think. I have the code for VB6 from vbAccelerator, which works perfectly, but it does not work in VB.NET. My question is there a simple way of pulling the drive info that contains the drive letter and the physical device number. I have searched the internet and found nothing for VB.NET. I would post code but I have nothing for .NET.

View 14 RepliesI have a program I am converting from VB6 to VB.NET and I am stuck at the very last piece of code. I need to determine what physical device number is associated with the drive letter.
The program takes the drive letter from a text box and goes and finds the device number (i.e. deviceharddrive3...) and strips out everything leaving me with the devicer number; in this case the number 3. I have searched the internet to and fro and found nothing in VB.NET.
My program in VB6 uses a .bas module from vbaccelerator.com called mDrive.bas and works great. I can't figure out how to convert it over to VB.NET.
Does anyone know how this can be done? The problem is that when you run the script to add a domain user to the local group as a local user you have no permissions to query the domain. Is there a way to pass a user name and password when doing this? [code]...

This will be a �virtual desktop� which you will be able to take with you and have the same �desktop� on any system. Is it possible to check if a Logical device gathered through a WMI search request is a CD/DVD Drive? Right now, I can get the path of every Win32_LogicalDisk through WMI, but E: (for me) is my DVD drive and unless there is a disc, my program fails because it tries to count the number of folders/files on the disc.
Ultimately, I'd like to be able to tell if it is a CD/DVD drive then check to see if there is a disc there before I do anything else to it. Can it be done using WMI?

The problem is that the Drive letter "I:" is not consistent. Sometimes when I connect and disconnect external devices, the CD Drive letter changes and then my code doesn't work unless I open the project, change the letter "I" and recompile.What code can I use that will ALWAYS detect my CD Drive, regardless of the drive letter? Application.StartupPath is the answer I have come up with- Implementing it is difficult for me- all the examples I have seen retrieves the path and imports it to a textbox. What I got is a form will start a .exe of a portable program- ( that will be located on the jump drive, or cd)
I have created a form that will -when a button is pressed- execute an .exe to a program that will also be on the jump drive. how to do this from start to finish on how to run an .exe from a file that will not ever be located on the same drive-
