The user will be able to upload their pages to the respective pages nodes and I am suppose to make it in such a way that after the user uploaded the cover page which is showing at the PictureBox1 which I've use to display the image, and when he uploads the second page image at the PictureBox1, the Cover page image that he uploaded earlier on will not be overwrite.
I was told to create class and use array to store the contain in the respective nodes but I do not have any idea how to do it.
In VB6 I could assign an Excel range directly to a variant array dim vArr as variant vArr = xlSheet.range("A2:A10").value and then work with vArr to pull out the values I needed. This doesn't work in VB 2010. Is there a replacement procedure to allow me to read in a range (perhaps large) all at once and then process the data without needing Excel?

I have a application that use threadpool, and each thread stores data in the same textfile. I now want to have each thread store the data in the same array instead and use a timer to store all current data in the array into the text file after every couple of minutes.
So what I want to do is:
1. All threads store data in one array that they all have access to
2. After every couple of minutes the data in the array is stored into the text file.
I know number 2 can be done with a timer, but is the first one possible? If so how do I accomplish this task?

View 3 RepliesI have developed a vb.net dll (.net 3.5) which does the following :
- I have data of several stock market companies.
- They are stored in several folders under a main folder.
- These files are random access files.
- There can be around 4000 files in total for example.
I wrote a program which reads a current csv file and stores contents in array. Then I store name and path of companies in folders (which I was talking about). Then I match one company from csv (stored in array) to companies in user's folder (again reading from array). If found I insert data in the file (random access file). This whole process takes for eg. 2 min my system. A similar program was written years ago by someone in powerbasic which takes slight less time if run one but if run for multiple csv files it takes only a few seconds doing the same thing for other files. When I do the same thing (by writing code to .net dll) and making a dummy app to run it, no matter how many times I run it takes same time. And is way slower than the earlier one (PB) one I was talking about. But if I paste the same code in my win (.net) app and not use .net dll then it runs a bit faster.
I need to show status so if I pass my form's label reference to .net dll and it updates it does that slow down process a lot. As I mentioned I am trying to process the files and it takes longer in .net. What should I do to get best performance? Unfortunately due to unexplainable reasons I cannot change the format or use a db. The files which I am reading/writing (random access files) are use by other products so I have to stick to that format. What I am doing is storing the location of those files in array so that I don't have to search folder again. that is not taking time. But opening reading and writing files is time consuming if I am doing it for few thousand of them. A similar program in powerbasic (developed years ago) runs fast. Running code thru .net dll is slower than running it thru program. Why?
I have a .txt file i want to read that has states by abbreviation and states by name. In that text file some are territories and some are states.
I want to read from that file and put the abbreviations into one structure array and the states into another structure array.
I then want to lookup up the states by abbreviation or state name. The lookup will simply be selected by a radio button which will flag either the states full name array, or the abbreviation array.

I have an integer and a button.After clicking on the button, the integer value would be for example 10.Then how could I store that value 10 into the memory, and when I click the button again, the new integer value now is 5. I'd like to add up the old and new value together and write it to a text file.

I have two forms
Form1 contains a 4x4 MSFlexGrid (unfortunately an unmanaged COM object but I can merge cells, which I can't do with a managed Datagrid)
Form2 contains other controls which change the data in the Flexgrid.
I connect the two with a Public 4x4 array. Form2 changes the data in this array. I can update the grid data by reading the array. But how do I bind the Grid to the array so that it auto-updates - which is the whole point of binding isn't it?

I�m currently working on a school project and I have encountered a problem in my code. When i write the contents of my listbox to a file called stock.txt it seems write an invisible linebreak in-between each data entry, my problem is that when I load my array on the next form those invisible linebreaks causes my array to load the data incorrectly.

I'm designing a small GUI Windows program that allow staff at a cinema to reserve seats for customers. There will be a total of 60 seats in the cinema. I have two classes in my program:-
1.) MainForm.vb - used for I/O actions and user interaction
2.) SeatManager.vb - used to hold and handle the background methods and functions that make the program work

Basically, when the program opens, the lstReservations list in the MainForm class will be populated with a total of 60 (m_totalNumberOfSeats) entries to represent 60 seats. Each of these seats will contain the index number from the array m_nameList; this index number (+1) will represent the seat number and then in the lstReservations list, after the seat number, I'd like it to contain the respective entry from the m_nameList array. As all entries will be held in RAM, when the GUI is opened, all m_nameList array entries will be empty. As the user uses the program, they can highlight a row in the lstReservations list and then use the GUI textboxes to enter the customer's name which will then be populated into the respective array entry.
how to, when the GUI opens, ensure that the lstReservations list takes all of the blank entries from the m_nameList array and from there, I can highlight a row to carry out further methods on?

I need some input on what I'm doing wrong. What I have so far is an order form program where customers input their information and what they want to buy. Now, what I'm trying to do is take the customer information, store it in an array, write the customer information to a file, and then when I open the order form, it loads the customer information file and automatically fill in a display box on another form with all the customers and the information.I want each customer in a file to be stored on one line. After it has all been added to the array, all customers in the file, I want to loop through the array and display each customer on a new line in a listbox, which opens in another form.So far, everything works IF I don't write to a fail. If I store the customers in an array and use a loop to display the customers in the listbox, all is well. However, when writing to a file and trying to read it back into the array is where I've hit a problem. The following code seems to work well, however, it just reads the first line over and over as many times as there are lines in the file, and displays all those using the loop. I just need a way to loop through the lines and store each line into each structured array for each customer, instead of read the first line 12 times over into 12 different places in the array.

So I am trying to learn vb.net and am a beginner. I find alot of online tutorials, but have yet to find one where I can follow what I'm attemping to do, just bits and pieces. I want to keep the code basic until I learn more, and in this case use two - one dimenstion arrays. I built a program to write Employee Names and Wages to a txt file.ie.

I want to bring back that data and place the name and the and wage each into an array so I can calculate different criteria when I hit a search button. I will not know how many names and wages will be written to txt file. I am having trouble understanding exactly how to do this as all the examples I've found list only one array or the txt file is line by line like.

I've already got SOME code, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to work, and I don't know much about reading from text files and string manipulation in the first place.
