C# - .NET Events Special Methods (add/remove/raise/other)?
Dec 24, 2010I was wondering about the EventInfo.GetRaiseMethod and EventInfo.GetOtherMethods methods. Apparently, the CLR supports 4 kinds of methods associated with events: add, remove, raise, and "others". But events created in C# only have add and remove... I assumed that raise was used in VB, since you have to specify a RaiseEvent method when you declare a custom event, but apparently it's not the case: GetRaiseMethod always returns null.what's the point in having a raise method associated with an event if it's never used? Is there a specific MSIL instruction to raise an event using this method? (I couln't find anything like it in the opcodes)what are the "other" methods returned (well, not returned actually) by GetOtherMethods? What's are they supposed to do?are there types in the BCL that implement those special methods?

Aug 13, 2010(using VB.Net 2008) I have some modules in my program that I want to change to shared classes. This is due to subtle differences between shared classes and modules, such as how modules cannot be nested (I think). Of course, there is no such thing as a "shared class" in vb, rather just sharing every single sub, event, etc. So that means if I want to share or unshare a class, I must change the "Shared" part of the signature of every single method inside the class (of which there could be dozens or even hundreds). Is there an automated way to do this? Really think VB made a mistake by not simply declaring a class as "shared" (or just make modules completely identical to shared classes).

Change Access Of Overridden Property?
Mar 25, 2011(using VB.Net 2008) I'm inheriting from a class, and overriding one of the properties. However, the original property has public get & set, whereas I want to make it read-only in my derived class, because the property in my derived class is already determined by other factors. But it appears I can't change the access level of any overridden method. Is this possible?
The closest analogy I came up with is suppose you have a Person class, with a get/set Address property. Now suppose you inherit Child from Person, and Child will have a new Parent property. Say you want the Child's Address property to be readonly, because it will simply return the address of Parent. Even if you can override the Address property, you can't make the Set non-public. The best I can do is make it throw an exception but that's obviously misleading during design time.

Kill A Form After FormClosing Event Is Overridden To Hide Rather Than Close?
Apr 12, 2010I have a simple Windows Form that hosts property controls at runtime. When the user clicks Close [X] I want to keep the window and its contents alive rather than killing it by handling the FormClosing event, canceling the event and simply hiding the form.
That's fine but at close of the application I need to actually close the window. I implemented the below but it feels kludgey. Is there a simpler, more clever way to handle this situation? (The form's controller calls KillForm explicitly after it receives a closing event from the main window.)[code]...

Mar 29, 2010I am not sure how clear my question is by the title, but I am trying to make Class methods instead of Instance methods in Visual Basic that way I don't have to waste memory and code creating temporary objects to execute methods that don't need instance variables.
I am not sure if you can do that in VB but I know you can in Objective-C by using either a "+" or "-" sign in front of the method declaration. And in C++ (at least I think, I can't remember) you put the static keyword or const keyword in front of the function.How would I do this in VB if it is possible? Or should I just make a separate set of functions that are not members of a class?

C# - Using Async Methods Asp.net?
Jul 15, 2010I have two methods on the page. One AddMessageToInboxOutbox(params[]) and other one SendNewMessageMail(params[]).
Once user sends an message to other other first message is added to DB and then sent to recipient's email. Sometimes SMTP is heavy loaded and it takes up to 5 seconds to get answer from it. I want to enclose SendNewMessageMail(params[]) with async call using other thread or something. I have never done that.
How do i perform this action right in ASP.NET?

Feb 27, 2012I created a couple of extended methods in a VB.NET module. I put them inside a Class, built it and got the DLL. From another program I made a reference to that DLL and imported it using Imports as well.The extended methods appear in IntelliSense and it works but a warning appears in the Error console saying,Could not resolve this reference. Could not locate the assembly "nK0deExtendedMethods". Check to make sure the assembly exists on disk. why this error occurs even though I have referenced the DLL?
This is the Class where I've put my module with the extended method.

And I'm having another doubt. In the Imports statement, I have to mention the DLL's name along with the Namespace name. Like this,
