VS 2008 Displays Contents Of A Certain Folder In Local Drive?
Apr 11, 2010
A form that will display the contents of a folder? I have my forms set up, I want the user to then click on a button that will load up a nw form which will contain a window that is a folder in one of my drives. There may be folders inside this main folder which the user can go into, but they can't go back frrom the original main folder and look at the other contents. First up, Is an explorer form the one I am looking for? Making one of those, it seems to be the right path but where to from there?
Another thing I need to be able to do is have the user double click on the files inside of the folder. When double clicked the folder still maintains its current state, as the files that will be clicked will do the work in the background. I have all the forms set up and linked together, I just need to know how to get this folder into a form..

Is it possible for a webpage to popup a open folder dialog, ask the user to select a folder, then show the contents of that folder in a list(or something) in the webpage. It won't write to the files, only read them. The webpage is hosted remotely.

My Dad made an application which had a feature that i want, basically his programme reads the users hard drive serial number and then multiplies it by say 12 and then divides it by 7 for example. This number is then shown as a 'Authorisation Code' which the user has to email to him and then his breaks it back down to the original hard drive serial number which he sends back which is the application serial number to activate it. I want to know how to read the actual hard drive serial number or a number that every computer has so i can do the same but i have searched everywhere and cannot find any examples for VB 2008 apart from one which didn't work

Does anyone know if there is a way to determine if a drive is local or a network drive?

OK, so the code in this link: [URL]
allowed me to get a progress bar. It sums up the size of all the files in the folder and then moves them and as it writes them, it determines how much has been written of the total, and sends that to a progress bar.
Now, what I'm wanting to determine is the best way to do subfolders (an subfolders of subfolders, etc).
Would it be stupid/smart to get a list of the folder structure in a particular folder, then recreate that structure, then get a list of all the files and then use the code in the above thread to recreate those files in their respective folders?
I am making a rather simple backup utility that takes one folder and moves it to another and I'm just trying to figure out the most logical or "accepted" way of handling folders when at the same time, you need to have a total of all the size of all the files being moved so you can display an accurate progress bar.

I have a program that creates a root folder and sub-folder in the users C-drive.I unfortunatley did not think this through propaly. Senario = if a user does not have access to the C-drive and just has an account to thier 'My Documents' then they cannot use this program.How i achieve the C-drive root-folder, sub-folder, and eventually text file creation is as follows;
If
My.Computer.FileSystem.DirectoryExists("C:AMSFTAMSFT_RunnersDetails"
+ Label81.Text) Then[code]...
I do not what to change the format of this code too much as it is embedded heavily in my code, what i want to do is instead of checking and creating these folders and text files in the C-drive, i would like to change the location to a potentially unrestricted area, eg; 'my Documents'. how to alter this code to achieve this?

I have a single instance app that is working fine except for this strange (to me) issue.
The user could double click on FileA and my app opens and displays the file contents (the path of FileA has been passed as a parameter) No problem there. The problem is that if the user then double clicks on FileB and I read the parameter it still contains the path to FileA. What trick am i missing here?
(If i add a debug line that forces the code to be FileB's path the the app works correctly in terms of opening a new tab, reading the contents etc.) (vb.net 2010)

I am trying to copy the entire drive contents of a CF card to another location. For example:
Source Location:
e:DCIM
Destination Location:
X:2010-06-01
What I want to do:
- Copy E:*.* to Destination
- The original file structure can stay the same. I want to copy everything from the root of the Source Drive
I can copy the contents if I set source string to e:DCIM.. But I'm concerned that if I get something that doesn't have the first directory (DCIM) it's going to error.

I'm sort of new to the vb 2008, and I would like to be able to send a file to another computer and save it on the local drive. Doesn't have to be in any certain folder, but just on the c drive. I know for the old visual basic you would use winsock for this, but in 2008, they have removed it. What and how will I do this. There will be no program on the user's computer. This is done all from one computer sending to another with no program listening on it. This computer is on my network with network sharing, so I can just do like a \computernameorIPaddress and open send the file that way.

I found something very strange, in the data base explorer I modify the conection to the location of the data base(F:My DocumentsMy ResepteResepte.sdf) , but after raning the app. the path is back to what it was in the project folder and so the same in the selution window. It is set to Do Not Copy. How can I change this so that the IDE looks at the propper data all the time.

I have a program that must copy a file to 3 locations, the local hard disk, a USB drive, and a network location. I have the file (about 70mb) loaded into a byte array. My quesion is, since I'm not actively modifying the byte array, can I impliment a form of multithreading where all 3 threads read the same byte array at the same time?

I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.)
In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.
The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)
I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?

In this question I'm using Visual Studio 2008. My code is quite simple, as it was used from a reference I grabbed off the web. I'm using ASP/VB.Net, IIS6.0 on a Windows Server 2003 box.I've looked at various sources online, and have not been able to piece together a proper result. The purpose of this is to list a slew of directories and their respective files, and allow the user to eventually manage that directory (such as open and delete files).
Here is my ASPX page:
<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="DirectoryList.aspx.vb" Inherits="VCMReports.DirectoryList" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" >
[code]....
When launching the page, the following error appears: 'V:Users' is not a valid virtual path. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: 'V:Users' is not a valid virtual path.
Things I have tried:
On the server, I have mapped out the drive and the directory.Permissions seem to be properly set, impersonate is correct.If I were to list a directory in the actual directory "C:InetpubDirectory", there is no failure.I do understand this is incomplete for the Directory listing portion, this will only list files (so this will need to be modified.I have attempted to create a Virtual Directory, and the application presented the same error. On my local development machine, I have the same path created - same error. How am I able to view the contents of a shared directory and it's files?

I'm trying to write a program that opens a folder from the CD disk when a button is clicked. The program will be run from a CD, and aims to open a certain folder. However, I can't use "shell "explorer...."" because the drive letter will change between different computers. Is there a way to open the folder straight from the CD in VB.NET

I want to know what rights the user has for a given folder on a network drive. But I can't find anything that does just this.
I have used DirectoryInfo.GetAccessControl and DirectorySecurity.GetAccessRules, etc. to get a collection (AuthorizationRuleCollection) of rules. But that gives me all the access groups and their rights. I don't need that (I guess I can see if I can find code that gets which returns the security groups for the current user and then compare those to the collection, but this seems awkward.)
Or I can write code that tries to create a file, delete it, etc. which is easy to do, but not quite accurate (if the user can't create a file, how can I see if the user can delete one, if the user has create, but not delete rights, I get a bunch of temp files, etc.)
All I need to know is if the current user has read write, read only, create, and/or delete rights to a given folder (and I guess file might also be nice - I would assume similar code.)
I have to believe that its a really simple thing. But Googling it and searching on the forums here didn't turn up much (unless I want code to change the users rights - which I don't.)

I am using vb.net with visual studio 2008. I have the need to have a user select a directory on a network drive to bring up a folder with a very extensive list of files. The file names within this directory are what I'm concerned with and I will need to write all these file names to a textfile in order to do a comparison with an existing text file. The user must be able to select this folder themselvesAt this point I am trying to use the openfiledialog box to open the folder however it is requiring that I select a specific file which is not my need. I need the whole folder.
I currently have a filter that is allowing all files.
fdlg.Filter = "All files (*.*)|*.*|All (*.*)
