Reading Individual Lines Of A CSV Into A String Array?

Mar 11, 2010

It's a list of computer systems, basically, that the user can purchase.I need to read this file, line-by-line, into an array. Let's call this array csvline().The first line of the text file would stored in csvline(0). Line two would be stored in csvline(1). And so on.(I've started with zero because that's where VB starts its arrays). A drop-down list would then enable the user to select 1, 2 or 3 (or however many lines/systems are stored in the file). Upon selecting a number - say, 1 - csvline(0) would be displayed inside a textbox (textbox1, let's say). If 2 was selected, csvline(1) would be displayed, and so on.

It's not the formatting I need help with, though; that's the easy part. I just need someone to help teach me how to read a CSV file line-by-line, putting each line into a string array - csvlines(count) - then increment count by one so that the next line is read into another slot.So far, I've been able to paste the numbers of each system into an combobox:

Using csvfileparser As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser _
("F:folderprogramnameprogramnameinDebugsystems.csv")
Dim csvalue As String()

[code].....

But this only selects individual values. I need to figure out how selecting one of these numbers in the combobox can trigger textbox1 to be appended with just that line (I can handle the formatting, using the string.format stuff). If I try to do this using csvalue = csvtranslator.ReadLine , I get the following error message:"Error 1 Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of String'."If I then put it as an array, ie: csvalue() = csvtranslator.ReadLine , I then get a different error message:"Error 1 Number of indices is less than the number of dimensions of the indexed array.

VS 2010 Reading/writing 2d String Array From/to File

I can write a 1-d string array to file with:

Dim test() As String = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
File.WriteAllLines("C:MyFile.txt", test)

but can't see how to write a 2-d array to file.

I've tried this:

Dim test(,) As String = {{1, 2, 3, 4, 5}, {34, 22, 12, 33, 55}}
Dim myfile = File.CreateText("C:MyFile.txt")

Error: Value Of Type Cannot Be Converted To 1 Dimensional Array Of String

Sep 29, 2008

[Code] As you can see, the code in the client side calls a function in the Server that generates an array as output. And this output SHOULD be loaded into the new array that was created in the client side. The case is that it is not allowing me to do that. The blue underlined row gives me the following error: Value of type 'ClientTest.TestService.ArrayOfString' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of String'.

I cannot see what is wrong, the function generates the same output type as the new var that is expecting to load it. Why data cannot be 'converted'? And what would be the solution to turnaround this problem? PS: Actually my function is a bit more complex than that and evolves a DB query, etc, but I reduced its code to simplify as the problem is occurring just in the array transfer.

Global String Array Declaration In ActiveX Control And Package Installation Error

Apr 12, 2011

I have been working on an activeX control which works on serial port communication. Now I have completed the project and created its setup.exe using Visual studio 6 -> Tools -> Package and Deployment Wizard. Then I installed the control in another PC and in a new project included the control using project -> components. But when I click on the control in the toolbox and then include on the form it gives the following error : delete current link ? and on clicking OK, nothing happens. I tried searching a lot on google but didnt find anything. Another problem is that I have created a string array as a global array which can be accessed by all the methods.I am able to include the same activex control in my own pc when I have created the project. Here it works fine, I am able to access all the methods that I coded in the control, but the String array mentioned above can be accessed in other project. I tried writing Public before the array declaration but it give me the compile error : "Constants. fixed length strings, arrays, user defined types and Declare statements not allowed as Public members of object module." [code]
