Writing Data From Listbox To .txt Then Reading .txt Into An Array?

May 15, 2012

Im currently working on a school project and I have encountered a problem in my code. When i write the contents of my listbox to a file called stock.txt it seems write an invisible linebreak in-between each data entry, my problem is that when I load my array on the next form those invisible linebreaks causes my array to load the data incorrectly.

I have attached a pic of my stock.txt file

The Code that Edits and writes to stock.txt

Private Sub BtnRemove_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnRemove.Click
'Removes the selected item from the listbox then updates stock.txt
lbxStock.Items.Remove(lbxStock.Text)[code].....

Writing Data From Array In One Class To A Listbox In Another Class

Jul 26, 2011

I'm designing a small GUI Windows program that allow staff at a cinema to reserve seats for customers. There will be a total of 60 seats in the cinema. I have two classes in my program:-

1.) MainForm.vb - used for I/O actions and user interaction

2.) SeatManager.vb - used to hold and handle the background methods and functions that make the program work

Here is the code for my MainForm.vb class thusfar:-

Public Class MainForm
Private Const m_totalNumberOfSeats As Integer = 60
Private m_seatManager As SeatManager

[Code]....

Basically, when the program opens, the lstReservations list in the MainForm class will be populated with a total of 60 (m_totalNumberOfSeats) entries to represent 60 seats. Each of these seats will contain the index number from the array m_nameList; this index number (+1) will represent the seat number and then in the lstReservations list, after the seat number, I'd like it to contain the respective entry from the m_nameList array. As all entries will be held in RAM, when the GUI is opened, all m_nameList array entries will be empty. As the user uses the program, they can highlight a row in the lstReservations list and then use the GUI textboxes to enter the customer's name which will then be populated into the respective array entry.

how to, when the GUI opens, ensure that the lstReservations list takes all of the blank entries from the m_nameList array and from there, I can highlight a row to carry out further methods on?

VS 2008 Reading Ascii Txt File Into Array And Writing It?

Jan 3, 2010

I'm reading a txt file into an array and then writing a new file one line at a time. The reason i'm using array is that i'm searching for a few lines that i want to find and replace.

However in my file I have some ascii characters but they aren't read well. I read something about System.Text.Encoding.Default but I don't know how to implement it in my code.

I can write a 1-d string array to file with:

Dim test() As String = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
File.WriteAllLines("C:MyFile.txt", test)

but can't see how to write a 2-d array to file.

I've tried this:

Dim test(,) As String = {{1, 2, 3, 4, 5}, {34, 22, 12, 33, 55}}
Dim myfile = File.CreateText("C:MyFile.txt")

Writing And Reading Simple Structures From Files Into An Array

Dec 23, 2010

I coded anything but I remember when using VB6 or Pascal/Delphi we used to define records/ structures with fixed length fields, then write those structures to a file knowing that they would always be the same length. You could then open a particular record within the file or simply find out how many records existed by reading the file length. From what I understand, it seems that such methods are depreciated in VB.NET and such structures are written as a stream.Does it now mean that we can define things like variable length strings and not need to worry about buffers or boundaries? Is it possible to read through such files and pick out individual records? Are there methods of determining how many records that exist in a file? What I'm looking to do is simply store multiple records of a structure in a file then retrieve them into an array so I can manipulate their order by sorting the array and search within the array. This is only a learning project so it is unlikely that the resultant array is going to be large, although if this is not generaly a good method of doing this then it might be interesting to fidn out what is. So far, I have read that they way to write a structure to a file is to "serialises" it and then write the bytes - is this correct?[code]

Reading And Writing Data To A Text File?

Sep 28, 2009

The program that I am writing has three default variables that I would like it to store and also be able to change. I have them in a text file called "settings.txt" The format of the text file is as follows:

Default Source "I:DCIM101MSDCF"
Default Destination "C:Documents and SettingsChristyMy DocumentsMy Pictures"
Default Backup Destination "D:My DocumentsBackupMy Pictures"

The field descriptions eg "Default Source" take up 30 characters, so the variable data starts with character 30. I know their has to be an easy way just to pull out the data from a particular line starting with character 30 but I can't find it.

Reading And Writing Text File Data With Arrays?

May 3, 2009

Even a primer on just reading/writing to a text file would be golden. The array confuses me further, but understanding the data is primary.

Basically, we're writing a program to manage inventory for a bar. Fields and a few lines are below. The delimiter is "||"

So... How do we read the data into the arrays? NAME would be strName(), etc for all of them.

how to write and update existing data.

UID||BREWERY||NAME||SIZE||FORMAT||SEASONAL||PRICE||CASECOST||CASEQTY||BREWERYLOCATION||BREWSTYLE||ST YLE||ABV||CLASS
A0101.12B||Abita Brewing Company||Abita Amber||12

VB - Pointers, Memory Allocation And Reading Writing Data?

Aug 15, 2009

I am using these API functions for my project where I am handling 3 unmanaged DLLs of two external apps, basically all it does is to carry data back and forth between these external applications. The project needs a lot of use of pointers, passing pointers and reading/writing to memory so both applications can talk to each other.

Declare Function HeapAlloc Lib "kernel32.dll" _
(ByVal hHeap As Long, ByVal dwFlags As Long, ByVal dwBytes As Long) As Long
Declare Function HeapCreate Lib "kernel32.dll" _

[code]....

set of windows API functions for allocating memory, reading and writing to allocated memory, and other required functions to generate required arguments to pass to these API calls?I am up to where I am allocating memory and getting pointer, but I don't know how to go about reading, writing, passing pointers, finding data lengths and reusing memory.

I'm reading a file into a buffer using the Space function. Then I'm using blowfish dll's to encrypt it, and want to write the encrypted data to a txt file. Visual Basic 2008: Reading From Textfile Into Array And Then Presented In Listbox?

Jan 7, 2012

I've got the following txt file:

[code]...

Now I want that presented in the listbox with the semicolon and it should be aligned per column so that the numbers, the names, the prices and the quantity are exactly aligned per column. If I read the file like this:

[code]...

Then the semicolon is not presented in the listbox and I don't have any alignment per column. As the names of the woods are not equally long the prices and the quantity are not aligned directly below each other...

My questions are:

1) How to add the semicolon in the listbox as seperator of the columns

2) How to align the 4 columns in the listbox (as I have an array Item(3) )

Later on I need to be able to change the quantity (last column) from 0 to > 0 (that's why I have to use an array)

Data Binding - Update The Grid Data By Reading The Array

Apr 2, 2012

Data binding should be an extremely simple thing to manage but I can't find a SIMPLE solution to the following problem.

I have two forms

Form1 contains a 4x4 MSFlexGrid (unfortunately an unmanaged COM object but I can merge cells, which I can't do with a managed Datagrid)

Form2 contains other controls which change the data in the Flexgrid.

I connect the two with a Public 4x4 array. Form2 changes the data in this array. I can update the grid data by reading the array. But how do I bind the Grid to the array so that it auto-updates - which is the whole point of binding isn't it?

Reading And Writing To 64 Bit Registry?

Sep 20, 2010

I need to read a value (and possibly adjust the value) in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall key on both 32 and 64 bit systems.I've tried accessing 'stuff' by compiling my widget as both a 32 and 64 bit app, but nothing is working. Then I came across some information indicating that this could be done from a 32 bit applicaiton using KEY_WOW64_64KEY [URL] somehow, but I can't figure it out.

1) Check the existing value of HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{ProductGUID}DisplayVersion handling both architectures.

2) If the value <> "" And <> Our Current Version Then

3) Write the Current Version to the value mentioned in step 1.

I wouldn't think this is that difficult as I've worked with registry before, but the 64 bit stuff is throwing me for a loop.It would be nice if I could compile my app to target AnyCPU then detect where its running on 32 or 64 bit. The app could then look and update in the appropriate location.I currently am set to use .NET 2.0, but could go to 4.0 if there is something in there that makes the above tasks easier.
